  • My plan for July and August is that I'd do a 30km long run every weekend, I have been slowly building up to it all this year. First time I ran 30k, it felt pretty good and I was optimistic that I'd be able to do the same distance again the following weekends. Unfortunately the weekend after that (last weekend), my hips were pretty sore, related I think to my IT band issues; I did the distance but there was some walking.
This weekend, Iona and I went hillwalking and did a couple of Munro's on the Saturday, so my long run was on Sunday. I really wasn't sure what impact the day before's walk would have.
I could feel within the first few km's that my legs were a bit tired, but the first half felt pretty good. I was light on my feet in the trail section and my energy levels were fine.
Unfortunately when I got to about the 16km mark I could feel my right knee starting to hurt, the exact same place I usually get on my right knee, caused by my IT Band Syndrome.
I managed to make it home, but it was a bit of a hobble on the last km.
I've got to look on the bright side, the combined mileage for the weekend was still 32km. And my overall trend is still going in the right direction.
So I just have to hope that a I can do better next weekend!. I've got a shorter run planned as usually mid-week, so let's see how that is.

Thanks! It's actually been really good to look back at them and see how much I have actually progressed!
I've just ordered some knee supports, let's see if that helps.

Ive had IT band issues as well. It sucks. I had to take time off then after I healed, use a foam roller every day. That seemed to help a lot. Haven't had any issues since. Have you tried that?

Yeah, I foam roll. It's been niggling me for a couple of months, but I'd been able to increase the mileage before it kicked in. But the last couple of weeks have been a setback. I'll see how it is after a week off.
Did you do any other activities when off running? I'm wondering whether to cycle on at the weekend instead of my long run.
I'm also hoping my strength sessions can still be done.

@@mcmillanstu Yes I cycled a lot with no adverse affects. I also iced the area where the tendon adjoins to the side of the knee.
