Finally, no more mobs spawning near my house.
HAHSHSHHSHS lmao
Stupid spiders
uh oh looks like the flame went out
Because there is no house
Everybody's gangsta till ya hear "tsssss" sound
It's time now to get pitchforks and storm Frankenstein's castle.
Mister Squalis did i miss the raid?
Mister Squalis FOR SKYRIM
The white house
THE FIEND MUST BE FOUND!
This is great for if you have socks that are torn, have no elasticity that way it doesn't go to landfill. If you really wanna ward off Wolves though, make sure to use stinky socks for a Bonus +5 Attack as Canines have a much greater sense of smell. Also, if you make 3, you can juggle them for +10 Charisma.
Love the shirt by the way.
I liked your comment better than I liked the video! 😆😀🤣
Nice Medieval song there buddy. Thanks for your great lesson, I will be able to survive in the medieval times.
Him: "it will stay lit for as long as you sprayed it for"
Me: * DUNKS WHOLE THING IN RUBBING ALCOHOL * "the forever flame"
Thus the age of fire came to be...
@@jameshanks1196 with light came dark
Soak it in alcohol overnight
My fist thought as well !
I think flaming drops may be painful and dangerous...
@@kennethalbert4653 Youd want to hold any torch at a bit of a forward angle anyway, just to avoid debri
2015 was the best year of my life. It's nice to know a stranger was having fun with torches whilst I was doing my thing. (RIP MXE, the greatest arylcyclohexamine to ever exist)
I did it with Alc it was awesome, then I did one with lighter fluid, it worked the same, also, instead of thin wire, used a metal clothes hanger that I bent tightly around the cloth, which worked flawlessly.
The hanger tip is genius
We used to make these riding our bikes thru the bush while young. It was so dark, we needed something. We used old t-shirts but could never get them to last. The wire wrapped around the outside is key
Good to have a bucket of water nearby, that put it out!
It's an oil fire it would explode /:
Yeah im making torch in house i wash with a water he exsplode
Bury it in sand, etc! No oxygen, no fire!
@@gabecarter2364 where is the oil coming from, he used alcohol?
You could also put some oil like Vaseline, Kerosene, Olive Oil, Paraffin Oil to keep it going longer as Alcohol burns off pretty quick.
Thank you Bro :) i will use this in my next video :)
Classic Householdhacker-style narration. I like it.
Now I can finally make torches for a castle that I am making
They must’ve had lots of mid evil cotton socks lol
8 years later very helpful! Thanks mate
Great video ! First one of yours Ive seen. I love the difficulty animation I hope you have it for all your DIY projects 😆
Seriously thou. Easy to follow. You didnt go on and on about things(like im doing) cheap material, safty warning, and it came out sweet ! And all under 4 mins ! Nice dude I think Ill sub
✌
Most angry ludite's demanded you to make a more abstract torch for survival skill demands. But this is a perfect example of how to remember basics. It's incredibly effective but things we all forget about. Saved me in a pinch.
I'm going camping with my buddies this week. This'll be perfect.
I made them as a kid. I found that coils of rope (hemp) work really well.
They sure knew how to light their way AND stay warm.
would a bamboo stick work?
A bamboo stick will work and i am using hanging wire from home depot
Nice shirt I love Asking Alexandra.
Great video Austin - clear and straight to the point :)
when I saw you holding it at night It reminded me of the video for throne by bring me the horizon.
Light Yagami yo so I’m not the only one who thought this thank god
I used to try and make these growing up and I could not figure out how to not just have the burning shit fall off. It never made sense to me lol. Nice video
I had some juggling torches made ... similar idea. The person (Amazing magician and side show artist) who made them for me also gave me a metal tool box that was a little longer then the torches. Essentially he said after you are done juggling the torches collect them together drop them into the box and close the lid.
Juggling is gay
That was very interesting, but i have some questions. How long will it actually burn? You said you used, "a lot," of alcohol, so it would burn a long time, but then implied it would only burn about five minutes.
Medieval would not have had cotton. What would they have used? Wool? Linen? Something else?
You say you can not put it out but that it must burn out. What if you put it under some kind of small container, like a small bowl or soda can? Or, alternatively, dunk it in water? Surely those would put it out.
Don't put alcohol fores in water
Use sand
@@queeny5613 so I made a torch recently and i used a thick and long piece of wood and i wrapped old clothes around it and secured with steel wire then i soaked it in some diesel fuel. Burnt for 1 hour easily and then i put it out very quickly by submerging it in a puddle. The diesel fuel helped it burn for that long if i would have used gasoline it would go out in 10-15 minutes.
Those are same amazing socks
Bro you should stop those red beeps behind you at night, its kinda frightening
Keep your torches lit , For the night is dark and full of terror.
Can you make a staff for flame spinning with it?
good for exploring caves like they used to in olden times
I love his smug face, you can tell he loves doing this! Also, at 2:28 you can see a possum in the backround
Wait a Minute... There werent 100% cotton socks in medieval ages tho
How much is the maximum burn time?
