When they referred to the two maids being like the daughters of the Downstairs Family, they meant Ruby and Daisy. Instead of Daisy, they showed another maid who was only there briefly. Poor editing.
What a fabulous series now watching again as an adult, but loved it as a teen, the war years especially!!:

I loved the series, but missed many important episodes, as I was still in school, and late night viewing was forbidden to us as kids, and DVR’s, DVD’s, & VCR’s hadn’t been invented yet. If they did re-air the series I’d be able to see it in its entirety, finally, in my mature years, which I would LOVE immensely!

@@psychosoma5049 Thankyou for that .It was David Kernan who sang,with just him and a pre recorded piano track playing off set .He makes a good job of it as well. He has made a CD of it with a full orchestral backing but it is not as intimate where you can appreciate the quality and nice timbre of his voice.

Is downing town abbey based on this?
Kevin Alleyne they say no , I saw an interview of one of the Downton Abbey stars and when the interviewer said upstairs downstairs, only to differentiate the cast not referring to the 70’s series, he was told they are not suppose to use that term.
@@mikeelmira back in the day, the usual term was 'below stairs', so they could easily not mention 'upstairs downstairs' quite easily.
Shahan Cheong Yes I suppose they could, I just repeated what was said in the interview. After thinking about it I think they did start saying below and Above stairs in the interview.
I doubt they were keen to admit as much.
Downton Storylines are ripped off wholesale from Upstairs Downstairs though. They knew there was new generations who hadn’t seen it. Upstairs Downstairs is from an era of studio bound drama, it can feel like watching a theatre play. So they know most wouldn’t see it now. It leaves producers free to plunder old series like this. Modern tv is closer to movies with the increase in location filming for both interior and exterior scenes, it feels more dynamic and realistic

It’s what inspired “Downton Abbey”, but, in spite of some uneven acting, it’s far more detailed, subtle, and textured. Many of the plots from “Upstairs, Downstairs” were stolen by Julian Fellows and his team of writers.

It was many years before Downton Abbey and in some ways superior! If any show was a take off, Downton Abbey is a take off of Upstairs Downstairs.
And Downton Abbey was Now Where as Good or Made and it had no Hudson or Mrs Bridges.🇬🇧💍🎩👛
