    Hey pals! This video went live with an error this morning (looks like I had hit the mute hotkey in obs by accident so there was no sound for the number one item), so here is a fixed version. If you left a comment on the previous video, please repost it here and I'll do my best to answer it. Also, if you're just jumping in to check out the fixed last item, it would be super helpful if you could let the video run for a few minutes in addition to that, just so youtube doesn't see a lot of people watching 3 minutes of an hour long video and then quitting - the algorithm doesn't understand fixing errors.
    Enjoy!

    Thank you for these Act specific tier lists! I’ve learned so much from them!

    • @missing_links
      @missing_links Месяц назад

      In the gear slot specific builds on this channel, the tiering of items makes a little more sense for that kind of advice. The top tier items are items that radically increase the power of most builds or which are the keystones of specific, very powerful builds. Especially if the goal is to make a strong party, aiming for the "build keystone" items is the best bet.
      To this end, the callous glow/coruscation and sometimes the luminous gloves feature on radiating orb spirit guardian builds, potent robe is a can't-miss for eldritch blasters, and fire acuity + arcane acuity are the items on this list which your buddy would probably want to look at most.

    • @missing_links
      @missing_links Месяц назад

      @@CunningLingu1st Well, lightning and cold as part of wetblasting comps is one of the staple "yup, this is pretty broken" party setups.
      For most of the game, you have a tempest cleric cast low level create water and/or chuck water vials while he spirit guardians around (for the incredible efficiency of that spell slot) and your other characters all cast lightning and cold spells for double damage. Late game, summon water myrmidon gives you access to their healing mists, which applies wet to everything in a hilarious radius every turn, and you can replace chucking water with the trident of the waves on a throwing EK or throwbarian.
      This whole setup doesn't even really need items, though. The broken things are inherent to the wet condition, and that just doesn't depend on items to work. Hell, even the builds taking advantage of it don't need to. Armor of agathys abjuration wizard is one of the builds that can complete the game without equipping a single item all game long, and it's 100% groovy with a wetblasting comp.

    The are some key differences between the Eversight Ring and Devil's Sight.
    For one, with Devil's Sight you are still blinded in Fog Cloud. And while you can target characters who are inside a Darkness spells using the Eversight Ring, you do so without advantage unless you also happen to have Darkvision. Whereas Devil's Sight allows both targeting into the Darkness and doing so with advantage. Meaning that having Darkvision in combination with the Eversight Ring is slightly better than Devil's Sight. It can do everything Devil's Sight can do and also do it with Fog Cloud, and it prevents you from being blinded from any other source.
    I attempted to do some extensive testing a little while ago, but was quickly turned off by how many different configurations I could set up. The ability to shoot across a cloud, into a cloud, out of a cloud, within the cloud, at long range, at short range, Fog or Darkness, Ring or Devil's Sight, with or without Darkvision. So many ways to combine these factors.

    One other item for Honorable Mention is the Rippling Force Mail purely due to it's synergy with Abjuration Wizard. Force Conduit stacks with Arcane Ward to effectively create a DR floor of 10 on that build as you exchange a stack of Ward for a stack of FC whenever they take damage. It's also relatively low AC at that point in time as well so it helps to funnel attacks toward a target that you want getting attacked anyway.

    • @williamking7800
      @williamking7800 Месяц назад

      I assume that by "DR floor of 10" you mean in conjunction with the Heavy Armour Master feat.
      So if you use Arcane Ward, it still gains stacks, but if you have max stacks and use Arcane Ward it DOESN'T discharge with the force damage? That's counterintuitive.

    • @pyrflie
      @pyrflie Месяц назад

      @@williamking7800 That would actually bump it up to an effective 13 base DR, effective is a key word in the statement. The build (1WDS/1TC/5AW when you get it) uses upcasted AoA for retaliation damage so anything that touches it is taking 20-40 cold damage, the force damage is unlikely to proc in Act 2. There aren't many battles in Act 2 that see this taking enough hits to even reach max stacks of FC, let alone depleting the Ward, it's all about maintaining the DR.

    Acid Splash gets overlooked a lot.
    Potent robe and the Callous Glow Ring in act 2 on a dragon sorcerer with the necklace of elements is going to be outputting 2D6+17 damage per target and able to hit 4-6 targets per turn. Upgrading more in act 3.
    Cantrip. Zero resource required to set it up (no spending an action to give the wet condition). No spell slots used. That's 24 avg damage per target and 96 damage each time you hit four targets. Even if you only hit two it's 48 damage from a cantrip.
    5 from charisma due to black dragon draconic bloodline at level 6
    5 from necklace in act 1
    5 from potent robes
    2 from callous glow ring
    Eldritch blast sure is a great spell. At this level it's only hitting twice. This can hit double or triple as many times at this point in the game doing double or triple as much damage. I'm not saying it's better than eldritch blast, but it's certainly able to be as effective.

