- It’s no secret that I love ground covers. Yes, 🖐️ favorites… because I can’t pick just one… and honestly, picking just 5 was hard 😂🤣. Are your favorites on this list? What did I leave off!?
#groundcover #gardentips #gardeninspiration #gardenfavorites #perennialgarden - Хобби
We have so many beautiful native groundcovers ferns, phlox, wild ginger, Virginia bluebells, tiarella, wintergreen. Native plants support local habitat. I think you would love them.
Thanks for the suggestion
Ajuga is invasive and will take over quick. Periwinkle is another evergreen cover thats invasive. Lamium is great but watch out the stinging nettles that can be similar but it sure hurts when it touches skin. Creeping phlox is pretty in spring only when it blooms and then its just green. Some dont know that its just a small window of color.
So funny how regions are different - here periwinkle is very invasive and ajuga is easy to contain.
Plants / Flowers and the model they all beautiful.
Thank you so much for this sweet compliment 😍
I didn’t know dianthus could be used as a ground cover! I’m very excited, will need to grab a few tomorrow
😍😍😍 yes!! When it’s happy it spreads like a ground cover and can also be divided/replanted around the garden
Ajuga is trying to take over my beds!
Awww! I’m sorry; the ajuga I’ve planted does great in my region- slow spreader
Yep its invasive as hell! I work in a greenhouse and i always give the warning on things what can happen.
dude ajugas awesome
I love ajuga!
I'm in a cold zone 4B/5A climate. Ajuga spreads so slowly in my gardens...one variety took five years to double in size. Lamium is considered an invasive by many people because it can, and does, grow just about anywhere. Periwinkle can be tedious to remove once established, and can spread quickly. No plant is perfect, but native plants at least belong where they grew before we built our communities, so they're adapted to the climate and ecology of the area....
You have no idea how happy I am to have come across your short video!! I am currently looking for ground coverage plants, now I have a better understanding of which ones to choose. Please post more valuable info, and any suggestions for varieties!! Thanks ☺️
❤️😍❤️ you have no idea how happy this comment made me! Deal; will do in the next few weeks
@@gardensandchickens thank you… I subscribed to your channel, so I’m really looking forward for your next video. 🤩
Creeping phlox is only native to the Appalachian region make prairie phlox is a good alternative to people in the south central and central usa
Thank you for the tip!
@@gardensandchickens no problem!
I accidentally bought creeping phlox for my Texas garden 😩
I use native geraniums or cranesbill as a groundcover. Pink blooms from spring to fall.
Taking notes. Ground cover. Interesting😊
😍❤️
I would choose sweet woodruff over ajuga . It is less aggressive and very easy to pull
I’ve been wonderful how sweet woodruff does! The photos in bloom look incredible 😍
Creeping jenny is nice for shady areas too. looks great with any dark foliage plant. Creeping jenny and beautiful dark ajuga is stunning
yes! I do love Creeping Jenny... it's a fast spreader
It's an invasive plant. Keep it in pots only.
@@rebeccacrow9616 it’s not invasive here 🤷🏻♀️
@@rebeccacrow9616 maybe in your area . I am in chatham
new york our zone just recently
changed to 6 i believe
It is listed in the Invasive Plant Atlas of the USA. @Soviless99
Beautiful Like you, Like These Little purple and pink ones💓
Thank you for Like, you Are Indeed Beautiful Lady I Ever see
Are any of these safe for cats?
I have cats that are indoor/outdoor- they’re not like dogs; they don’t eat things that are toxic. Not saying dogs are dumb but… 🤪
@@gardensandchickens I'm new to being a cat mom but my girl is a little special and I don't know if I can trust her...
@@RhiSoundsLikeRye I get it. ❤️
Lamium is very invasive
I think it depends on the variety? This ghost variety has grown very controlled for me in my garden and region.
@@gardensandchickensthat's the problem with plants. Invasive plants largely consist of NON-NATIVE plants. Yet you have the potential reach across the globe. As a garden channel you can't just recommend plants. You have to recommend plants for a certain area, hardness zone, country, state. If that limits your audience to where you live, then that's for the greater good.
RUclips has been recommending me with people who advise planting certain plants that are "better" but in the comment sections I always see an, "actually that would be really bad (for where I live)." You gotta specify.
Foxtails are native to somewhere, butterfly bush is native to somewhere, tumble weeds are native to somewhere, and in their native regions none of them are a problem. The problem arises when we plant non-native plants that have a chance of becoming invasive. You should probably start specifying because weeds are a lot of the time invasive plants.
@@jewels3400 hi 👋 thanks for the feedback… and I’ll take that into consideration. To be fair; I only have experience with gardening in my zone and it’s why I share my zone/location in almost every video. I can’t give advice for the entire world of gardening. Have a blessed day
Thrift and purple dead nettle are good if you're in Ireland or the uk
Dead nettle seems to do well here in Atlanta too! Thrift I’m worried and haven’t tried because I have a feeling it will absolutely HATE clay soil
Ajuga is known as a Zip code traveler where I live.
🤣🤣🤣 that’s quiet the nick name
Hahaha. Honey badger
Are these all natives? I hope you're not planting exotic weeds
🤣 these are not natives- but also not exotic weeds?
@@gardensandchickens I have a yard full of adjuga and I am trying to switch to natives. So now the a juga is a problem. Please please find native groundcover. Please don't plant exotics. Please encourage other people to plant native plants it will be much better for your local environment and creatures.
@@johnraffensperger sorry that’s been your experience- I haven’t experienced the same - in my garden it’s very easy to control and maintain the spread
Salam...❤❤❤
❤️❤️❤️
Don’t plant lamium.
Why?
@@gardensandchickens Lamium is highly invasive in most areas of the country. While it may work for you (for now), for most people it will spread and become very difficult to remove. Too bad, it’s a beautiful plant-like many garden thugs. The only place to plant lamium is a pot.
