It's a shame we never got a dedicated Wonder Woman series in the same canon, but at least she's in Justice League and Justice League Unlimited.
I agree same with Flash, GL, Hawkgirl, Martian Manhunter, GA, Black Canary, The Question, Huntress, and Mr. Terrific for good measure.
I would like an Aquaman movie with the DCAU Aquaman.
This was a case where the voice actors could’ve portrayed the characters in live action. Such a wonderful series.

Stoked to pick that up. So glad it got the HD treatment. Those first three episodes are probably my favorite on-screen Superman origin story.
Superman and Batman being best friends is a good example for people to live by. They are so different, as different as night and day, yet they can work together and even be friends.
Can you imagine this version of Batman asking Superman if he bleeds? The WB movies are a long way from who these characters have always been for the past 80 years.
love, love, love the early superman cartoons, the way they made him fly and the cool art for backgrounds .... all ahead of its time!!!
The multi-part episode "World's Finest", where Superman meets Batman for the first time, is one of the best storylines of this series!!! I especially loved how they discover each other's secret identities, Batman's discovery of Clark is completely spot-on!!! I wish the live-action movies would have taken note of this series and Batman the Animated series when they made their past films, then they wouldn't have had so many failures. These animated shows are still the VERY BEST adaptations of these characters (and their stories) EVER brought to screen!

Well said! I remember watching the Superman/Batman Movie (feature version with all three episodes combined) on VHS at a friend's house circa 1998 and being absolutely blown away by the level of storytelling and how much maturity it held for both Superman and Batman. I agree with you that it's a shame the Warner Bros. films consider anything from comics and television to be beneath them. It's pretty clear that the folks in charge of the films themselves have very little connection or history with these characters.

Got my set in the mail this week. The series has never looked better, much like Batman TAS and Batman Beyond. I hope Justice League complete set release is next. Yes i know Blurays are out for those but we need a proper complete set with the first series in the widescreen format like they originally intended. I would also love to see all of Zeta Project, Static Shock, Super Friends on BD, Freakazoid, Animaniacs OG, Pinky and the Brain and Tiny Toons, Gobots, Centurions, The Mask TAS, Swat Kats all remastered and released on BD as well.
Superman has been getting a lot of love as of late with Smallville, Superman the Animated Series and of course Superman and Lois. He definitely deserves it. Smallville is definitely an inspirational and influential part of my life and I absolutely adore it. Superman and Lois does a wonderful job of emulating the elements and themes that Smallville brought to the small screen from 2001-2011. I haven't seen Superman the Animated Series yet. I'm going to have to see if I can order a copy from Best Buy so I can finally give it a viewing. Otherwise, thanks as always Heath for another wonderful video. I really appreciate the continued hard work!

While I liked the ruby spears animated version of Superman (as cheesy as it is) the 1996 series is easily the definitive incarnation of Superman
It’s basically what if we took Superman into a Batman the animated series scenario and it worked
The show was surprisingly able to tell dark stories even for Superman standards (though let’s be honest Superman is no stranger to dark storytelling)
I also like how they understood Superman’s character he’s not just a blue Boy Scout but an actual person beneath the tights (I know he’s technically an alien) this is what I like about the dc animated universe from the 90s they understand who the heroes are and expand them from how fanboys think they act
Also tim daily is basically to Superman as Kevin conroy is to batman perfect casting Clancy brown did a great job as lex Luther they even got the guy who would later play Danny phantom as jimmy olsen
Superman the animated series is just as good as batman the animated series and while it did get cut short during it’s third season it still should be respected for bringing Superman to a new generation at the time
I always liked and agreed with the statement that Bruce Wayne is the mask and Batman is the man, while Superman is Clark Kent's mask to protect those he loves.
And you're right, Superman is no stranger to dark stories, and I've always loved that when creators really connect with who that character is, they can throw all sorts of darkness at him without it changing who he is, his moral compass, or the fact that he's really the boy from Smallville who wants to help people because he can do what others can't. Would love to see some of that show up in the movies again. It's been a long time.

I really wish they'd committed to more of a Special Edition with booklets and all the bells & whistles that they did for BATMAN TAS. As usual they skimp out on this.

This show takes me back for sure. I was obviously a fan of BTAS. Then to see Supes was going to be given the same treatment in style and animation , I was pumped. I first learned about STAS in Variety magazine. I bought that issue specifically because Superman was on the cover. It was in glorious color. Not many issues of Variety were printed in color. So it was special ya know. Thank you for your passion and this review. I'm definitely going to pick this up.

I really loved the Demon episode & World`s Finest as far as the crossovers go. Bringing in Darkseid & the Fourth World characters as villains was genius. I especially liked Ron Perlman as Orion.

