Nice work. A bit of history on your knife. It’s from the late 30’s or early 40’s. I have my fathers knife from that period, only made by Boulder Knife from Boulder, Colorado. Upon getting into WW2 we needed everything. The government bought commercial knives like yours (and my Dads) to issue to pilots, sailors...everybody not issued a bayonet. Individuals also bought their own. There were many makers. By 1943 the government got contracts for a similar knife going. Kabar had such a contract. Contract knives had a long 7-8 digit war material board number stamped into the tang. People think it’s a S/N but it’s actually like a part number. One easy tell is pommel. They specified steel as opposed to aluminium. Your aluminium pommel tells you it’s pre-contract. I have my Vietnam era survival knife by Kabar. Also contract. Sadly in bad shape like that knife of yours. Its even more utilitarian with a steel butt and guard. But it still has the stacked leather washer grip. Just thought you’d like to know. Keep on keeping on.
Antique people hate restoration videos because in their minds the antique is destroyed through the restoration because you lose more of the original piece the harder you work on it. An antique dealer (or buyer), normally will want the device with the patina and original sheath... even if that means the antique looks broken and nonfunctional. The type of restoration you are doing makes the antique look new and reduces the value of the item. If this makes you happy and the piece isn't an overly valuable antique... I say go for it because it looks freaking awesome. It's your knife! I think you made the right call... now the knife is a user!!!
i had one of these back in the 70s when i was a bit younger, i never realised it was a pilot knife, i gave some abuse to say the least but it wouldn't brake, i swapped it in the end for a durex.
Hi sor mazing pice of work you that you dun their sir lvly and rustic lvly job on the leather sheath to big👍👍up to you keep doi knives sir please thank you🤪dino in uk
Awesome work. I have that same knife and love it. Hey I have a question for you. I have the green harbor freight 1x30, and if I ever press even lightly against the area with the steel support (I forget it’s name, the platon?) when sanding the sander seems to start kind of skipping and makes a chattering sound and doesn’t sand smooth anymore
Не понравилось, что не отрихтовал хвостовик - клинок явно отогнут назад. Да и финишную обработку рукояти как-то не до конца довел. Либо обрезал много при монтаже ролика.
The union cutlery company started using KA BAR as a trademark in 1923 after a fur trapper was attacked by a wounded bear and killed it with one of their knifes.
Whatever culture that makes these knives i.e. mexican, German, american, these knives never age well, mine is an old German boyscouts stag knife, the leather stacking at the base of the hilt was the first to deteriorate and now the knife wobbles in the hand. Absolutely take good care of these knives they're great when maintained!

I think your bench grinder might need new bushes... or replacing altogether.
It was perfect my friend. Congratulations on the video. I'm already your subscriber. A hug from Brazil.

Absolutely gorgeous. I love that you remade the sheath, too.
Respect sent from an old knife maker .
Hella dope results on both the knife & sheath, @lostandrestored!

Oh my goodness absolutely love your videos xx❤️❤️👵🏻🇬🇧🏴
Great work love seeing older things come to life
Great job
I like the little touch of silver in the middle of the handle. Really good
Очень хорошая работа. Нож не отправился на свалку. Нож получил вторую жизнь. Мастеру 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
when I first clicked on the video I thought it was one of those million subs channels. Nope! Underrated content 😁 Very good quality
Good job on the knife and on making a new sheath for it. You sharpened it well.
Really nice save. Can't find knives made like those older ones.
Man that turned out really nice!!👍🤠
Excellent work. I really appreciate that you didn't use glue or epoxy on the grip.
I came here to say that. Those leather handles are COMPRESSED and pinned not glued. The epoxy people ruin every knife they use that shite on.
Nice job
Looks great , nice i like
super cool and satisfying..especially the fact that they cut well too
"It cuts well" what do you expect the knife do?
Wow. What craftsmanship. I'd love to own that beautiful knife
Beautiful job!!!!
Beautiful job my friend looks awsome

That new sheath you made.Looks very good!
Excellent restoration as usual dude 👏👏👏 restoring the sheath was even better. You are a craftsman. 👍👍👍
I'm glad you liked the sheath!
@@lostandrestored i salute you but i don't have a salute emoji. 😞😞
A leather welt should have been added to the sheath, so that the blade edge can't come into contact with the thread or the rivets. Just my 0.02 €.
Wow 💥 !!! I love it ! 🔪
Great restoration. Beautiful.
Very nice job really first rate and the sheath has well 👍 👏
Best result👍
Hello beautiful restoration well restored well done
Amazing 👍👍👍👍😀
Can you do a video just on that crazy karate chop thing. I don’t own a saw so it might be helpful. Lol

Not expecting new cover, but nice you did it. Extremely good result.

I love K-Bar knives, and I've never seen one with that cool little leather braid at the bottom of the leather stack....any idea how to find one??
Beautiful piece & have you ever restored samurai?
No, I would love to do a samurai.
@@lostandrestored one day I hope as you have a talent and really enjoy your videos :)
Great work and a nice new cover
How do you find stuff like this
good job bro
Very beautiful work!
Beau travail.
I feel like im watching Jack Black refurbish a knife the way you were karate chopping the wood lol. Keep it up JB!
interesting handle..👍👍👍

Nice video, great outcome and a question how long does it take to restore these
6:35 I wish I had your skills. You should have waxed the string for the case.
Linda demais
How can I get rusted knives and items
Nice restoration, but when you have something as sharp as the side of your right hang, why would you need a knife?
me gusto mas la funda de cuero que el cuchillo
Supercool
Muito bom gostei demais !
молодец...

Most likely the driving belt
Me: No way he can restore this
Lost & Restored: Hold my hunting knife
А что это у него клинок по ттношению к рукоятке....
Задран????? 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
Show 👏👏🇧🇷👍
I'm glad you liked the show!
Neither Ka-Bar nor Survival knife and why did you destroy the original sheath when re-stitching would have been sufficient?
До конца сложно было работу довести?

Why leather, came on, there so many materials bone, is my favorite.
