Diesel AND 4X4? Such Dodge/Mitsubishis were not unheard of back in my day, but they were somewhat rare. I can recall four such configurations and they were all contractor owned and operated work trucks. Two had standard beds while the other two had custom built "tool beds". Those little trucks went where larger, V-6 and V-8 powered trucks could not. Back then mini trucks, as they were referred to, only came with 4X4 if the buyer also purchased a "4X4 Dealer Installed Kit". In our area the 4X4 Chevy LUV was the big seller followed by the Ford Courier and lastly the D50 with the diesel being the most common engine found in that truck.
I bought one of those brand new in 1984 !! Sure miss it. Best advise drain all the fuel and put in fresh. Run it for a bit before changing the fuel filter. I got awesome fuel milage with mine !!! 35 mpg. all the time!! Make sure to cycle the glow plugs a couple times when cold !! Enjoy it
hope I can work out all the bugs on this one. cleaning video coming out this weekend. Paint job is not looking so good. Might be doing a whole body paint job.
I just did a similar video. Red '85 with the 2.6. Had been sitting 12 years. The brakes were interesting. Calipers were seized on it too. Cool little trucks for sure! Nice video brotha..👍
This same Mitsubishi 4d55 is what was used in the ford rangers 85-87 and probably the same transmission and transfer case too. My dream is to find the very lucrative and rare 4d55 bronco II, they were in fact made just not many people checked that off. Oh and if you ever need engine parts, the 4d56 uses the same block and that has been in production up to 2016, so you could really make a little monster with parts that fit right into your existing block.
There is a rare truck ! I had the Mitseybitchie version of that truck way back when ! Dodge was very rare ! Mine lived in Ohio , so rusted to dust in about 7 years !
Awsome truck! My uncle had a i believe 83 had round headlights 4cly 4spd he drove it from 1988 till 2005 when the cab rusted off the frame rest of the truck was pretty clean sat in his yard till 2009 then was scrapped! I was pretty pissed I tried to buy it numerous times fix it up. Ive always want this body style just don't see them anymore I haven't seen one driving around in many years
@@mechanicalmystery7891 Same here. I'm still watching the first vid love these trucks I know where there's one that has that factory paint it was yellow with like black stripes down the side been sitting a long time elderly owner won't come off of it
Since that is a timing belt engine, I would replace the timing belt and belt hardware immediately. I'd also do the water pump. It would probably be good to have a set of new diesel fuel filters. Maybe get them from Beck/Arnley, they usually relabel OES filters. I like that, filters from 1980s Japanese cars were built like tanks.
Rubber Brake line probably collapsed internaly. I would just replace all the front stuff. Calipers, Rotors, brakes, And rubber brake hose and if steel line is rusted replace it.
20:14 next time just cut the rubber hose and crimp it shut. The rubber swole up and it’s not returning pressure. You’re gonna have to replace them anyway.
Not sure why so many people think that, but it definitely was not the brake line. After replacing the caliper truck has been on the road for a year with no brake issues.

@@mechanicalmystery7891 Yes Mitsubishi. They were really Mits with Dodge Badge on it. I had the Gas version. I called it Mosquito killer because it burnt oil and would put a cloud of blue smoke out the pipe.
Not yet. Still debating on if I want to sell. I'm not sure right now what its even worth. But the drive way is getting full and my second property isn't ready yet.
Im not sure what im going to do with it yet. Well see. Im not sure what these sell for, there are not many of the diesel versions around anymore. its really a uniqe truck.
Ya, don't know why, they followed us for miles and we gave them plenty of legal opportunities to pass, but they chose the worst place to do it. You can see i slowed down and got over once I saw them coming and I saw the head on traffic.

the miles per gallon is really nice. Slowly working on doing a lot of maitnance right now.
If you watch Hamiltonfarm they revive old diesel stuff and have started and run stuff on 15 year old fuel. But yeah get that old stuff out.
My cousin had a Mighty Max, very similar truck, he really enjoyed it. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out! Thanks for sharing!
hopeing you like it. will keep you updated.
This brings back so many memories as my high school vehicle was an 84’ Dodge Ram 50. Excited to see the restoration.

Had a D50 back it the 80's. Great little truck built by Mitsubishi. Thanks for sharing.
Your welcome
Always liked this generation of D50 over the latter one. Even Plymouth had a variation of it, believe called Arrow. Salute to the hustle sir!!
I remember in Northern Cali in high school.. We took that motor and put it in everything... It was the only diesel mini truck in the day..
Never knew these came with a diesel. Must've been a rare option. Don't see these anymore. Hope you can save her. Good luck!
Nice find. Ready to I see all the work you do on this one.
My friends grandfather had a 80’s Isuzu pup diesel 4x4 👍

Put it on jack stands, start it in gear and see if your front CVs are turning! Simplest way to check if it's stuck in 4wd

I just added this video to my own D50 Playlist. Hope it helps ya some! I guess we can suffer together. Lol! Keep after it fellas. 👌
I owned one of these back in the late 80s the only place that had filters was the dealer the oil filter was $20.00 and the air filter was $45.00

Actually, it probably would've done some good to lock those hubs (but leave it in 2wd) to get some fluids moving around in that front differential
Your brother sent me.
ah yes, he be helping me start things out over here.
sorry for ask this truck can survive electromagnetic pulse event? amazing truck!
I'm not sure on that. From what I understand stand that kind of even would kill all electric stuff so no.
I just found out that I own a 84 Dodge D50. But here in Australia we call them Mitsubishi Tritons

Is the ram 50 for sale?
