One time at Defqon i was getting beer for my friends during Power Hour and when i was bringing em thru the crowd i heard left/right was startin and i was like NOOOOOO and ofc i got run over and rip beers LMAO.

I was there, still have the video on my phone. The ground was indeed shaking beneath our feet. Absolute insanity. The best thing was the unity with everyone around you.
Imagine losing your phone in that crowd when jumping 🤣😂
I once lost my wallet in a mash pit on lowlands in the beginning of a set. Gave up on it quickly. Afterwards just took a quick stroll around, like meh why not, and found it! with all it's contents still there :)
Though another time I gave my wallet to a friend in the morning to buy coins. The proceeded to not find him xD. Didn't find anybody I knew till 10 in the evening. Had a blast partying with random people.
i live 15 kilometers away from defqon we could feel this at home we hear the music also every time

It actually looks like as if they are moving the complete stage left and right, it's just mental how everyone is joining in. Well I guess you don't really have a choice at some point hahaha.
if you look closely you can actually see the speeds of sound, the people infront change direction before the people in the back do.

This was an awesome moment. i was right in the middel of th crowed. you can see the camera's shake. it was pretty fun and happens every year since 2016

In the Netherlands we also have a Party called Mysteryland, it used to be close to my house here (floriade terrein). There is one cultural made Hill called the Big Spotters Hill. That Hill was used as ground for the audience that led down to a field of grass with at the end the Main Q-dance Stage.
Fun fact.
Why im telling this, that hill is 22m high. and every year after the event some workers would check the height of the hill, it happens to sink a few Centimeters after every event.
A great testament to how there is immense power in numbers. :)
Q Dance stage is the only reason I visit Mysteryland

Ahh Defqon😀 great memories! Every year when I was younger Defqon, Mysteryland, Dominator, Q-base, Decibel and many more.
I was at the first editions of most of them (exept mysteryland). And many editions after... good times, good times

I was there for the first left-right, and every year after. My first one I had the problem that my wallet and phone were too heavy, so my pants started dropping. Having my arms clenched around the people next to me I had no option but to hop around on one leg with a knee up. The best stories come from defqon.
Yes i am proud to be dutch. The party's are intence but so much fun. I can't wait until we go wild again. Next year i wanna have fun again.

So yea these kinds of moments at festivals useally show up at seismograph stations nearby.
They are creating real (very weak) earthquakes that equipment many KM away can pick up.
Knowing how many people visit Defcon 1 over the weekend (around 250K people spreaded over Friday, Saturday and Sunday) this is somewhere between 65 and 75K people jumping from the left to the right at the same time.
Glad to have been 1 of the 60k people there, hope 2022 we can do it again!

these audio technicians really holded their breath and crossed their fingers, hoping that the array speaker-towers and delay-stacks kept standing up-right.
it's clear that after they made their point this just could not go on and on much longer then this relatively short moment. that really would cause some problems.

It's funny that if you look closely at the shot around 2:52 (this vid) that there seems to be a wave going on from the front to the back, that's actually because of the speed of sound!

I know what you're talking of, though. Seen it multiple times ... the best one was when I was standing on the top ring of the Kuip at a Prince concert at night when he did a slow song and everyone in the crowd was given little flashlights. A wave of light eminating from the podium ... very cool.
@@theGoogol You're right, but I've heard somewhere (don't quote me on it, believe it was a redditor who said he/she was a sound technician) that they calibrate the towers as well to slow down, which makes sense because the main stage itself, I think, has way more speakers and therefore produces much more sound. This would result in a distorted sound if you heard the mid-field speakers first and then the main stage. I can imagine that looked cool!

Now that I think about it ... this is probably why those towers aren't speakers.
Also, they had the chopper which film from the air doing left/right too 👌🏻

There is a other festival in southern part of the country ( pinkpop) where in 1993 rage against the machine caused a small earthquacke with a stunt like this.

I can still remember being there, but at the other side of the festival laying in a hammock, and everything was shaking!
I was there that year and before. There was some talk about the need for better cameras (gyro) at the VIP stage, because the jumping made the filming unstable and less useful for later use (after-party clips etc)
