  • ALESSIO TREGLIA: THERE IS MORE TO BLOCKCHAIN THAN BITCOIN
    Tuesday 15 March 2022.
Blockchain, Bitcoin, cryptocurrency are used interchangeably by most people, but they are quite different concepts. Since the creation of Bitcoin, several blockchains, and cryptocurrencies, have been launched, along with smart contracts, asset-backed tokens, DAOs, and NFTs. As a result of this explosive development, blockchains often became compartmentalised and unable to communicate with each other and can only handle a small number of transactions per second. Challenging issues associated with blockchains, such as the environmental damage of proof-of-work will also be addressed. Alessio Treglia, Vice-president of Engineering at Tendermint explains how consensus algorithms like Tendermint allow the Cosmos Network to solve some of the hardest blockchain problems of scalability, usability and interoperability, and create a decentralised network of independent parallel blockchains. This presentation also considers implementation issues. Denis Faveed, lead at Starport, will introduce a complete, robust, yet simple-to-use platform with flexible features for creating blockchains and other decentralized applications.
Chaired by Dr Sylvia Gottschalk, Programme Leader BSc Banking and Finance, Middlesex University Business School.
