We're so excited! We're so excited!
Missing your favorite pals from Bayside High? It's alright, 'cause you're SAVED BY THE BELL! Conduct your own class reunion with this Max-ed out collection of the iconic 90s Saturday morning sitcom. The adventures of Zack and his friends - Kelly, Slater, Jessie, Lisa, and Screech - were a cultural touchstone for a generation of teens. Now, you can relive the laughter, lessons, and love (Zack + Kelly 4EVER) all over again. From JFK Junior High to Cal U, Miss Bliss to Mr. Belding, Malibu Sands to Hawaii, and dance contests to "dearly beloved!"
With 118 episodes from all three series - Good Morning, Miss Bliss, Saved By The Bell & Saved By The Bell: The College Years, plus both movies and a locker full of special features, this Zack Morris megaset is a must-have for fans!
A Note About Saved By The Bell: The Junior High Years (1988-89): These episodes were originally aired under the title Good Morning, Miss Bliss starring Hayley Mills in the title role. Set in John F. Kennedy Junior High in Indianapolis, Miss Bliss features Zack, Screech, Lisa, and Mr. Belding in its cast of characters. Although no explanation is given for how or why the four simultaneously transplanted from Indiana to California, these thirteen Miss Bliss episodes were repackaged as part of Saved By The Bell’s run in syndication.
A Note About The Episode Order For Saved By The Bell (1989-1993): Like many television series, the order in which Saved By The Bell’s episodes were produced does not necessarily reflect the order in which they were aired. Consequently, some episodes aired noticeably out of sequence in terms of depicting the ages and shifting relationships between the characters. This is particularly pronounced in Season Three, when Saved By The Bell began airing two episodes a week - usually a school-based episode followed by an “adventure” episode which saw the gang journey beyond the halls of Bayside. In spite of these anomalies, we have attempted to present the episodes in airing order with the notable exception of the “Malibu Sands” story arc, which is presented in sequence here at the end of Season Three, in order to best serve the viewing experience for fans. Executive Producer Peter Engel was consulted on this matter, and he approved our decision to present the episodes in this manner.

Dave Gordon if she did actual drugs then yes this would be fairly sad scene. But she took caffeine pills which wouldn’t be any more worse than if a modern kid drank a can of Red Bull. Yet somehow it affected her so severely that we, the viewers have to believe it’s serious. The 90s was a funny time for tv where they couldn’t touch on real teenage issues like sex, teenage pregnancy, and drugs. The writers of the show had to use something so asinine and unbelievable that yes it ends up being funny.
The drunk driving episode and the later episode about drugs that included some small role characters doing pot ended up a little better of a PSA.

I hate that the network changed this from speed to caffeine pills. I watch this episode everytime believing it’s speed and it really changes the tone dramatically. How hooked Jessie got, how concerned and serious Slater was, how it wrecked her future as the lead singer and also Kelly and Lisa’s chances as well, and how angry Zack got at the notion that his childhood best friend was addicted to drugs. If you keep in mind that this was originally written as speed, then the line everyone laughs at “I’m so excited! I’m so excited! I’m so…I’m so scared!” becomes much sadder.

I think it’s because the way they went about it, considering there are worse things out there. But because their target audience was so young, they couldn’t say she was hooked on amphetamines or anything.

Originally Jessie’s character was supposed to be hooked on speed, which definitely would have made this scene much less funny.

Just because I myself am not an actress, it doesn’t take one to know that the acting on this show is awful.
You don’t have to be a chef to know when you’re eating a shitty meal, and you don’t have to be a phlebotomist to know when they’re missing your vein.
I loved this show and Full House as a kid, but the acting is definitely mediocre at best.
Also, I’m not a hater. My last comment didn’t state anything hateful. I was stating an opinion based on why the general public finds this scene funny.

Just talking about a serious topic is not enough. If you fail at talking about something serious, you _will_ get mocked by others.
They wanted to talk about Speed, which was, indeed, a very big problem in the 90's amoung younger people like Jessie. The network didn't want to tackle that, so instead of discarding the script they made them change it into caffeine. It's the same as if Bambi's dad told him "your mom got shot by humans and was very injured, but now she's at the hospital and has to stay there for a while". You can't take the edge of a knife and expect for it to slices your tomatoes.
I am glad that you understand the problem of drug use, but you can't tell people that this is not a joke because it is. And we should never allow that for people to do this sort of things half-assedly and get away with it.
It's an insult for the adicted people, is an insult for the ones who loved them and is an insult for the children they supposedly "tried to educate" by making something so ridiculous.
"Jessie slept it off, so it can't be _that_ bad, can it?"

Of all the episodes of Saved By The Bell I liked the the one where Jessie was hooked on the uppers given to her when she suffers a nervous breakdown. That episode is truly emotional and they all acted great especially towards the end of the of the show. Reminds me of the episode where Carlton Banks on The Fresh Prince of Bel-air takes pills to stay up during finals week. Another great episode.

This episode had all the feels back then and even today. The way Zach held Jessie and laid his head on her shoulder 😭😭 Reassuring her everything would be ok. HE is one of the most understanding and sincerest friends anyone dealing with addiction could ever have.

One of the show's Executive Producers was so upset with the change from Methamphetamine stimulants (speed) to Caffeine Pills that he said she might as well be "sniffing coffee grounds." Once you see this scene, knowing it was supposed to be Methamphetamines (Not Caffeine Pills), it's not as funny as before.

This was why TV in the 1990s was so awesome. It addressed the issue of teenage stress and addiction to stimulants and it got to our level and still retained the humor in the show.

This scene now is so relatable since I came back from my last tour of Iraq and got hooked on pain pills.. I rode that train for 10 years for God's sake... It was horrible but I survived it just like war. I'm proud of going thru it bc it and war have made the strongest and smartest a human can be in this life.. So yea it was all worth it to me!!🙌

I feel like this is one of the only scenes where their acting skills where at its peak performance for this particular series, the emotion and compassion is something you would see in a movie, yes the caffeine pills scenario is kinda ridiculous but originally they where going to have her take crack but due to possible viewer backlash and controversy they decided to have her addicted to caffeine pills instead.

I think the caffeine pills are supposed to be a metaphor for meds meant for ADHD that are taken illegally by students. I have ADD and it’s why it’s so hard to get meds. They have to make sure you’re not selling them.

The sleeves of Zack's suit jacket being rolled up was one of those trends that had carried over from the 80's. During the time that Miami Vice was popular, it was considered "cool" for guys to roll up their sleeves like Sonny Crockett.
