SO much great information. I'll have to watch this a few times to soak it all in. I love when things are put into historical context. When you mentioned women going to work and the skirts getting wider and necklines getting lower it made me think about how fashion and jewelry trends change together. I would be curious to watch more videos where you talk about some of the turning points like this.
Thanks Autumn! I'm so glad you enjoyed it and are getting something out of it. I will definitely try to keep putting everything in perspective with the bigger picture. xoxo
I’ve got a lovely Victorian diamond ring. Really need to look into it, from the 1800,s. It Belonged to a great aunt or something. It has lovely big diamonds!
I just started collecting mourning jewelry and stumbled upon your videos, very informative and you have a great way of presenting the information, looking forward to exploring your other videos! Greetings from The Netherlands!
Hello from Russia! Thank you for you video, it's really informative and interesting. It helped me with my university project. Your videos are the best ones about jewelry history on RUclips. Best wishes:)
This video series is BRILLIANT! And by brilliant I mean as outstanding to have me write my first ever comment on RUclips. You deserve so much more views and subscribers! Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge, please keep going just like this!
Thank you Eugene. I will think about more videos. Meanwhile here is the whole playlist on the different periods of jewelry ruclips.net/p/PLCpPkr1c-caju9rMhsI_8VNpsY-s8nBvU
I'm new to your channel, and I was disappointed that you weren't showing examples of the jewelry. Honestly though, the presentation was fascinating, and informative. Now I am going to check out some of your other stuff!
Very informative video. I have a cuff made from a piece of Victorian repousse silver, the detail is incredible. The pattern is cherry twigs and blossoms, everything done by hand, and I adore it!
Great video. Very informative. I do think we should all say "No!!!" to smaller rings, however. IMHO, more is more, and the bigger the bling the better!! 😁👍💖💍💍
Funny how when women's hair got shorter in the Victorian era, the earrings got smaller, but in the 1920's, with the flappers and their short bobs, the earrings got longer. Just goes to show how perspectives change where style and fashion are concerned and the cyclical nature of it all.
I can’t wait to hit the button to watch your videos ,you are truly so informative and soft spoken ,very knowledgeable ,I am really enjoying learning about these things ,Victorian Jewelry is something I really didn’t know much about until now ,I did read somewhere that prior to “The Diamond Engagement Ring” becoming the go to piece of jewelry to offer someone for engagement ,jewelry was only worn by Royalty and was also worn at night time because it was considered vulgar to wear such jewels during the day time ,I am sure you have heard this as well ,I am truly not sure how very true this is ,however still very interesting ,prior to the 1930’s I also read that a diamond was not offered as a form of engagement ,”A Diamond Is Forever” was started by the Debeers Corp. and oh what a successful campaign it turned out to be , today people seem to frown upon an engagement without a diamond ,thank you for sharing all of your knowledge with us Jill I am truly enjoying each and every video ! So fascinating ! Xo
Lisa, I'm so happy you are enjoying my videos!I could swear that I did a whole video on the history of wedding rings and when diamonds came into play. I remember doing the video at some point in the past! Now I can't find i anywhere! DeBeers is absolutely the reason that we associate diamonds with engagement rings, and it didn't happen until the 20th century. Maybe I'll plan to do a new video on this topic. Thank you!! xoxo
Jill Maurer I will go back and see if I can find that video but I definitely think it would be a great topic to talk about ,so many people are unaware on the truth about diamonds ,that they truly are not rare at all ,their value does not increase over time ,most people usually find out the truth about diamonds when they are put in the position to ever have to sell it ,you will never get back what you invested in that diamond. I loved this video in particular because I’ve never learned anything about Victorian jewelry ! Looking forward to more ! Xo
Hello! This is my second time watching this! You mentioned that it's pretty easy to find Victorian Jewelry. How do I find some that are genuine antique from that time period? I'm hoping to find some!
I found a blue enamel victorian locket in the hills around my house, where an old flume trail was and where the rich used to take boat rides down the hill. been wondering who I could show it to, to get some info. It had dried purple make up inside and is silver on the edges I'm pretty sure
I learned so much I wear and collect from the aesthetic or late Victorian period. Is there a reason the motifs are bamboo, birds, bulrushes and cranes? Great necklace by the way. It’s my favorite of your jewelry designs
Thank you Leslie! Those motifs were oriental themes popular in Victorian art and literature. Victorians loved travel and anything they perceived to be exotic.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge about the history of Victorian period. Oh that’s so tragic for Queen Victoria when her both parents died at the same year. It’s amazing to know all these things. Now I remember my mom used to have her beautiful Victorian jewelries when I was young. I used to wear her Victorian necklace with locket pendant when I’m going through her jewelries. Thanks so much for sharing this, it just reminded me of my great childhood memories. ❤️
Jill Maurer oh my that must be tough. 💔 I didn’t know about this Victorian jewelries until you shared this video today. Thanks so much. Keep it coming. I’m learning so much from your channel! 💖💖💖
The Sapphire with Diamond surround brooch Queen Victoria wore on her wedding day was given to her by Albert, (not King George) as a wedding present the night before, as written in her diary. Not knowing this or mentioning her snake wedding ring when on the topic makes me question everything you claim to know.
Thank you. Eichler did build stunning homes! My home is from the same time period and was designed by an architect as his personal residence. It's a wonderful place to live! xoxo

Victorian jewelry is my favorite. I particularly like the mourning jewelry
The mourning jewelry fascinates me. It is a practice we totally fell out of which makes it even more mystical.
Yes I bought several pieces over the years but I'm scared to wear them because they are kind of creepy. Especially the ones with human hair.

Can you please help me identify a gorgeous 18k necklace and pendant? I think the stone may be citrine? Gorgeous
Your necklace sounds lovely. It's difficult to identify jewelry through photos alone so the best thing is to take it to someone in person. xoxo
Beautifully described ❤️
