This was rather amusing. Looking under the box and trying to open that single layer of foam to find the coasters, brilliant. Hope you got them in the end bud.
Thank you for the informative review. It was advantageous to learn how poorly designed this oversized set is (with the needless glasses). Thankfully, I can play all Regions BD or DVD, and the British limited edition set is a much cleaner design. From the 'Big A UK', including global shipping, it's still slightly less expensive than this US set (with the current exchange rates).
Unbelievably hard to pull the discs out. I used a clean pillowcase so I didn't leave fingerprints all over mine. I don't push them fully in now, so they extend out of the box about 1/2". Kind of absurd that 20+ years after the dvd format they still can't figure out how to create a box set that's functional.
I did receive the coasters; otherwise, my experience has been identical to therealdeal's. That said, I could have happily done without the glasses and coasters; in fact, had the money invested in the gilded trappings been funneled into accessible disc packaging instead, I'd have been thrilled. I spent 15 minutes last night attempting to extricate Season 1, Disc 1 from the death grip of its sleeve, to no avail. At this point, I seem faced with the choice of damaging the elaborate, overpriced futile packing to extricate said disc, or making two lowballs and drowning my sorrows as I contemplate this new expensive paperweight I just purchased.
Btw, therealdeal: I neglected to thank you for making the video. I took your suggested approach--the brilliant, 'flat-handed-label-side-finger-hole' move--and WAS (finally) successful in exhuming disc 1 from its seemingly-impenetrable cardboard entombment--without destroying the packaging. Doesn't it kinda makes you wonder if, after designing and creating a prototype of such an elaborate packaging scheme, it ever occurred to anyone involved to field-test the damn thing prior to production ? Anyway, thanks again.
Can't believe you got no coasters, I would have been so mad. The book is beautiful but I took all the disc's out and put them in a binder, just like I had to do with the Weeds Blu Ray set.
Thanks for making this video! I wanted to buy this box (love mad men too), but that is some shitty packaging. Scratching the blu rays is bound too happen.
a blu ray discs has protective rubbery coating ,so unless you have claws instead of manicured nails you are hardly gonna scratch them. I was on the fence to buy this set but after watching this I am sticking with regular release in plastic cases.I think the problem will be once the cardboard booklet wore down and discs will be flying out of the pages.
Hope you got your coasters eventually! It looks like it would be nice on the shelf, but really the only reason I would get this is for the season 6 commentaries, considering I have all of the individual sets. It being badly designed means I'll only get to listen to them if some kind techy soul rips them, really,
Do you think it's worth buying the ~special edition~ box set for the book and tumbler glasses? or would I be better off buying the normal set with regular plastic cases?
+florenceloveect // I think there's no regular edition available in the USA. This edition is cool, but the sleeves are a big design problem. I had to store my discs in a microfiber sleeves case to avoid scratches and fingerprints.
Do you know when the UV code expires? I don't want to buy this and then not be able to watch digitally. I'm from the UK and this version is approx $25 more than the other deluxe box set on blu ray so I'd only want it if I can have the UV version working. Thank you.

You really gotta learn the difference between a DVD and a Blu-ray. Also, you showed everyone your UV code.

+Daniel Stark Well said! I'm still waiting for them to release this in better packaging. Hopefully soon!

I saw your comment on the other video,ha ha! Man you really want those commentaries
Does it have Spanish subtitles?
Edit: Nvm I was able to read the small letters on the box saying it does.

The digital code is usually good for a few years so you should be ok. I wound up returning mine, I'm waiting for a version with better packaging.
Found any trick to pull the dvd?
Can you do a review of the new one you got?
I returned this one and I'm waiting until they release a set with better packaging. So far this is still the only set you can get.