      With a 3rd level spell slot, same action economy, a Tempest Cleric Wizard with no gear can do the same damage, with even less randomness, and potentially benefit from Wet on top. And setting up wet isn't really an action, it's a Throw, so half an Action from a teammate with Extra Attack.

    • @zero11010
      @zero11010 Месяц назад +2

      @@williamking7800 so, your argument is that this cantrip with no set up isn’t that great because a third level spell slot that also requires concentration and an action to produce the wet condition can match it? Are you sure that’s what you want to go with? Do you normally long rest after every 2-4 encounters?
      It’s just a cantrip. No resources. No set up. No concentration.
      So, you can do this while using concentration on CC abilities. Or concentrating on twinned haste … which can include yourself so you can drop two per round.
      It also meshes really well with the ichorous gloves that create a 1D4 AOE acid effect (which also gets the callous ring +2 damage). And also the cull the weak ability to take out targets at low health with another AOE damage effect. It makes a great combination with the bloodlust elixir because this build doesn’t require long rests. So, a single elixir can last practically all of act 2.

    • @williamking7800
      @williamking7800 Месяц назад

      @@zero11010 lightning bolt doesn't require concentration. With Tempest Cleric channel charge, 48 damage to EACH enemy, guaranteed (no roll), WITHOUT wet. With wet (easy to set up), 96.
      Acid Splash isn't good.

    • @zero11010
      @zero11010 Месяц назад

      @@williamking7800 what other cantrip can do 100+ damage in act 2 from a single cast? What’s your criteria for good?
      How many of those channels do you get per day? No resources needed. No set up. No concentration.
      Make an acid splash character for AOE fights. Actually try it. There’s no cantrip that comes close for AOE fights. Even eldritch blast doesn’t match for pure AOE damage.
      Effortless cantrips doing 40+, 60+, 80+, and even 100+ damage even in act 2. Are you going to try to argue for crit damage on ray of frost on a target with wet condition? Because for single target fights this can do that also. But, for AOE fights it spits MASSIVE damage. Plus, you’re not going to reliably crit, and it requires set up that drains actions and other resources.
      Seriously … what other cantrip is even close? Sacred flame? Fire bolt? Chill touch? Vicious mockery? Thorn whip? Produce flame? Eldritch blast and ray of frost are both better on single target. For sure. A LOT of the game is big AOE fights where you can readily hit 4+ targets … 96 avg damage … plus ichorous gloves, plus cull the weak. Not melting through single targets. Wiping away multiple targets at a time.
      “Another character can create the wet condition.”
      Yeah. Or, instead of that they could spend their turn removing enemies from the board.
      “But this other build has huge novas! They just have to rest often and also require another high initiative character to support them by devoting their first turn to giving enemies the wet condition …..”
      Effortless huge damage.
      “But if I long rest after every other fight because I burn all my resources in each fight it’s possible to do more damage, so this is lame.”
      Effortless.

    I know I'm late to the party, but my personal favorite Sword Bard setup is unlocked as soon as you reach moonrise.
    If you're using the helm of arcane acuity, you can't have mage armor. But if you use the hat of storm scion's power and have thunder damage on your bow from the drakethroat glaive, you basically get your weapon attacks to deal thunder damage and duplicate the effect of the helm of arcane acuity without losing the mage armor.
    Why do this? So you can wear the graceful cloth, which is super strong, and still have decent AC thanks to the combo of high dex and mage armor. You can hit 20 dex without ASI using hag hair and graceful cloth, so 15 AC for nothing. Add on the message armor to hit 18, pick up a shield to get to 20, and you can definitely push that even further. Never bothered with defensive flourish because having 20+ AC already feels generally pretty safe. If you take the helm of arcane acuity you lose 3 AC so you want to find some better armor meaning you can't hit 20 dex without ASI, it's a big trade off in my mind.

      The circlet of hunting doesn't require that you marked the enemy, only that the enemy is marked by someone. Another party member can use grym's helmet to apply hunters mark and it will activate circlet for its bearer.

The circlet doesn't need the wearer to have cast hunter's mark, just that the target is marked, so a party that has grym's helm can benefit from the circlet even without a ranger (or a non-ranger character with a ranger ally can wear it, though typically the ranger will get the most value imo)

    Shocked ring of free action, the dj armor, and amulet of harpers didnt make the list when the dj shield and circlet of hunting did. I think circlet of hunting being only usable on rangers and with one act3 bow should boot it into honorable mention and the eversight ring being an hm when the dj shield, which is even more build specific, is so high up. Also think yuan-ti should be bumped up a bit but the top dozen or so are basically indisputable. Great list!

