I love that quote "it's not who you know, it's who knows you". I've never heard this before, but it makes total sense. People need to know what you've been up to so they can talk about you to other people. As a freelance photographer that's now motivating me to update my clients more about what I'm doing, to encourage them to talk to their friends and colleagues about me.

Great vid. I think important to note that many can't afford to take unpaid internships. Also a little ridiculous that many multi - million dollar corporations still expect free labor under the guise of "learning" or "getting an opportunity".

I don't agree with the unpaid work experiences. This assumes a certain level of privilege that many young people may not have. More privileged people taking up valuable unpaid work experiences will just result in the disadvantaged people remaining behind. We need to do more to create a fairer playing field and improve social mobility!
It’s nothing at all about privilege. Unpaid work is not the same as doing a job without being paid. Unpaid work is about helping and learning. We are not taking away someone’s job or career opportunity. We exchange some time for an opportunity to learn.

But also life’s not fair and the amount of people there are in the world vs options means that there is always something one can do. What stops people is procrastination and laziness. -this is me. That’s why I’m not where I wanna be.
This is a very weak/victim mindset. Motivated people can always find unpaid work, it’s literally unpaid, so it shouldn’t be hard to get. Also, if people from wealthier families were somehow restricted from unpaid internships, that’s also quite unfair and discriminatory. Just cause someone is rich doesn’t mean they should be denied the opportunity to prove themselves, and make it on their own merit.

You can’t take an unpaid internship if you have to immediately fend for yourself after school/ university, fact. That’s just not an option for everyone, it doesn’t mean you’re weak or a victim. Such unhelpful comments. Doesn’t mean it’ll never be an option, might be a longer timeline. Parental financial and moral support are key to getting a good start. Those who don’t have that and overcome and stronger for it, not victims. But pretending that we all have equal opportunities is nonsense. Great videos though.

Good advice. But I do think people need to understand that some people are raised with a significant advantage. Self made business owner parents, modeling history (pretty privilege), cultural emphasis on high education. Even if normal people achieve a quarter of what you do financially that still might be as equally impressive given their starting point and background.
