- David Beckham is one of the most influential athletes in sports history. He played for iconic clubs like Manchester United and Real Madrid, and he shocked the world when he joined the LA Galaxy of Major League Soccer in 2007. But here’s the part you probably didn’t know: Despite taking a 70% pay cut in salary, Beckham’s MLS contract included two unique stipulations that ended up earning him more than $500 million.

Thank you to Sorare for sponsoring this video!
Backed by superstar athletes like Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé, Rudy Gobert, Aaron Judge, and Serena Williams, Sorare has built blockchain technology that allows fans to collect officially licensed NFT-backed player cards.

Nice video, just so you know the six managers you shown in the video are previous managers of Barcelona
The editor deserves a raise 🔥🔥
He killed it 🔥
Great vid
I'd disagree. There were some glaring errors, e.g. showing UEFA Super Cup instead of the English Super Cup (The FA Community Shield), 6 Barça managers instead of Real Madrid manager, etc.
Great work on this video! Beckham's signing furthered a sort of 'retirement league' stigma surrounding MLS, but the designated player clause created for the signing has led to many of the league's best at all stages of their careers (each of the MVP/Golden Ball winners of the past decade have been on Designated Player contracts) and the level of quality in MLS has improved as a result. It was funny, though, seeing him play for the Galaxy when they visited Kansas City during the era in which we played at a little 10,000 seat minor league baseball stadium waiting for our current stadium to be constructed.
Wow that’s amazing how things played out. Great video! 🙌
One of the best sports deals ever! Glad you enjoyed the video 👍
If more European football stars leave their comfort zone and help expand them sport around the world I'm all for it. Glad they've nailed the US market and I hope they can do something similar with Australia, Japan and South Korea in the near future.
🔥🔥🔥
As a Kid I remember a Packed RFK Stadium in DC when the LA Galaxy came into town and it was Front Page News because of Beckham.
Misleading comparison of how much he made at LA and Madrid. All earnings were included for the LA figure, but only his club salary was included for Madrid. You weren’t comparing like to like.
4:23 uhhhhhh those are all Barcelona managers… 😅
Fantastic video 💯

You need to do a video on Zlatans deal as well. AEG signed him and under the table gave him ownership of a club in Sweden.
This was very insightful!

This video needs more views
The contract is the biggest win win in sports history
aawesome video any tips on getting editing to this level lol
But he got sponsor income while at Real Madrid too? You didn’t mention that - but did for USA income
thx. some information i never knew
And here we are present day with Messi in Miami. Crazy.l foreshadow
He's nearly done as well as Gary the Neville
So many parallels between this and the Saudi Arabia Ronaldo deal
I would say the big difference is the marketing potential of each situation tho. The Saudi league has been around since 1976 while MLS was still a fairly new league that was still starting up. The US has a population of over 300 million that also has a massive sports media with the likes of an ESPN. Saudi Arabia on the other hand has only 36 million people & doesn't have the same media pull. Imo if Ronaldo wanted to grow the game in Asia India, China, & Japan would all have way more marketing potential compare to Saudi Arabia where u could argue the sport has reached its ceiling in growth.
