Omgoodness, that's a lot! I would be telling Gary thank you every time I ate one lol. He puts in a lot of time and effort pollinating them. Good job Gary!! ❤😊😊❤
Wow, that is truly amazing! Such a beautiful flower, and then the next day it’s not as pretty. It then produces such a unique fruit, people are intrigued by it. So thankful you and Gary teach us so many things. I thoroughly enjoyed your video. Thank you!
Hi Robbie n Gary awww love to be there in that beautiful jungle, is so relaxing and quaint.😂🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️goodnight n Thank you for the excellent video. Much love from Carmen of Boston Massachusetts.
I believe you're right on that. If this is Paul we don't have the experience you have with that many varieties. Letting ours dry a little then hitting them hard with water seems to stimulate bud production.
Didn’t know he did dragon fruit! I have night blooming ceres love the smell and shld get a dragonfruit to try! What a set up! I nvr used vacuum to pollinate.
You two really are Garden Warriors!! 😅 Very interesting Gary!! I'm going to have a crack at growing some. Hopefully I'll live long enough to enjoy the fruit!! 😂😂😂😂 Nevertheless it's a journey to enjoy, like everything we grow!! Great video!!!! 🐲 Very sensible to be careful for your eyes, Robbie. 👀🕷️🕸️
Try if you can to get a rooted dragonfruit plant, many times HomeDepot or Lowe's gets them in, we bought a plant a year or 2 from them, and it has flowers this year. Thanks and go for it!
I wish I could get a dragon fruit that somebody had homegrown. I bought one at the store and who knows how long they’ve been sitting there and it was basically tasteless. Not sweet nothing I desire to buy again. But the way you guys grow them they look like they would be yummy and our nursery in Turlock. California has been selling starts, but I think I would want one that was self fertile.
Thanks Debbie. Because of shipping, like tomatoes, they pick them under ripe so they store longer. Home grown or from a local farmer will always be better. Store bought yellow Ecuador Palora variety tastes good but they're expensive.
Oh, you are going to have so many yummy dragon fruits. That sure is a lot of work Gary but will be so worth it. I can buy them at the store but I'm sure they are no where as good as one that is ripe and picked right off your plant. Plus they are expensive (about $6 or $7 each) to buy in the store. I've thought about growing some but I have no place to put them in the winter.
A close description of the white variety that we pollinated in this video would be a sweeter kiwi fruit. We have other varieties that taste very different, from honey to berry flavors.
I can't get my dragon fruit flowers to pollinate. Watching Gary doing that I think I have found out what I'm doing wrong. I was using a larger paint brush. I will be switching to a smaller brush. My plants have started blooming finally. I've been fertilizing them. The plants bloom from June to September according to Google. Thanks for sharing this. I hope to get some fruit this year. Your plants are awesome and those are the most beautiful flowers I've ever seen. Thanks again.
Thanks Shirley. A small fine tip art brush works best for me. Something that matches the opening of the stigma about an eighth of an inch wide. The brushes do clog up so it's good to have a few of them.
@@RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy Thanks Robbie. I have about 5 more flowers at different stages. I will certainly do that. Enjoy your dragon fruit, they are delicious and expensive.
As long as you get the pollen into the stigma, it should produce a fruit. The real problem would be if you only have one type of dragon fruit and it is self sterile(won't accept its own pollen to set fruit). You would need another source of pollen from a different dragon fruit variety.
I have orchid cactus and they look like the dragon fruit flower and plant. I have tried to pollinate but never knew how. I will try it again. They seem to bloom once a year in about July.

That’s why I can’t bother him while he’s doing it, he doesn’t want me to talk to him, because he just knows which ones he has done, he has to do all that are open each night, by mid morning tomorrow they’re all drooped and closing
How long is pollen good for? Do you refrigerate it? I tried what you suggested to take the stem part of the fruit. I’m partial to the yellow ones. My stems didn’t take.☹️
Wow it’s so educational!! Thank you Gary 🤗🦋 thank you Robbie for being up to videotape!! You guys are amazing 🥰 I got to see the emus!!😘😍
Really enjoyed watching how Gary pollinated the dragon fruit. The flowers are so beautiful. I hope every flower produces a dragon fruit!
85 dragon fruit flowers tonight he just finished 😊❤️ Thanks
This is so cool! Thank you, Gary and Robbie❤❤

So true! But so worth the effort, the fruit can cost in the stores for about $6-8 each many times, if you can find them. Thanks
He is the Dragon-fruit daddy !!! Fun and amazing indeed.
He loves it!!! Thanks, and believe it or not, he is planting more plants around here...

Love that little hand vacuum!
Perfect handy tool, not too strong

Awesome! How exciting. I think the flower when they are stressed and/or as the daylight hours get shorter.

Works perfect!
That sure is dedication! It is amazing what Gary accomplish. Great job!

I'm in Australia, no Lowes or Home Depot, but I will certainly try and track down a source!! Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. 🙏😊
Thatsa big job. Very interesting 😊

Very informative. Love the idea of using the keyboard vac. Work smarter!

Hi Jackie.
I never knew the flowers were so big.
They are really big ❤️😊

HEART, HEART, HEART; I can't find the hearts on my laptop, LOL

Dreams to be a Bee?
😆 Hi Ben.
@@RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy ❤
WOW 😱😱😱 I can’t believe how beautiful and massive those Dragon fruit flowers are.
How much do you think those flowers are worth each$$$ ???
The fruit cost $6-8 each in the store ❤
@@RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy I would think that the flowers would cost much more than the actual fruit 🤔 They’re so massive and beautiful.
I don’t remember if you’ve mentioned if they are fragrant. Can you tell by the flower what color dragon fruit you get?
How do you remember what flower Gary has pollinated? Do you flag each flower with something to help you remember?
That’s why I can’t bother him while he’s doing it, he doesn’t want me to talk to him, because he just knows which ones he has done, he has to do all that are open each night, by mid morning tomorrow they’re all drooped and closing
@@RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy WoW that’s absolutely amazing how in just one single night they all get pollinated and then they drop.
Do you keep the pollen for the next time you pollinate.
Usually not, as we have so many flowers we prefer to collect it fresh each night, though we HEARD you can for only a few days in the fridge if needed.
What kind of light did you find?
I NEED to do a quick video on that light, it did tag it just under the video, I just bought another one today..Thanks
Do you have to wait till midnight to pollinate the dragon fruit?
Usually around 10pm and after, by morning the flowers are done internally and will no longer be able to utilize pollen.
What is your success rate n terms of #flowers pollinated vs. fruit?
At this point I average about 90% plus flower to fruit.
@@RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy Amazing!!! Thanks for responding. 😀

I tried what you suggested to take the stem part of the fruit. I’m partial to the yellow ones. My stems didn’t take.☹️
Are there mail and female flowers?
No, one flower is a male and a female and that’s why they have to be hand pollinated
No audio?
theres audio. please get out of youtube and get back in. hopefully it works for you.
@@juliel.bateson4971Thank you so much
Try again there is audio
Why doesn't he have anything to protect his arms? We are just out here pollinating dragon fruit in the middle of the night.
He did the second night 😊, normally he only does a dozen or 2 at night. He didn’t expect that many at first. ❤