    This is for sure be a bit of a meme build, but I love myself a tiger heart barbarian that uses Callus glow ring, luminous gloves, boots of stormy clamor, thunderskin cloak, and ring of spiteful thunder using drakethroat glave for thunder dmg on the weapon. You can switch this to using cold dmg and snowburst ring if you'd like but the ice surface can be overwritten with blood so be careful. I know that Arcane Acuity is a busted mechanic, but would you consider Radiant Orbs to be fun-ruiningly overtuned in the same way? Are there other mechanics which you would consider similarly banworthy? Very much enjoying both the build guides and the tierlists.

    • @missing_links
      @missing_links Месяц назад +1

      It all depends on how you use them. If you run a luminous armor + spirit guardians build, yes, that will get out of hand. Luminous armor + a paladin running divine favor? That'll be strong, but fine. You can apply even the acuity items, just don't run their broken interactions.
      Fireball wizard or sorc + fire acuity? Totally fine as long as you don't use scorching rays to insta-stack. Bladelock with the helm? Super accurate EB and hard to save against wall of fire aren't breaking the game, even if they're quite good. It's only a problem when you decide to use acuity with hold person, hold monster, and other similar "no turns for you, ever" spells.

    SPOILER BLOCKER FOR DARK URGE AND THE POTENT ROBE (just in case some peeps haven't seen it yet or not read the wiki)
    I hope this is enough space :D
    Hey I wanted to add a bit of additional information regarding the Potent Robe, you can still get it even when you play Dark Urge. But it requires a bit of setup, first of all you need to be sure that you can one shot her (although not necessary it makes the aftermath smoother), secondly you need to make sure to have non lethal attacks turned on as to not actually kill her (unless you're into that but I will judge you) and lastly you should probably disguise yourself or have a companion do it so that you avoid any opinion penalty. If you have done so and she's succesfully knocked out she can't show up during your nightly murder as the Durge and you instead murder a stand in Bard-NPC. After completing the long rest you will now have an entirely healthy (again) Alfira in the grove and thus can still get the robe from her in Act 2. Hope this helps for those who wanted it but didn't know how or those that just want to avoid killing our favourite bard (no it's definitely not Volo).

    Risky is imo the very single best item in the entire game unless you run a totally non martial party. Which ever character I give it to just becomes a powerhouse for the rest of the game. It is interesting how much these item ranks change based on how often the player rests.

    • @missing_links
      @missing_links Месяц назад +2

      Except that there are better ways to gain advantage with no downsides, if your goal is just gaining advantage. Even talking ring slot, the eversight ring + darkness is 95% of the time advantage with no cost and with a huge additional defensive buff.

    • @lendial
      @lendial Месяц назад +1

      @@missing_links You are absolutely correct but I do no rest honour ruleset runs and getting advantage without expending spell/skill resources is game changing. As for darkness, that mechanic in general will trivialize the game if you build around it with eversight and devil's sight because the enemy AI just does not know what to do. There is also the ease of always having it without having to use an entire turn to setup a darkness cloud, land a blind spell or prebuff with gloves of automoton.

    • @bufftucker
      @bufftucker Месяц назад +1

      I agree that Risky Ring is good, but the upside is not even close to Helmet of Arcane Acuity. RR is a good item that is easily replaceable by one of the many other effects that give advantage. HoAA offers a game-breaking, combat-winning effect. HoAA is, in my opinion, in the Tavern Brawler tier of things that should have never made the final game in their current form: They trivialize combat.

    • @lendial
      @lendial Месяц назад

    • @missing_links
      @missing_links Месяц назад +2

      @@lendial Okay, then minimally your list of better items would have to include the arcane acuity duo/trio and bhaalist armor as better items, yes? Which would categorically make the risky ring not the best single item in the game.
      As to darkness, the usual method of applying darkness prior to act 3 is an arrow of darkness, which isn't exactly an expensive way to gain advantage and huge defensive buffs for at least one, but easily 2 or 3 party members by that point.
      You could also run punch drunk bastard, which gives you easy access to (effectively cost-free) advantage as many times as you'd like, which functions both as one of the best stat sticks for ranged and non-martials for this reason, and is also among the best few weapons outright for any build that expects to apply melee attacks hitting more than one enemy frequently i.e. tiger barb or hunter ranger at level 11.
      I'm not saying the risky ring is bad, but "best item in the game?" That's pushing it pretty hard. Huge upside, yes, but also a significant downside and not a super unique effect.

    I still think it doesn't make sense to group mountain pass items with act 1. Every item in act 2 prior to the shadowfell can be applied to act 1 content, except the goblin camp. Especially for purchased gear at places like last light and moonrise, there is no meaningful distinction in how early or easily accessible these items are compared to creche shop and Esther shop items, nor to the content for which these items are relevant.
    The groupings ought to be based on permanent story progression events. Mountain pass items are functionally a part of act 2, even though they can be applied to some areas of act 1, and shadowfell and onward items are part of act 3, even though they can be applied to some areas of act 2.
    If you can't use an item to complete the goblin camp, it isn't really an act 1 item, and if you can't even take an item into an act 1 location, it isn't really an act 2 item.
