- 029 - Synthesis and Decomposition Reactions
Atoms or molecules combine to form a new compound in a synthesis reaction. Examples include the addition of oxygen to magnesium metal to create magnesium oxide and the addition of carbon dioxide to water to crete carbonic acid. A combine breaks down into new atoms or molecules in a decomposition reaction. Examples include the break down of sodium azide in a airbag or the break down of hydrogen peroxide in your cells. Decomposition reactions will often release heat as bonds are broken and new bonds are formed.

thank youu I know this is from like 7 years ago but that helped me especially because my teacher can't teach me since we're in quarantine :(
7 years ago no one was quarantined, are you from the future?
@Reyansh Giovanni you’re right, no one gives a shit.
@@potixz3682 The video was made 7 years ago...
I watched this for my exam tomorrow and you answered all my questions. Thanks so much
One of my favourite videos of yours!
extremely helpful! many of your videos are, thank you!!
you explain to me about that topic really nice
your the best for explaining things keep it up
This was really helpful. Thank you!

Thank u your channel has really shelled me learn a lot of chemistry and because of h I got A+ in school
God bless this man
Much help very thanks!
Hi,could you please make some videos related to Organic Chemistry? Thanks :)
Great video!
AWESOME!!!!!!!
This helped me soo much, thank you
Please come teach at my University!!!
Love you video. That's an opposite tech of synthesis.
thanks i love your videos!!
Thank you!
I love you so much. You are seriously just awesome
please make video explaining about Helmholtz double layer sir.
Thanks for information
How has this only been watched 10,000 times
thank you very useful vid~
Couldnt have learnt it better :D
Hey anythin on alpha and beta receptors?
I don't understand where the Coefficient comes from. Like in Magnesium and Oxygen, their equation is 2Mg + O2 = 2MgO . Where did the Magnesium's coefficient come from? :(
+Astereia Maoui oh dude i've been wondering that as well is it from the positive and negative charges maybe? can someone who knows plz answer :D
in the best way i can possibly describe, that coefficient is based upon how many of a certain thing you have in your equation.
so for instance, let's look at your example. the base equation given to you by most chemistry classes would probably be Mg + O2 = MgO and it would then ask you to balance the equation. now, since oxygen is a sneaky seven it has a 2 at the end of it when it stands alone. in our equation it DOES stand alone, so that's how we get Mg + O2. now, when it combines with magnesium, they both have a charge of 2. in magnesium's case, it's a 2+ charge, in oxygen's a 2- charge. they both cancel out and you therefore get MgO as the product.
however, stating Mg + O2 = MgO is incorrect because on the left you have TWO oxygens, but on the right, you have one. to make the equation "balanced" you need to make sure there are two oxygens on both sides. so, to do that, you place a 2 in front of the MgO which makes both magnesium and the oxygen have a 2. thus, we alos need to place a 2 in front of the magnesium on the left which gives us the overall equation 2Mg + O2 = 2MgO.
just now realizing this is from 1 year ago, so this might have been unnecessary. gg.
Jeremy Genz You actually saved my grade thanks 😭
coefficient is how many molecules are there in a compound.. to balance the equation,as stated in the law of conservatiob of mass, the no. of atoms in the reactant side will be the same with the product side.. so as you count having a coefficient of 2in Mg (Coefficient 2 will be multiply to its subscripts which is 1) makes them balance with the product side which also has 2atoms of Mg.
Video is superb, I doubt what you commented about the reactivity of nitrogen. Isn't it Sodium is more reactive.
He just accidentally said the wrong one. He meant to say sodium instead of nitrogen.
prety helpful u saved ma chemistry grades😇
How much Hydrogen Peroxide and how much yeast? Thank you

Got full mark because of you ;)
He carries my grades
Hello, I've watched a lot of khan academy and one thing I've noticed is that in many areas there isn't a lot of depth. Why don't you partner up with khan academy to help provide them with content while at the same time building your viewers?
this guy has a soda stream at home, nearly at one mil subs and has monetisation
I fucking love this man Ahhhh
Grea vide
yooo my chem teacher is also named Mr.Anderson
Iam educated now xD!!
you explain to me about that topic really nice
