I can confirm the fact Elephants are not actually that strong against heavy infantry, as it is implied in the game's description I ran a set of experiments on sandbox mode (thanks you for letting me know about that cheat) and found out this data: Elephant vs standard units 1v1 - Archers: Elephant wins with 80.5% HP left (68.6% with micro) - Javelineers: Elephant wins with 90.2% HP left - Phalanx: Elephant wins with 36% HP left - Light horse: Elephant wins with 84% HP left - Cataphract: Elephant wins with 76% HP left - Horse archer: Elephant wins with 80% HP left (36.6% with micro*) Elephant vs standard 1v5 - Archers: Archers win with 60.5% total HP left - Javalineers: Elephant wins with 0.6% HP left (a single hitpoint) - Phalanx: Phalangites win with 93.4% total HP left - Light horse: Light horses win with 80% total HP left - Cataphract: Cataphracts win with 84.9% total HP left - Horse archer: Horse archers win with 77.8% total HP left* * Horse archer's faster movement speed and the fact that they can attack while moving means they can theoretically kill a war elephant without taking a hit with good enough micro, however this won't be easy or fast to achieve, besides the elephant will most likely have support units that can deal with the horse archer anyway. And final disclaimer, this was only tested in the classical age, without taking into account things like generals bonus armor, attrition, age gap, unique units, gunpowder etc. but I think it shows how heavy infantry is actually the proper counter to the war elephant, on early ages, contrary to what the game wants us to believe
That's amazing! Thanks for taking the time to research and sharing, I'll pin your comment so it has more chance of being seen by newer players. One thing I like about this game is you never stop learning - thanks again!
I'm glad you're still playing! I tend to play against the ai, I play against real people when I live stream but I'm terrible haha but it's still fun! Do you have a favourite nation?
Liked, subed and enjoyed the vid. I loved that game as a kid and ALWAYS struggled with counters because how visually similar units look like. I just downloaded the game again and i ma give it another try. Going through all your videos on the topic.
@@savasolarov8424 thank you my friend I appreciate it! I hope the videos are useful as this is an amazing game and great fun to play either alone or with friends, enjoy
Wow this one took some research! I enjoyed realising how in depth the counters are in Rise of Nations, its a lot to remember but looking at it in this way has helped massively. Check out my previous video for ages 1-3, I hope you found it useful and look forward to your feedback and any additions / corrections from more experienced players!
Great video! Looking forward to the video in the next ages! Also think it would be great if you did videos on your favorite nations, how to use their bonuses for great advantages and even strategies.
Thanks I hope you found it useful! Thank you for the suggestion, it's always useful to hear what you'd like to see in a future video - the final instalment is on it's way for the future ages. I'll put favorite nations on the list too!
I'm glad you found it interesting! There will be another video on the way shortly, please keep your eyes peeled and I hope you find the future videos useful too!
I would argue that crossbowmen are NOT a poor man's arquebusier. They're *worse* since you have to spend wealth. I would only recommend using them if the enemy is heavily (and I do mean *heavily*) using pikemen and heavy infantry. Rushing through gunpowder age and into Enlightenment is a favored strategy of mine.
Thanks for the comment, always happy to hear others opinions / experiences. I must confess I haven't picked the game up for a while (I guess we're being spoiled with all these new RTS games at the moment) but I shall certainly be giving that tactic a go. I do like the Gunpowder Age but Enlightenment is probably my favourite of the lot.
Nice video man. Again love to see rise of nations vids. You should do a specific battle in custom scenario like d day or pearl harbor f.e. but without the economy build up stuff. Like place soldiers in specific parts of the map and just enjoy the battle.
That's an awesome idea, I've not done that before, I like the economy stuff but it does make it difficult to enjoy the actual battles. The WW2 side is definitely my favourite so D Day or Pearl Harbor would be epic!
Video three is on the way at the moment, I'm not sure if it will be ready this week but definitely by next week! I'll add the air strikes to the list, it's always useful to know which content you would find useful.

- Cataphract: Elephant wins with 76% HP left

Elephant vs standard 1v5
- Archers: Archers win with 60.5% total HP left
- Javalineers: Elephant wins with 0.6% HP left (a single hitpoint)
- Phalanx: Phalangites win with 93.4% total HP left

@@antonioortegon8514 Haha long comments are the best, especially when they're so detailed :) Thanks!
So happy this community is still alive, been playing rise of nations since I was kid. I only play against the AI but I love learning more and more.

Best elephant counter... spies!!
Huh?! Converting them into your elephants? That's crazy!

Totally loved your channel. The sound could be a little louder!
Thank you for the feedback on the sound, I'll make some adjustments! I always worry people can't hear me haha
Is your 3rd Video ready? The one about modern units ? Also, please could you do a video about how to play and counter air strikes? Thanks
