As noted in the comments you CAN use rule based labeling to build your complex labels. It will behave a bit differently so try it out and choose the method you find the most suitable for your work.
Hi , I’m just figuring out two things which I couldn’t find , if you can help me that 1. After importing the excel sheet points with xy coordinates , few of them I imported without coordinates now I just want to enter the xy coordinates using qgis but seems it does have option for that. 2. I just want to change line color based on the expression status in the field e.g “completed “ status to line color to green something line that.
Hi Klas Karlsson, my comment is not about this particular video, it is just a way to say a big thanks (since there are only the comments to pass a msg on youtube). so as I said an amplified big thanks to you. en fact, u were in a big way a great help for me in my master's degree research. thanks to you I 've passed it with congratulations from the jury. anyways and as they say help others to achieve their dreams and you will achieve yours. keep up the Great work ur doing and may you achieve the best things your dreaming of.
Thank you Klas, I have adopted symbology but having issue as most of these labels mixed together when we zoom in or out. I need to get rid of this issue. Please try to make video on that. It should reduce size according to the zooming strength. Is it possible? So that they are equally distributed & spaced for printing of maps.
Is there an option to remove duplicate polygon labels in QGIS? I would like to know if there is an option in QGIS labeling engine which would remove all the duplicate labels. My polygon layer contains a few features with same name. Thank Klas.
I know this video is from a while ago, but has this feature (masking) been broken in QGIS? I can't for the life of me get a mask to work like it does for your box with the text. I try to do it for contour lines (the index contour elevation), I tried to mimic what you did in this video. Nothing works. I can select the source and the line to mask, and it stays checked, but nothing happens, The text just sits on top of the line and doesn't mask it. Any thoughts? I was using 3.32 and now 3.34 and it doesn't work in either. I must be missing something.
@@ДмитрийК-б9е Yes, using labels based on the rule it is possible to achieve the same result. But it was interesting to see how to use the markers for that.
Thanks for your videos. I've a question, how to put label inside polygon box in the legend but at the same time we still have the legend label as a normal label? I have a country map with same color in certain region. Then I put the label for each feature. In the legend part, each same color of polygon legend has their label in the right. I want also a label / ID inside the polygon legend instead of different sytle or color.
Hi Klas, I’ve achieved this with your help, but now, I’m trying to do the same using rule-based labels. I kinda get the same result but I couldn’t set the mask for the top text, I’ve tried the same instructions of this video but I think the main problem is the symbol layer is not a rectangle but a point. Can you help me?
Hello Klas First: thank you for sharing your knowledge. I have a question about that new feature - mask labels. As I understand, it works only with label and object from the same layer? I cannot mask object froma layer A by label from layer B, or I just dont know how to do it, Is it possible?
The mask is create (but not shown) in the label settings. It is then applied in ANY layer style settings. It will affect any part of any layer style where it is applied.
I was trying it for a few days with no effect. It looks like some kind of bug. When you open layer properties (by right click on layers panel), and in Mask section select symbol layers and mask, it doesn't work. When you re open properties, you can see, that checked boxes are unchecked. But when you do that in Layer Styling panel, it works!
Get the airports.dat file from github.com/jpatokal/openflights/tree/master/data and load it into QGIS using "delimeted text". Select appropriate columns as X and Y with CRS EPSG:4326

I love to watch your films and learn from them - QGIS rules! Great job, thanks for sharing this idea! 🙂

Nice one Klas, your demonstrations are fantastic. Are you think of doing more demonstrations with rasters, interpolations or pyqgis?
Hi master, did u tryed '\
' instead '
'?
Backslash acts as an escape character, so you need to use '\\N' for IATA inside if statement instead of '\N'.
I completely forgot that... thanks.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and tricks!

Is there a rule based labelling system to enable different labels imported into the same layer to have different coloured backgrounds/fonts etc
No. Only this way with markers.
Hi Klas, thanks for your reply. I hope you don't mind but I've dropped you an email with a query regarding my initial comment. Keep up the good work!
I.e. you can't style a single label in different ways (more than one style). Different features in a layer CAN have differently styled labels.
@@KlasKarlsson With the rule-based labels you can do exactly the same styling. Maybe even better.

..but I wanted to fulfill the kriging method using Qgis
