Our Cav “Tikka” is 6 months old and weighs 12 lbs. We use the smaller size Sherpa carrier for her and she travels very well in it. We love the pad in it that is velcro’d in, and can be easily removed and washed. This carrier is so lightweight too!
I prefer the older Sherpa carriers. They had a tray on the bottom that the pad would fit into. Our older pet sometimes has an accident during the flight. The pad cannot absorb everything and the tray holds it in so there’s no leaking. I bring a plastic bag, towels, and an extra pad for any such emergency. The newest Sherpa carriers no longer have this tray. 🙁
Great video! I use the Sherpa on Wheels as I do European international flights with my pup Milos and Air Canada doesn't allow carry on luggage with Pet and Cabin. So carrying him around the airport would be exhausting on long layovers. An Air Canada agent tried to reject Milos because he couldn't stand but I showed our multiple flight bookings with him and it was fine!
@@MollysMum-A.K. Just act confident and if they try to mess with you show them proof that they have travelled before or that they are comfortable and it's not an issue. Good luck!
Omg I ran into one of those ticket agents that asked me to make him stand and turn around🙄. Luckily I used to work at the airport and got someone else to check me in. I luv that carrier too it really is easy to hold my Rusty or even attach it to my carry on and zoom him around 🐶
How did you go about getting someone else to check you in? My cavalier is about five inches to tall to stand in the carrier and I’m worried they won’t allow her on the flight
@@bricesicle most of the time I’ll go up to the counter with Rusty already in his bag but I don’t close him in. Once they see he fits and is comfortable they mostly never ask to see it closed and for him to walk around in it. When that did happen I went over to the priority line and they helped me no problem. I hope you don’t have any problems tho
@@jaydays365 Thank you! I always thought to have them closed in, but this helps. The rule is so rude only 10% of small dogs can stand in a 8-10 inch carrier…
The standing carrier rule is very dumb to me, I would think if you want to fly with your dog, your dog should be (hopefully) sleeping or laying down most of the time. I get if it’s a long flight but jeez
100 percent agree. We flew with our 14lb mini golden doodle in the large sherpa carrier. She had plenty of room to rotate her body, lay down comfortably and move, but couldn’t stand completely. We were almost turned away because of that. Needless to say they let us go on board after begging. It was so stressful.
@@celinaheavner1925 I have an 8.5 lb Pomeranian and he can not stand fully in the 9" height they allow. I don't think any dog measures 9" from paws to ears. Probably they have to have those rules so they have the power to send anyone back where the dog clearly isn't comfortable and animal welfare organizations won't riot.
Thank you for your videos, it’s really helpful for me right now. I’m getting ready for a flight from Europe to Montreal, it’s our first flight, and I’m little bit nervous about my cavalier or she will feat in that dimensions, corse I know the dog should feel free in her carrier😕 can you please white dimensions of you bigger pup Cavi please?🙏🏻 it will help me to understand a proper size of carrier for my piggy) thank you🌸
Herky Yey!!! We missed you and Milton !! 🐶🐾Lily is taking her 1st trip !!! My sis is getting an operation so we need a carrier 🤪 I think I bought the wrong one 🤪🤪🤪
Has anyone flown delta with a cav? I'm so stressed out about my first flight with my cav Ainsworth (4yo black and tan). This video was helpful, thank you!
This is the exact carrier that worked for my boy from 6-9 months. Unfortunately, he’s 21 lbs now and he is not able to lay down (he’s kind of a long boy). I wish they made one just a TAD larger, but I also realize my boy is a bit bigger than the normal Cav 😭
My Sherpa has tons of air miles. Re: issues from gate agents...friend who is a retired pilot and fellow Cavalier owner got turned away on his return leg of trip by gate agent who claimed the dog was too big for the carrier. The gate agent then proceeded to file a harrassment complaint against my retired pilot friend. SHEESH!
Honestly they should have precheck on pets. How silly your airline allows you to fly one leg and denies you on the return leg. That is ridiculous. I am surprised no one has mentioned this.
Thanks for the great video! I am considering a Sherpa carrier and Southwest Airlines requires a 17L x 10w x 9.5h carrier. Would a 4 month old Cavalier Puppy fit in the medium Sherpa carrier? I am thinking about buying my pup from an out of state breeder. Note: I don't know if SW takes into consideration how flexible a carrier is. The medium Sherpa is 17L x 11w x 10.5. All answers are appreciated.
My dog was denied our flight with Air Transat in Montreal .. he’s a one year old Cav, about 8.5 kilos.. everything was fine, the carrier, the requirements, the vaccines, etc. and the reason was because he could not be standing up in the carrier even tho he was comfortable and could turn around with ease !! I’m devastated !! 😢 we were treated so poorly it was an awful experience .. I had to leave my dog behind with family..
I have just been through this with United airlines. It was perfectly fine with no issues travel to our destination. We even double checked a week earlier at airport to let them see the dog and carrier. Just make sure no issues with our dog. But with return flight, they had given me the hardest time. I was devastated too. My dog is 18lbs. They said our carrier was too wide on the bottom that won't fit under the seat, wouldn't lesson to my explain that everything was perfectly fine earlier with our travel. They also said my dog is too big to travel. 😢
Thank you for posting this is super helpful. I am planning a trip with air Canada, is the Sherpa bag over the height requirements or is it accepted because it can squish down?
If you are traveling this summer DO NOT travel pet in cargo some airlines like air Canada are actually banning it temporarily. Airports and airlines are short staffed your pet may be lost of left in the crate for 20+ hours
How intense is the experience at the check-in counter for your dogs? Do they weigh the dog or pull out the measuring tape to make sure the soft carrier is not exceeding any limits by a centimeter? I'm looking on the AC website, and the size of the carrier seems to depend on the size of the plane itself. so If I bought the sherpa L instead of the M, I don't want to be turned away because the plane has a length limit difference of 1 inch :\ Air line approved should mean airline approved...
I’m having the same question, I could only find one option thar is close to rhe dimensions they ask for, but it’s 1 inch bigger and I’m so scared to be denied to board with our dog and miss Christmas with our family. Could you please share if you’re able to travel? Thanks 🙏🏼
Hi.m worried about travelling with my Maltese dog to India as I don’t even wanna consider putting him in the cargo.he weighs 10 kgs n m travelling from Africa to India..can u suggest some options as I cannot risk his life in the cargo??
Yes it’s horrible to even think about leaving him alone in the cargo belly for such long hours.. which I will definitely not that’s y looking for other options
Have you ever taken a flight with your dog? :D

Oh yes, so many great points about this carrier! Even if she is small, you can get the size L and she will have more space :)

That’s what I am scared about too… my poodle mix is pretty much the size of a cavalier. Their legs are too long to be able to stand.
