  • Using my last piece of walnut wood plank in my shop, I show my progression of creating a wall art piece; how I came to the final product. I also show how you can use a wood lathe to make plaques without the need of a router pattern bits. I hope that you enjoy this latest video and get inspired.

    I create handmade, high quality wood pieces (and sometimes, crafts using other mediums such as natural stone or acrylic) that connect to people on an emotional level. Each piece is meticulously designed to look and feel like an art piece. I have always adored art, and have an underlining mission to incorporate my knowledge and skills into wood turning. With my videos, I hope to inspire and encourage others while promoting wood turning, experimentation, and safety. Please stay safe at all times!

    Hope you enjoy the latest video. I also wanted to mention that you could make trivets the same way, but just need to add a heat protective finish over the coloring.

    Very nice piece and video. What is the first coating you applied from the squeeze bottle? Is that an oil? Thanks

    • @spwoodart
      @spwoodart  7 лет назад

      Steve thank you Steve! The first coat was an oil. I used a made fiction polish: Linseed oil, shellac, and denatured alcohol. Then after I the friction polish on the lathe I used 3 coats of spray shellac. It's not going to be handle much so this finish I felt was appropriate. Thanks for watching.

    Nice work, may i ask about how long you have to hold the tool onto the to get the right burn or is it trial and error ?

    • @spwoodart
      @spwoodart  7 лет назад

      Mart Ashton hey, thank you and thank you for watching. I really appreciate it. As for the burner, it depends on how hot your tool gets, and what type of wood you are burning. The walnut takes a little longer to burn than say maple wood, or pine. It takes several minutes for the burner I have to heat-up. It also adds time if you put on a oil first like I did. It took me about 5 hours to burn that pattern. Once the burner is hot enough it only takes a few seconds to burn to the wood. Hope that helps. Cheers!
