Personally I think the flying spur needs the EWB version more than bentayga. The rear space of the flying spur is no where comparable to the maybach and the ghost.
They had the Mulsanne but Not anymore

There is no need for it. There will be another LWB sedan in their line up in the near future for sure though.
I can't agree with that, as far as tech and recline features yes but length and headspace it's virtually the same in all 3. Check the vehicle comparison based of specs and dimensions
The Spur is nowhere near as ridiculously expensive at the Merc and Rolls either
Very nice but I think Bentley's been a flagship saloon in the main for decades and the Mulsanne should have had a reincarnation and remained the flagship.
Why? Nobody buys sedans anymore for some weird reason.

Top 1% problem I have most of the time with long wheel base cars is that the center console should be a bit longer so that the controls and tablet would be easier to reach without bending and also tablets would be 2" bigger and would move closer and retract automatically.
Excellent review Rory. You are far and away the best car reviewer on RUclips. I always enjoy your insights and pragmatic view of the vehicles on test. The Bentega EWB looks great (never thought I’d say that), but I have to squint to see it as a replacement for the Mulsanne.
37 Trillion?! I find that exceptionally hard to believe.
I suppose there is an equation to figure it out. But with so many things to spec and some many variations within each of those, I am sure no two will be the same, therefore pricing for the 2nd hand market could be tricky, each one being a one off!

Bentayga instead of Mulsanne is like dropping the Phantom for the Cullinan; both cars hard their own unique charm. The EWB Bantayga works for me as an option to the SV Autobiography, pennies not considered
I like the clearance of Bentayga(I would have loved to see that explains in detail in the video). Bentley has always been a luxury brand and a name to reckon with among the rich.
I agree with some of the comments that Bentley should have introduced a new ultimate sedan to replace the mulsanne but with suv sales dominating everything, I suppose there was no choice.
There is more demand for suvs. This makes more sense.
The Flying Spur should have a longer wheelbase. I think Bentley should listen to what their customers want.

The Mulsanne Needs to come back! What they need to do is make the Mulsanne into a two door vehicle with no backseats and just two passengers like a real yacht like vehicle where you can travel in luxury

I like taking care of the rear end
I just don't like this trend of making front passenger seats move forward for more leg room. Luxury isn't a compromise or inconvenient. At lease in a Rolls Royce Phantom EWB, you can fully extend the rear Ottomans without moving a front seat. The Mulsanne has an elegance to it. The Mulsanne EWB was very impressive and (to this day)more rare than a Phantom.
Bentyga is just a fancier Q7. I'd go the Flying Spur.

Not really, the lower priced Range Rover seems as comfortable. The new 7 series large display in the back seems more usable though the car is hideous.
I would prefer a mulsanne to a bentayga, I'd even like an arnage aswell !

No W12, no diesel, no hybrid? Bentley has decided what's best for its EWB customers? Strange decision, IMO. Personally, I'd want the W12 or the diesel. Many others would surely want the hybrid in such a car. What I don't think you want in a chauffeur-oriented car is the most vocal engine! Other than that I like it, but it reveals the design flaw of the standard WB. That is, the rear legroom has always been unacceptable for such a big luxury car. Yet, I don't think you really want your car any bigger than the SWB. This is a cheap solution to a poor design, and it's very late to the party. I would have thought the Bentayga was no more than two years away from an all-new model.
they discontinued the diesel 3 years ago, and in case you missed it: other options like the W12 and the hybrid are following later

@@dr-ok3sn RE diesel: you're right I should have remembered, but it actually suited the car surprisingly well. RE W12 and hybrid: did he actually say they were following? Anyway, from what I have been able to ascertain, the hybrid is likely, but not confirmed, and there are no plans to offer the W12.
@Nigel W For what is worth I think you are spot on with your observations and I thank you for them. The keyboard warriors will always chip in with some condescending comment rather than acceptably put fact. The W12 is discontinued for Bentayga, probably to help lower Bentleys overall emissions. They were kind of dumped with the platform which hindered design. The Aston Martin is less compromised if the precious ones can get over the fact it uses Mercedes tech. They have invested hugely in the UK and deserve some support for that IMHO.
I’d de-badge it, paint it London taxi cab black, have hubcaps made and put a yellow taxi light on top. 🙂

I have always preferred the styling of a Rolls over a Bentley but the Bentayga changes that and the long wheelbase model seals the deal. Now all they need to do is come out with an all electric with a 500mile range
Nah what they really need to do is put the W12 in it.
Very exclusive ride. So exclusive that even among the uber-rich I doubt many will bite. I see someone definitely over 55, doesn't off-road, not a "driver" type individual, but doesn't mind sending the message "look how rich I am."

Bentley should have made a completely new flagship SUV. This feels more of an afterthought

The point is the rear legroom in the SWB is hardly generous.

No this new EWB Bentayga is. A Range Rover is definitely a step down.
A disappointing replacement for the Mulsanne IMO. For what is supposed to be Bentley’s flagship it’s spec is pretty ordinary compared to other cars in this range, for example, the screens in the rear don’t fold away when not in use.
They added length but didn’t offer a third row, why?
Because it is not a bus. It doesn't need a third row.

Another car that my dreams can only afford
Doesn't look terrible, but doesn't scream flagship like a land yacht sedan would. I'm long tired of this SUV craze, especially when people just want to "sit higher" and never use the actual capabilities.
I get the "sit higher" position in my 10 year old Peugeot Partner. Better than the Bentley because the rear doors slide so you can get in and out without denting the car next to you.
This is a one up on the Cullinan, this is now the King of The Luxury SUV's
