A Tiny LittleBits Jam + Update

  • Hey folks, shortest video I've ever posted on here😀!
Just wanted to say hello and give an update. I've been working for a while now on setting up a side channel about ASMR. The plan is to use a new channel to explore and share a lot of 'different' sounds that I'm interested in, sounds that don't really fit into this channel (which is focused almost entirely on synthesizer tutorials and music). I want it to be about interesting sights and physical sounds made using various solids, liquids, tools, etc. - all captured on a wide variety of recorders and microphones - condensor mics, dynamic mics, contact mics, emf coils, DIY mics, and more.
Now, if you're wondering "why this?" Well, in many ways it's a lot more connected to my actual area of training and expertise (physics), and so this is a way to bring more of that personal background into the videos that I make. If you're wondering "why ASMR?" specifically? Well, I watch a lot of ASMR videos on RUclips and really admire many of the content creators, but the biggest reason is that I like the thought of making videos that people will find relaxing and/or stress-reducing. Anyway, that's the work in progress (developing content ideas, learning more about various mics and recorders, etc.).
But, I'll be back doing synth tutorials too, once I've launched the side channel. My Volca Sample 2 recently got delivered. I want to do a granular synthesis video about that, another video about the Model:Samples, show the basics of Strega, go into some depth about ByteBeat music, talk about Norns, and more. So, please do stick around for all of that. Apologies for the long gap, but synth tutorial videos take quite a bit of time and effort, so this side channel project has also been a break of sorts from that. Hope you are all doing well. - Nim

I just want say that I discovered your videos after I bought my Volca Drum, and watched everything else thereafter. But I have also since been using your vids to fall asleep to as you have a really relaxing voice. I am encouraged by your AMSR channel to air that outloud hoping you won't find it offensive. Needless to say I am happy with the new direction.

No offense taken whatsoever, that's very thoughtful. I'm glad you've enjoyed the videos and have always hoped that people find them relaxing. Uploading an asmr video and a video on this channel super-soon😀!

Wow, that's a huge news! I like your sound experiments, and your tutorials, and guess separating them in different channels would make more sense and more fluid.
And god, I wish I could Korg little bits in my country! It sounds amazing and workflow is at different level
    Amazing video, as always

New subscriber here. Wanted to drop a comment expressing how thankful I am for the videos. Your approach and subject matter really speak to me. Looking forward to the new channel!

Thank you, I really appreciate your feedback🙏🏼! I'm gradually getting it together on the new channel - one nice thing is that the asmr shots I've been working on have turned out to be a really good source of new audio samples to use on this channel. So, some occasional synths and fx over there, and some occasional asmr samples over here, nice symmetry to it😀. Thanks again!

Thanks very much! It's been an interesting thing to plan and set up. Much more about the video and viewing experience itself vs. trying to develop and express ideas (as on here). Synth videos can certainly _seem_ boring and/or repetitive - but if you own (or are interested in) the actual synth it can make the viewing experience very worthwhile. But ASMR seems to always be teetering on the edge of boredom, no matter how good the 'idea' being shown is, _unless_ you are really reacting to it at a visceral level. Anyway, thanks very much for the support🙏🏼!

I've only made a short loop with it thus far, but I really want to focus on how much the usb connectivity improves the workflow.

You’ve completely sucked me in to this interesting corner of “synth.” Love your channel. It’s a unique take. Here’s wishing your new channel well, but hoping you’ll still come back around here!

Thank you very much for the well wishes🙏🏼! Yes, no intentions of getting out of the synth space on here, and I'm glad this channel has been a part of your own travels 🚀!

I enjoy getting field recording on my Tascam DR05 but i am very much a beginner. The new channel sounds very interesting.

Thank you. Field recording is such an interesting and wide open area of exploration. Identical gear but intrinsically different results for each individual. I've been thinking a lot about letting the two channels sort of intermingle: asmr sound samples in syths and synth sounds/fx for asmr. Thanks for checking out the video!

@@undulations my recordings go into my modular. I use the Disting mk4 sample playback algos and Clouds/Beads. Portal to another world!

Hi. Love your channel… I’ve been looking for help with what seems to be a common issue for Volcas: the function buttons (play, rec, mute ect) are really worn out and i have to push really hard to get them to work. How can I solve this?

    • @undulations
      @undulations  2 года назад +1

Thank you🙏🏼! Dang, I really don't have much advice for this :( Do you have a midi controller with midi out? If so, and depending on which Volca, then you might be able to develop ways to play with that, I can give details if you need them. If you have a usb-only midi controller (and a laptop), then a midi 2x2 box might help play the Volca by that controller. If you don't already have a midi controller? Probably cheaper to replace the Volca with a (less) used one than get a controller. Sorry I don't really have any helpful solutions about the buttons themselves.

Well, I haven't had any issues, but most of my set are pretty old (bought shortly after they first came out). I guess there is always a chance that production quality could change🤔. Do you use a battery or one of the usb power Bits?

    • @undulations

Hey, sure👍🏻 It is Power going into the Sequencer, and then I use two Splits to fan the Sequencer out to three destinations (i.e one branch of the first Split goes to the second Split). The 3 destinations are the first Oscillator (set to saw), second Oscillator (set to square), and the Filter's "Freq In" port. Then I combine the two Oscillator output signals with the Mixer, that goes into the Filter, and then lastly through the Delay to the Speaker. Thanks for checking it out and let me know if something isn't clear.
