You're welcome Little Buddy. It was an honor to help brainstorm on a name and I think you made a fine choice. Ice is a cool name for a hen. And thank you for the shout-out, that was a great treat for me. :)
Coming up this winter on The Grass-fed Homestead: 20 ways to cook butternut squash. I'd be out of ideas after a couple meals and would like to see some of the meals you do with it. Not that long ago there used to be small mills like that everywhere, I hope they are making a comeback. Another fascinating interview. I'm really glad you've got a back up camera, your absence would be missed.
The way your baker was describing the taste of ancient grains made me want to hope in my car and drive on over to pick up a loaf of bread! How very cool. :) Bummer about the camera. Hope they can fix it. And congrats on the new name. :)
I loved this video. I am into bread baking and once we get our own homestead, we want to grow ancient grains. I am looking at buying an amish style hand grinder.from Lehman;s. I like the name Little Buddy chose. It's more original.
I'm glad you liked it Jean. Before my "primal" days, I used to bake my own bread, too. The only ancient grain I used was Kamut. I never made a 100% kamut bread, but I've heard of those that did. What types of ancient grains are you looking at growing?
I work at a mill and anyone reaching their bare hands into the flour or even being in the same room as the mills without a hair net or beard net would be fired immediately. Not to mention the feed at the top is just open to the elements and whatever dust and whatnot are floating around that room. Blech.
Ouch - too bad about the camera. Your videos are great, and I'm sure the portability of your camera has a lot to do with it. Just a technical question: what are you editing with for your videos? And where does all your music come from? I guessed you had done video production before you mentioned it in this video based on how polished they are... you must spend a lot of time getting b-roll!
Hi Christian, I use Final Cut Pro for editing. Most of the music is from the RUclips "Creator Studio". So I download it directly from RUclips. Some of the music has been from bensound.com Thanks for the compliment regarding the videos! You're absolutely correct about the portability. The camera that broke was pretty hardy (took a lot of abuse) and was very flexible for the type of filming I do for this channel. Do you do video production?
The Grass-fed Homestead Not professionally by any means but it's a huge area of interest for me - as is permaculture and homesteading. You and your family are living the dream right now! My partner and I are cycling around the world this year and stopping at small organic farms to WWOOF in the hopes that we'll gather enough knowledge and experience to be successful on our own farm one day. I've loved the videos so far! Just discovered your channel a couple of weeks ago and have been taking your journey in as though it was my own. We'll be putting up short videos on our blog when we arrive at our first WWOOFing stop in New Zealand in about a week!
It is a youth program that is made up of volunteer organizers who teach and mentor children on a wide array of agricultural practices as well as other homestead skills such as archery, fire-making, candle making...that sort of thing. For example, the program we are getting our son into is the "pet rabbit" project. He will learn about raising rabbits and how to "show" them to a judge at a competition.

Thanks PD - - I might have 5 ways to cook it... 20 would be a stretch. Now you have me trying to think of new ways to prepare it.
Peoria Dude That's what I was thinking. I need a recipe to convince my wife that she likes it.
I will never give up breads and grains.

I know! It almost made me want to eat bread again!
Wow you weren't kidding about liking butternut squash.
RIP camera.

In India we do stone milling only and it’s every where
Sorry to hear about the camera loss. What kind of camera was it? It certainly served you well.
Canon G7x mark ii. It did serve me well. I put it through a lot of abuse.
