  • Richard Rudd, founder of the Gene Keys, joins the Know Thyself podcast again for a deeper dive into the Art of Contemplation. He reveals how to pay deeper attention, take more pauses, and see the extraordinary in the ordinary. Explaining that within the ‘normalcy’ of our lives is a profound stillness and peace waiting to be discovered.
He redefines what he calls ‘the spirituality of effort’, and explains that the path to enlightenment can be a gentle, playful, and blissful one.
He shares his practices for taking more pauses in life, tapping into your inner genius, and transforming your greatest shadows. He also gives his insights on the next stage of human evolution, and why he believes we are all moving towards a simpler life.

    ===
A teacher, mystic and award-winning poet, Richard Rudd’s inner journey began early in life as he experienced strange energies rushing throughout his body, culminating in a major spiritual experience at the age of 29. Emerging from what he calls ‘a field of limitless light’ that lasted 3 days and 3 nights, Richard was entrusted with a sacred teaching - the wisdom of the Gene Keys.
A born explorer, Richard has studied with great teachers in the East, traveled through the Himalayas, the Pacific, the Americas and the Arctic. Earning a Master’s Degree in metaphysics and literature from Edinburgh University, he went on to work in the film industry in Australia, trained as a teacher of Chi Kung in Thailand and sailed across the Atlantic Ocean on a small yacht. During this time he lived in Manhattan, Oregon and Hawaii before finally returning to the UK in 1998, where he met Marian his wife. Over the following years they had three children and moved to Devon in southern England. Throughout his adventures Richard has explored his love of writing and in 2006 he won the FISH international poetry award in Ireland.
All Richard’s travels and studies coalesced into a synthesis in 2002 when he began to write and conceive the Gene Keys. It took seven years to write the book and understand its teachings and applications. Today Richard continues to expand the wisdom that he was gifted, remaining always a student of the Gene Keys while teaching all around the world.
In 2019, Richard was named on the Watkins list of The 100 Most Spiritually Influential Living People.

At 18 I found my first teacher. She was in her late 60s. She told a story about traveling in Ireland and getting lost on a country road. An elderly woman was in her yard and my teacher asked for directions. This Elder invited her into her garden and gave her tea and biscuits while she drew a map. On her way out this Elder woman gave her roses from her garden. After years of incredible experiences, travel, meeting well known Spiritual Teachers, my teacher realized that this meeting with this ordinary wonan, showing her kindness was the greatest teacher she ever encountered.
This touched me deeply and was a guiding light of how to live my life. Chop wood, carry water, do the laundry and offer strangers a cup of tea... awakening is recognizing how absolutely extraordinary the ordinary is. Beautiful conversation, gratitude and appreciation ❤

Thank you for this loving shared intimate space between your insurmountable synergy. Strolling down on autopilot, suddenly your poem Andre, caught me by a pleasant surprise. Walking down the streets of London, tired after late night workout, and I didn't even realise. How your channeled stillness crept up from within me, words so sincere, deep and wise. Seeds you may have unintentionally scattered yet sprouted unbeknownst in me, tears of gratitude to arise. Much love ❤

It’s so refreshing to hear Richard talk about feeling even closer to his dad with greater intimacy after he passed. That is the exact experience I’ve had since my mother passed away in 2017. I’ve tried to explain this to the rest of my family and they just don’t understand how I could feel that way. My relationship with my mom when she was alive, while very deeply loving, was very difficult at many points in my life. But since her passing; I only feel such deep love and absolute connection with her.

Years ago while working as a nurse in an end of life setting, I walked in with a travel coffee mug in my hand. I was stopped by an 85 year-old woman who asked what I was carrying. I explained to her that it was my coffee that I made on the way out the door. She asked if I took time to brew it and how I spent that time. I then described the Keurig machine to her and how convenient it was. She gave me the gift of kindly reminding me of the time I was missing for myself. I’m forever thankful.

Alchemical science has always been first and foremost a spiritual understanding and work. When the seeker of truth finds "spiritual gold", he no longer needs to seek possession of physical gold or precious stones...He no longer simply feels the urge to do so. But this work on oneself is really long and disconcerting... Let's keep courage in our quest for enlightenment ! Sincearly 😀😃😄❤❤❤

I experienced that depth of intimacy after my husband of 41 years passed . Without the day to day challenges of domestic life so beautiful to witness him as he was without judgement or projection through acceptance and forgiveness. I can speak to the plant medicine path after 30 years of taking plant medicine and half of that time leading plant medicine, circles way before it became trendy. I did ask myself that question 4 years ago. Where do I stand inside myself without anything propping me up. And so I have never returned taking plant medicines. Sometimes I feel like I lost a good friend.
I hold the deep respect for the path that led me to my. Nature sustainability.

If I never took another plant medicine again, it would feel sad. Like a friend that's no longer here. But my path would go on. That's how I feel about plant medicine, beings that I align with deeply, like a friend that I love getting to know and spend time with. Teachers that teach in ways that put things in a way that really make sense for my mind ❤

Amazing talk. Would it be a possibility to invite Richard Schwartz the discoverer of internal family systems? That modality is fitting neatly here. The Whisperer metaphor is very similar to the concept of the Self in IFS

Deep in the stillness of now,
Lies the greatest gift to be found
It’s in the acceptance of what is,
That you break what’s kept you bound
When you find the quiet within,
      An immeasurable treasure shines through
A glimpse into the eternal nature,
      Of this mystery called you
What we seek is who is seeking,
And so we look to others to be seen
But when you see the one who’s seeking,
You are freed from who you’re being
      A flower opens gently,
And has its cycles, like the moon
When you let go of who you’re not
You might just find yourself bloom
And so a more beautiful world may come,
not by trying to change the tides
But by softening your gaze within
And to begin seeing with new eyes
      🤍