Thanks! I needed to make one to get rid of some insects from a wall on my balcony. Let's hope it works.
gonna be using this on my next hike
Going to be very useful for all the people becoming homeless in the pandemic
So what kind of alcohol did u use like rubbing alcohol or liquor
Needed this for a tiktok . Preciate it boss
will wool socks work too
as a fire juggler, i strongly recommend using parrafin oil/lamp oil instead of alcohol, since it's easier to put out and doesn't fume as easily as alcohol does
I just use gasoline even for my fireknife
Juggling is gay
@@jasonredepenning yeah, especially compared to filming your screen
I love that you are wearing a Asking Alexandria shirt cause I am the new vocalist for a band called “TITVN” and we are metalcore and I am looking for a way to make a torch for our debut music video 😂
Um. So I just found your videos and I love them. Where have you gone?
I can now get rid of my mom's hoarded old clothing in style. Just did this with a blouse and it was lit for 15 minutes.
Awesome thanks for teaching an old dog an even older trick. LOL
The original flashlight
My socks keep dripping bruh
You might be able to put the 🔥 out by placing a metal can over the sock as long as the can goes a little below the flame. Try it.
you just randomly look up something of a channel 8 yrs ago... that doesnt post anymore. feels like looking at the dead
that's really cool dude!
Chicks dig this guy!
I thought my old socks were useless
Does anyone know if the same socks can be reused when the fire goes out?
Walter West, you can reuse the socks, the fire will eventually burn the sock, If you put it out and reapply the alcohol before it burns out on its own you will be able to make the sock last for many uses. Basically try to keep it saturated.
Awesome. Thanks.
I think he meant can you wear them again!
Cant you put it out in a bucket of water ?? or sand??
Is it just regular alcohol ?
where do you get alcohol like that?
Thanx, need to clean out my sock drawer. To put it out, stick the torch in a likely sized can. The lack of oxygen will put it out.
Good idea kid👍🏻
what type of alcohol can i use
Thank you, I know you said you wouldn't be able to put it out in 5 or 6 minutes. I wish you told us how long it would last. I will find out for myself, and again thank you
Basically just spray it more with alcohol
In Boy Scouts in the 1960s we used Kerosine, and we had metal buckets of sand with a hole down the middle. The you could stick the flame in at any time.
That's weblow levels
Nice job!
Wow that's official
you can put it out with a fire blanket
This is pure golden SHIT
I love Asking Alexandria too
Can u substitute the alcohol with like gasoline or smth
Thank u so much 😍😍😍 this would be a great help to my costume Attire
Thanks! Very helpful! And I'm going to have to check out Asking Alexandria. I'm always looking for new rock/metal.
There newer stuff is more hard rock. There older stuff is Metalcore with Techno aka Electronicore or Crabcore.
like this, it feels 2007
instructions clear: made torch
Where do you get 100% cotton socks? All I can find are socks that are fire retardant. Also, How far can you see with it lit? Please have a friend walk away until you can't see them and measure it.
I use old T-shirts myself. Just cut them into strips and tie them on. As for the range, it depends on allot of things. Wind, fuel, size of the flame, terrain, and what you're looking at. For example you can see reflective objects farther than non reflective objects. But on average I get 10-15 yards of good light.
This is not how to make a medieval torch. This is a modern day torch
What did you spray on it I cant find any alcohol that's 91%
If you're in the UK you may not be able to buy it
@@curranh.8328 I live in the states
91% alcohol is just 9% water, assuming I'm not misinformed. The higher % the better, just get you some rubbing alcohol and it should still work
Oh and he probably spritzed it on so that it was light enough to evaporate at the right pace and not absorb as deep rather than just stay wet. You could probably also just douse a part of it and then rub the cloth together, that'd help it evaporate. Just wash your hands and all that
Paraffin or kerosene should work
But then my socks will burn
How long does it burn? Think pine resin would make it burn longer
How long do they burn?
If I swing it really hard will alcohol and fire drip off of it?
That could be a pro and a con
I wonder of lamp oil also will do it?
I have a homemade torch made out of tissue, stick and long grass
What kind of alcohol should we use?
roughly how long will this burn for if you let it burn itself out, I had planned on taking a few of them with me on my next Bushcraft outing
I like your tshirts!
Can I use this in fire dancing
would any flammable liquid work?
also how do u get the alcohol?
very informative thanks
Nice job young man
"It's not going to go out for anything" is not being a responsible instructor. Instruct people to have a pail of water nearby during use or being sure there is no dry vegetation like dead leaves, vegetation, or sticks, to throw it on bare ground and smother it with gravel and soil until out.
I'd advise vegetable oil or paraffin. Also let it soak for a little bit before using it. A half hour at least, an hour ideally. This way, you'll burn the fuel, not the cloth.
how long can such touch light up? can it stay for an hour?
love this channel!😀I'm subscribing
So we don’t soak it just spray it?
Cool, thanks. But is that how it was done before in the old ages? Just without the spray bottle, spirits wine?
Old ages used strips of cloth and oil.
I bet medieval people had tons of socks and 99% alcohol laying around.. what a joke. Love the torch though.
This guy has been gone for 7 years 47 goddamn years and there's only a couple of modern like comment here
will any of it fall down to your hand
Fire.
my idea was to do the same thing but instead of alcohol use gasoline
Gasoline isn't really something to mess around with. It can be very dangerous, I wouldn't use it. Nice idea though.
Try camping fluid instead.
I can imagine gasoline being a more expensive option maybe more docks and candle wax and then a cheap but long lasting fuel or foray to put on it
So I just came here because I had a fucked up scenario of a bear attacking me so o thought I’d scare it off with a torch that’s how I got here 🤣🙃
Awesome