It's definitely Superman in the theme. Shirley Walker was asked to do something different, delivered then Bruce Timm and them were like actually we do want something that says Superman and she came up with the STAS theme.

I think Warner Bros. should have included the animated Superman movie "Braniac Attacks" on one of the discs. One DC comics character (originally from Faucet Comics) I think deserves his own animated series is Shazam!
I always loved the animated Superman and the super friends and so on and so many of them truly helped me through some hard times due to my handicap as a kid. I would love to get this along with others but who knows when I'll be able to grab it but maybe it'll be cheaper. Take Care and Stay Safe.

Great Review 👍 I Just got this set yesterday. It's a shame about what is missing. Also if they could have alternative presentations for "Last Son" as well as 'Worlds Finest" as seamless short films, as they aired originally, that would have been neat. I'm having issues with my digital copy though. Vudu said it was redeemed, but not showing up in my library??
Sounds like you redeemed the code the day before the street date? That always seems to cause problems with VUDU. When I get something from Warner to review, it now explicitly comes with a note not to redeem digital copies before release day.
This is why I love this channel! There’s pure passion in this review. As a massive animation fan I always get super excited by releases like this. BTW Heath, have you heard anything about upcoming Warner Archive animated series releases? What could be the next Hanna-Barbera series to come out on blu-ray?

I love your Superman video. Just a side note, The Fleischer Superman Shorts came out between 1941- 1943. I wish those where on blu-ray, they would look awesome! I too have been to The Superman Museum in Metroplois, Illinois. Awesome!!!! I live in Illinois, I need to make a trip back there some day.
Yes! I don't know why I said thirties. Superman wasn't even created until '38. The Fleischer shorts are included on the Superman Anthology Blu-ray set! They have also been released in a single Blu-ray volume, but I can't vouch for the quality, because they don't come from the Warner Bros. elements and are apparently mastered from public domain sources. amzn.to/3BEoTqU

What is the best version of the Fleischer Brothers’ Superman? I’ve seen a couple different versions.
I was worried the green screen HBO max issue would be carried over but so far it's not a thing on the blurays. I hope to upgrade to bluray in the future. BEST SUPERMAN.
I bought this blu ray set. Unfortunately in part 2 of Apokolips Now, the tribute to Jack Kirby, which was broadcast originally, has been edited out of the ending and replaced with a title card saying Not the end. The funeral scene at the end has also been altered where it appears the characters attending the funeral, intended as references to Jack Kirby related characters and real life personalities have been painted over. The visual background in the scene is a lot darker and black than its original broadcast version. Not what i was expecting!

Fleischer shorts were great only superman ive ever watched tbh lol was don't watch animation as much as i should anymore but when i do its stuff i did as i kid which not stuff alot of my friends did i watched 50s and 60s stuff and even older popeye tom and jerry hanna barbera casper all that great stuff

I'm a big special features, audio commentary, trivia ect. Seeing it was missing some from the DVDs is kinda disappointing but I'm sure the quality will make up for it. Suprised no "Superman Braniac Attacks" movie on it. BMTAS and Batman Beyond had movies included.

I'm a Batman fanboy and was extremely excited when Batman : The Animated Series was announced. I loved the DC cartoons from Filmafion (who later gave us He Man but that was after my time) with Batman (one of the cartoons had Scarecrow), Superman, Superboy, Aquaman and JLA (featuring Flash, Green Lantern. The Atom and Superman). I even liked the Filmatuon show with Bat-Mite
I never failed to get up early every Saturday morning to watch The Superfriends. I even sat through Schoolhouse Rock (I will never understand why ABC thought we would want to sit through that on a day off from school).
When I heard about Batman : The Animated Series I kept thinking of what the animation would look like. I thought it would look like The 2 movies that were out, that the Bat costume would be all black with the logo in the yellow oval. My problem with these shows is that the characters look like stick figures. The same goes for this Superman cartoon as well as the JLA show.
I thought I tight be my age getting the better of me but I loved Gotham Knight as well as Batman: Ninja as well as Justice League : The New Frontier,
I do like Tim Daly as an actor. I first started liking him when he was in the Barry Levinson film Diner with Daly, Mickey Rourke. Daniel Stern, Steve Guttenberg. Ellen Barkin (who looks just like Cameron Diaz).
The Fleischer Superman cartoons were made in the early 1940s.

Part 1" easter egg commentary and "Superman: Behind the Cape" featurette from Superman: The Animated Series - Volume Three.
I have a feeling they pulled them so they could keep the disc count down. Quite annoying.
