I actually own 4 of the 10497. I plan to make a duplicate of the Arctic Explorer someone made in the 80s out of the Galaxy Explorer. So my plan is to do the updated version with the fourth. I’ve tried to fit in the landing gear in my 918 but haven’t figured out how to make it stable yet. My hat is off to you. As for the number plates for the 924 and 918, I’m using original 1x4 bricks with printed numbers. I found extras on line that didn’t have full sets.
Nice. I initially bought 3 so I could make the 928, 924, and 918. Thewn with the leftover parts from the 924/918 build (and a very small bricklink order) I built another 928. I found another 10497 on marketplace a few months ago - MISB - for 50 bucks so I picked that one up (so now 4 in total). It's still MISB as I don't have the room to display yet another 928
Definitely like your 918 mods. I bought 2 copies, had planned to keep one sealed but Shop@Home didn’t pack the shipping box well so both set boxes have large creases on their fronts and dents. Then I saw the alt build instructions so thinking of building the 924 model with the other copy I have.
One of my first Lego sets was the 924. It was also my first *big* set, which is kind of funny as it is pretty small. But that is where my thoughts usually go when I think of classic space. I like how it's box-like as it gives a delivery van feel to it. Otherwise, I had a few of the smaller vehicle sets. But my last Classic Space set was the Robot Command Center. It was a bit silly, but I liked it. It was rebuilt a number of times into spaceships using what pieces I still had of the 924.
I didnt like the Robot Command Center when it was in the store, but I built it years later from a used lot and loved it! I've been very fortunate to acquire (mostly) all classic space sets over the years.
Those LL918 and LL924 decals turned out well. I still wish Lego would have included these, I can't make them myself, and applying stickers perfectly straight and without bubbles/dirt underneath can be a real pain.
Exactly! It was a bit of a mis-step I think - If they have the alternate builds for hte other 2 ships, they should have included the bricks. The cricut does a good enough job for me :)
@@Sparky1701 I don't have direct access to a decal cutter, but maybe I can find someone to help me out. Where did you get the designs for the stickers?
The Cricut Cutter has a web interface that allows you to import shapes and pictures and write text for the cutter to cut. I use the MicroGramma font, type out the LL 918 and change the fotnt size to match the lego print on the bricks. That's it. This is your first video I've seen and I enjoyed it, as you raise some good points regarding the different models. But rather than having to buy 3 x 10497 and having lots of spare pieces. Do you not think Lego would've been better releasing the 2 smaller ships as they're own models like they did with the originals? As reckon some of the quirks like not having landing gear and the horrible raked back seating position on the alternate 918 would've been rectified if so.
thanks so much for watching! The 918 build left much to be desired. This is my solution for those issues ruclips.net/video/SAquwYWpy5s/видео.html as well, getting 3 sets, and after building the 924 and the 918, you can build another 928 with the parts left over and a few from your collection.
I edit out a substantial number of ums in my non-scripted videos, maybe I should try shock therapy 😅. For most people it's much more obvious and annoying when they hear themselves talking. Many people won't even notice it if it's someone else talking. I've even heard there was a study that said you needed a few ums here and there to make it sound natural 🤷

The LL924 build is really well done. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for saying that. It's only when i make videos. That's a little odd.
Ummm Actually You can buy 4 10497's for the price of one castle.. ;)
That castle is expensive! I'll stick with 3 of these :)
I just got my second 10497 kit and I am wondering which alt build to make
I did the 918 as its my first and fav classic space set :) But I had to get the landing gear working :)
