Almost anything would do in a non critical application, in fact. Super glue. Regular water-based craft glue. Glue stick. Nail polish. I've used many household things as thread-locker in a pinch.
I use a 23 mm viltrox as basically my only lens it stands up to daily use I just shot a weeks vacation on it I would expect the same from the 13 So it's no good because of a couple of loose screws on the lens hood😂
Another impressive review. Love all the photos examples. This is the one third party lens I have used on my Fuji that does not change the color cast of the images. I can not tell the photos apart from my fuji lenses. My copy of the lens has worked great too. Love the color, contrast, and sharpness. You are spot on to call this lens a beast. Its one that Fuji should have made a long time ago.
Very good and thorough review. I got this lens about a month ago, short story…..., I got a bad copy and I returned it (caca happens), now I got the Rokinon 12mm f/2 (manual focusing) and it works great.
I was reading a review and the reviewer said she would not buy this lens due to the flare issue. She showed some sample photos which have orange blobs in the corners and also orange ghost flares as well. I took my lens and was able to reproduce the orange blobs. Occurs in daylight when you have the bright sun at one corner of your frame. The blue spot flares and orange blob appears on the opposite corner. Have you experienced this issue with your lens? Thanks.
Awesome review on this lens, Andrei. I bought this lens last year. How have you found support and/or firmware update process with Viltrox? I’ve heard mixed reviews on support responses. Thank you!
Thank you! I've heard that some people had trouble updating this lens. It turns out that not all cables work for updating the lens; out of four cables I tried, only one worked.
I received mine for fuji mount. I observed that the rear of the lens is not centered compared to sony and nikon. I compared it to other viltrox 13mm lenses for fuji, and found out that it has the same problem. I dont know if it affects the performance of the lens.
Hey try to see if the lens is decentered, take a photo at f5.6 of a brick wall and check if one side is softer than the other, same with top and bottom. And I think you should email Viltrox about this. It could be just a design flaw and not affect the performance of the lens.
Great review, I have xt200 with 15-45 kit lens and I alos have ,fuji xc 35mm orime. I am contemplating on buying fuji xf 18-55 and viltrox 13 mm prime. Do you think it makes sense to buy these two lenses over what I have already? Primary purpose is photography during holidays, portraits during indoor events and occasionally doing travel photography
Hey Andrei ! Did you have any flickering issues with your lens while filming ? When I shoot with the Viltrox 13mm on my XH2S, the screen starts flickering. It seems to happen only when theres a lot of different light source
Nice Video my friend…I’m looking for a Good Camera with Lens for Traveling and Real Estate Shoots in Low light and Tight spaces..I was suggested with Sony ZV-E10, but lens wise in dilemma among the Viltrox 13mm f1,4 or Sony 11mm f1.8..Seeking Suggestions…
Hello Andrei! im thinking of buying this one for my travel, to take it instead of the 18-55. Are there any alternative lenses you would compare with this? Or should i just buy it right now? :D thanks!
beautiful review andrei! high quality stuff right there man! btw: did you also try the viltrox 23mm 1.4? how does it perform on the xh2s (especially for video)?
I've been wondering about that IBIS wobble, maybe it would be good if one could deactivate the Z & Y rotational axis compensation in IBIS, or at least have a setting that halves that rotational IBIS compensation
You said that you've used the lens in rain, but also it doesn't have a gasket at the mount, am I being silly for worrying about the lack of that gasket? Im not sure I could be comfortable with using it in rain.
Yes, in light rain and for short periods of time, the lens fits very well on the body. However, this is just my experience, and you should avoid doing this if you are not comfortable with it.
Thanks. I wish they made a 16 mm lens with such a great performance. 13 mm is too wide for me probably because I can't cope with it, you do it perfectly :) Instead of Viltrox I purchased Sigma 16 mm but - what a shame! - it has no aperture ring... By the way are you going to release any new Fuji recipe?
@@AndreiDimaReviews i did not shoot too much with this lens but as I can see it's razor sharp and renders pleasent bokeh. Akso the price is very enjoyable :) As it's going about recipes I recommend to take a look at Cinematic Summer Vibes by Tudor Mateescu. It took my breath away. Cheers!
You mentioned the autofocus for lens is about 90% for video for the xh2s, and mentioned it’s good on the xt4 but what percent would you give it for video on that body?
I think this lens is the most impressive 3rd party aftermarket lens I've ever used.........period. I'm always "WoW-ed" whenever I use it for the simply fact it wasn't made by Fuji and type of quality you get for a fraction of the price.
If budget is not an issue, Viltrox 13mm or Tamron 11-20 f2 for Sony ZVe10?🙂 just planning to use it for travel … mostly in low light.. cos I have Tamron 17-70 for daylight
Hey Adrei, have you experience the very sharp flare issue of this lens? I had to return my newly purchased 13mm 1.4 viltrox and the replacement has the same issue. Any thoughts?
I see the usefulness in big aperture wide angle lenses in astrophotography. But I need to understand the use in other situations. Say it's late at night or you are in a low light environment. You don't have a tripod or stable support. While you can shoot at f/1.4, you know that your depth of field will be limited to some extent even when using a wide angle lens. Your image will not look nice with only parts of it in focus. I would think it's better to use at least f/2.8 or f/4? I would choose to increase the ISO for a noisier image that I can correct later, rather than shoot at the largest aperture and end up with insufficient focus in the foreground or background. On the other hand, in bright daylight, for sure you wouldn't shoot at wide apertures for landscapes. In that case, how useful is the f/1.4 on a lens like the Viltrox 13mm? Would carrying a wide angle zoom such as the 10-24mm (Fujifilm) make more sense? Hope to hear some sharing! Thanks.
I've come to a similar view. I have had the Fuji 10-24/4 as a general purpose wide angle for several years, and been very happy with the results, including on my X-H2. When I started shooting astro a while back I needed something faster, and after using the Rokinon 12/2 for a while upgraded to the Viltrox 13/1.4 about a year ago, and have been quite pleased with the results. At the time of buying the 13/1.4 I thought I might also use it for low-light street photography, to complement my Fuji 16-80/4. But I've found it too wide for my taste, as well as relatively large and heavy. So the 13/1.4 has remained my "niche" lens for astro, and I got the Fuji 23/1.4 -- a brilliant lens, and much smaller and lighter than the 13/1.4 -- as my "niche" lens for low-light street.
I have had mine for 2 weeks - JUST BUY IT ad take amazing photos NOW!!! done - its that good. And yes Iv tested hundreds of lenses in my time and this thing is incredible.
Thank you for your perspective Andrei! I've just purchased this lens myself.
Thank you for watching! I hope you enjoy it!
If the screws do tend to come loose, perhaps the best preventative cure would be to put a drop of Loctite on each screw when you buy it?
Good tip.

Son’t worry. It is the “character” of the lens. Embrace and enjoy the lens.
I still struggle to use my 16mm 2.8 properly but this lens is still appealing 😅 I am not used to those wide focal lengths yet.
My first tip to people that use wide lense is to get closer to your subject.

The Samyang is a good lens but the price is too high for what it offers, the Viltrox is just better.
Pics here were some or the best I've seen on RUclips from any photographer, well done.
Wow, thank you!
How it's handles hard light without lens hood?
Better than most lenses.
I just bought the same lense for e-mount, the aperture ring is silent and has no clicks for some reason. I am a little bit disappointed haha
