The looks on the resistance members' faces as they look upon their dead comrades. They've given everything for this war; and it is never glorified. I appreciated that HL2 took a moment express the sadder elements of this world. It makes the world of HL2 feel even more real to me and I pity the humans who have to live in it. Its just great to see games explore the more melancholy elements of a story. It could have been a triumphant song, full of energy and excitement, but instead it serves to highlight tragedy. It always takes me by surprise, and creates a moment of pause and reflection.

On my first two playthroughs of this game I was so enthralled by the physics and aesthetic of the game I missed out on a lot of little details and some lore pieces, on my third playthrough I finally stopped to soak in the soundtrack without being distracted. Best video game ever made.
