What I dont get is: the cheaper Novation Midi Keyboards (like the Launchkey) have a function ("Sclae Chord"), that when you select a Scale (which you can also do on the SLMK3) they automatically put the main chords (i, ii, iii, IV, V, vi, vii) and even the 7ths and 9ths on the pads, so you can easily try out chord progressions and record them. I really dont know why they didn't add that on the biggest KB of their product line, since it seems like its only a matter of software not additional hardware requirements. I wrote that to them 2 years ago but it seems nobody cares and not much people ask for this super helpful feature.
Thumbs up and thanks for this - it's a great tip. One BIG question, however: Now that I have some chords saved to the pads, how can I use the pads to PLAY those chords WHILE I am jamming some lead with my right hand at the same time? Every time I touch a key while holding down a pad to play the chord I have saved to it, it ADDS that note to the chord. Is there a way I can save my chords to some pads, then LOCK that in, and have the keyboard to play on while I trigger the pads with my left hand?? Please tell me there is... :o)
Maybe you already figure this out but basically lock in the chords in one "Zone" and then jam with you right hand in another zone. You don't have to split the keyboard into zones for this, either; while in step mode map your chords to the blue/zone1 pads and then hit the button just above the pads to change over to the yellow/zone2 pads and voila; chords on the pads and jamming with the right hand without adding to the chords! I figured this out, now I just need to figure out how to add a bit of humanity to the velocity and timing of the chords. I wish there was a way to use the velocity you hit the pads with to affect the chord you are playing.
This video is great! Thank you for creating it. Everything about this keyboard is great but it really is so odd that Novation did not add the Chord Mode from the Launchkey in the SL MK3, since it is supposed to be the next level. You would think they would carry on that feature. Would you happen to know if it will be added in a firmware update?? Thanks again!
Ok, I have a disability and I’m looking for something allows me play chords with one finger and at the same time play the single notes. Can I do that? Also what is the difference between this and no SL model? What differences are between SL model and regular model about chords? Can I play this keyboard directly connecting that at my amply? Or I need in both cases to use the computer? Consider I’m trombone player and I need that cause my school requires piano knowledge and with the teacher we are working out on those difficulties, so this is not my branch and I have to learn by point 0 about all.
Thank you!! Keybed feels great! The Launchkey keybed feels good as well. If you do not need CV out and other I/O for external hardware / modular units, the Launchkey should work well too!

Yeah.. can't believe no comments on this video! This is a great idea to help build chords and not have to play them one at a time. Thx for sharing!

Awesomeness will be doing this
Does the SLmk3 output midi chord notes? Probably a silly question but the Arturia minifreak doesn't
Great Info ℹ️ Thanks for this 👌🏾

Will it register in the DAW as a full chord being played or just a singular note?
Full chord
@@82infinity thanks you!
Woow appreciate you thank you for this

You can! Play the chords on the pads and then the single notes on the keys, just do multiple passes when making your tracks!
No Comments? Great video! How is the keybed? I love the chord feature
but I am also considering the cheaper non SL model. Thank you

@@82infinity The SL custom chord function with highlighted
selected chord keys may be worth the $350 extra. No guessing!
Thank youuuuu
Thank's a lot ;-)
No probs! :)
How many chords can you get with this method? About to pick this up tomorrow probably. Let me know if you end up seeing this. Thanks!
