  • We continue the epic adventure, exploring places where no sailing channel has gone before. We stray far off the tourist track on a solo sail and dive into the unbelievable & amazing local sailing culture!
    This episode is packed with sailing action and amazing adventures! We make an expedition to a mysterious island (Isla Kent also known as Isla Alien) to investigate rumors of UFO sightings, aliens, & World War 2 gold, sail gaff rigged wooden boats and witness old school wooden boatbuilding, and go singlehanded sailing up the coast of Chiloe along with a wood sailboat rally to experience the real Chilean island culture and the way the islands were accessed in the age of sail, as we make our way from Cape Horn and Patagonia to the islands of French Polynesia in the South Pacific under sail.

    So nice you got to go to Chiloe and Castro. We had guests last night stay with us who were in Castro yesterday. Love the Curranto. Good seafood for sure. Great to see you all get to visit all those hard to get to places and meet the true beauty of Chile .... the people. With the ocean and the Andes it really makes Chile the place to live. Thanks for the video. Jim in Chile.

    Coffee with Sweet Ruca has never been better. The video format of telling a story by showing the story is amazing. Kate is crushing the editing. Had to laugh at the reference to "knuckleheads". That was everyday language in my retired profession. That part of the world is amazingly beautiful. Absolutely the best sailing channel on RUclips. Keep having fun and stay safe. Bill

    I'm so happy I found these sailing videos in Chilean Patagonia. I follow a few sailing youtube channels and had always told them to come down here. I live in Puerto Varas, about 13 miles north of Puerto Montt and worked for 8 years in a company with operations in the Aysén Patagonian region. I've sailed to Laguna San Rafael four times and driven the Carretera Austral all the way from Puerto Montt down to Villa O'Higgings and Caleta Tortel several times, too. The Chilean Patagonia is a wonder from land and sea that needs to be shown. I thank you both for doing so. I was specially touched by your stay in Chiloe where one of my grandmothers was from; I have several ancestors buried there, specifically in Isla Lemuy (just south of Castro), and many relatives all around (my grandmother had 12 siblings). I wish you a safe trip to the other side of the World. I hope you can visit Easter Island, another incredible part of Chile. Cheers.

      Wow! Thanks for sharing such an amazing story. We love to hear about this. We were able to spend one day in Puerto Varas when Kate's mom visited. A beautiful city as well. Patagonia has SO much to offer. It is very fortunate that we get to share it with everyone.

    Great video, loving the cameos with Roxy. We are still in Brazil, adoring the multiculturalism this country has to offer, probably headed to the Caribbean or back to Mindelo, because my Portuguese is getting better. We have not decided which direction we will sail. It is a La Nina year, meaning many strong hurricanes in the Caribbean, being something I do not want to deal with..

      @SailingSweetRuca  Месяц назад +1

      Bom dia! We love hearing this! If you have time, take a road trip and explore the interior of Brazil, like you said, the multiculturalism there is amazing! So much to see, so little time! Make sure you practice your Brazillian vs Portugese accents :-)

    • @rainfinger
      @rainfinger Месяц назад

      @@SailingSweetRuca You are right, getting my ear accustomed to the Brazilian accent has taken some time, but I am getting there. One thing to note is we got a CPF online before arriving in Brazil and this has helped, because some stores require a CPF for using a credit card to make purchases. Just search on Google for an online vendor, getting it delivered electronically in about two weeks.

      Let the floppy things out until they flap, pull them back in until they don’t. Don’t be a human cleat, if the boat is tipping ease the sheet. Steer with your sails, use the rudder as a trim tab. Don’t hit rocks and docks. Get a big anchor. There ya go, all the insider secrets 😉
