*I HAVE TO INTERVIEW A LOT OF AMERICANS* as part of my job - they are NOT as happy and optimistic as they appear - there is a very corrosive toxic positivity, IF you do not exude positivity you are shunned, looked down upon, and criticised.
Most Americans are happy and optimistic, because that is the socially demanded state an American has to be in. For many, it's actually incredibly stressful to keep this front up.
Being a Finn, I have often thought that superficiality, hiding real thoughts of Americans and I am thinking your analysis is spot on. They are loudmouths too. It is all their competitive society. Possibility to get filthy rich is the easiest, but same time what about happiness? No real safety nets, except I guess family in case of sickness or other trouble.
@@jarmosalonen2068 I'm an author on psychology, primarily on narcissism. I have an online help program which is completely free, I've had about 1600 people use the program over the last five years. About 1000 have been American, so I have talked to a LOT of Americans about their mental health.
Americans are expected to be positive outgoing and happy in the same way Japanese are expected to be polite. Many abuse victims who become withdrawn and don't go out very often, one of the big barriers to going out is that need to be a happy positive person.
I suspect this is contributing to America's inability to recover as well from the lockdowns of the pandemic. Americans that I deal with deeply feel they're just not allowed to be themselves, they have to be the perfect person in public.
exactly this - it's not real optimism, it's narcissism. Narcissistic psychopaths cannot admit any faults. They see any faults as "failure". Being sick is "a weakness". Asking for help is "A weakness" and so on.
@@papalaz4444244 Well I would not want to go as far as to say ALL Americans are narcissists. But 1000 out of 1600 people on my program were American and it was open to the entire English-speaking world free of charge... LOL

America... great to visit....but it's so nice when the plane touches down in England and you realise you're home 😎
I count myself lucky that I'm English and not American, I'd hate to live there.
In Scotland, I go to university for free, I get free healthcare, I get free prescriptions, I get free dental care until the age of 26, I get free bus and tram travel between the ages of 5 and 21, and for over 60 year olds. I get free period products, I get free eye examinations, I get free flu vaccinations, free school meals for children between 5 and 10 in state (public) school, and I even get a box full of all the essentials a baby would need for the first 6 months of their life for free.
Were you born in Scotland?
Yes, these are things that I, specifically, am entitled to due to the fact I was born in Scotland. However, almost all of these are also given to people who have lived in the country for a certain amount of time.
@@h-Qalziel that is excellent, well done Scotland, does the same apply to the rest of the UK?
@@smiley9872 Unfortunately not. The rest of the UK just has free healthcare, free flu vaccines, free public transport for over 60 year olds, and free state school meals.

McDonald's drink sizes and costs in the UK.
The larger the drink, the more expensive.
We don't have kids size soda, kids drinks are milk, orange juice, fruit squash or water
In NL kids drink soda too. But apparently it was a bit uncommon as in Germany a waiter refused to give my 10 year old a coca cola. I was flabbergasted. First of all because I could not fathom what was wrong with it, and second of all the waiter having the audicaty to override my parental authority.
@@ronaldderooij1774 A restaurant is a private establishment, so it can apply its own rules within the law, whatever your opinions might be.
@@allenwilliams1306 yeah, but Germany has always had a weird relationship with soda and soft drinks. But you have to admit there's a clear line from which a restaurant can intervene in your choices as a parent. If your kid is trashing the place, sure you're in the right place to say something. But being pissed because you'd like to buy your kid a Fanta? That would be enough reason in Belgium to never go back to the place.
You can get handguns in the UK, the loophole is that if you add a stock and lengthened barrel to one, it becomes classed as a carbine and is totally legal. In Northern Ireland you can just have a handgun without having to do that. The process for getting a firearm in the first place however is strict and rigorous. You must have a reason to own one, eg. sport, hunting etc. You won't be allowed to have one if you just say 'i want one' Then you need 2 people (That aren't your family) to write references on whether they think you should be allowed a gun. Then there is an interview with the police, they do background checks. Then someone will visit your home to make sure you have a proper set up with a safe. The firearm and its ammunition must be stored separately. You have to renew your licence by repeating the process every 5 years. The process from start to finish can take a few months.
In the UK we also understand that not all offences are deliberate. My brother was getting his gun cabinet checked when he applied for a licence and the police took his shotgun into safe custody as he had made the mistake of purchasing it before obtaining the licence. It was returned after the licence was granted
Here in Bulgaria, it's easier to get a gun than a Sim card for a mobile phone. But no one does it's just considered completely socially unacceptable to have a gun unless you are say a security guard doing nightshift picking up cash from grocery stores.
I'm British, when I moved here, 15 years ago, I bought a gun, just because I could and all my Bulgarian friends immediately disowned me.
We say here that America is the only country in the world that has a bible in one hand and a gun in the other
Straight to the point 😂👍
Our neighbours are American. Been here in NZ for eight months. Already great family friends.
Their initial couple of months were both comically funny and not quite heart wrenchingly sad. Once they finally started to adapt to the Kiwi way of life and could relax (be the people they should have been allowed to become in their own nation) it was a joy to watch their growth unfold.
OH thats so nice. I always say that the American people are in an abusive relationship with their country, and their government.
Even the worst, right wingers, generally speaking, just want the decent basics of life, and they are deprived them. Which radicalises them.
I can't understand why the American people don't demand a ban on all guns.
Same as nationalised health care. Too many people make too much money out of it with back handers to the politicians.
Or perhaps the American people enjoy the adrenaline rush of possibly being shot each day.@@melvincain5012
Corruption and the political system, majority opinion comes second.
Because Americans live in a bubble there Education is useless only taught there history they haven't got a clue and most of all they have the right to bare arms no matter who it effects. O and they only know london lol..
I think it's too far gone tbh. More guns than people.
They will never end their gun problem, as many don't think they even have one 🙄

*HERE IN BULGARIA* you get 2 years paid maternity/paternity leave if you have a kid.
Also they deliver hot food to your door every morning for your child until it goes to school - then it gets free school meals. Many schools have dorms the kids can stay over 2 nights a week to give the parents a rest. NO ONE pays for child care here - the old people look after the children if you both work, but most families can live on just one salary cos housing is so cheap.
I think Americans get a bad deal tbh.
Everything from birth to retirement, costs them a fortune.
And the bit in-between isn't cheap either.
Funnily enough I was just speaking to an American who says his parents aged 75 and 78, are having to get jobs again just to get by. No state pension over there.
I am not surprised you were muted at the end, there is nothing to say really!

We pay taxes but they are way lower than US insurance prices
If a stereotype is true, it´s a fact, not a stereotype anymore.
An analogy that I've used before is that if the US was a horse, then it would be a horse with torsion of the bowel. The problem is that, considering it is a worldwide phenomenon that seems intrinsic to human nature, especially at the moment, the US is becoming less distinctive in it's problems. The problem is, trying to impress the need for calm upon intense chaos only seems to ramp up the chaos. Anthropochaotic only seems to brew Anthropochaotic and as The Stones once wrote, that generals rode the tanks and the bodies stank. I think it must be very rare for the people who created the stink to have to bury the dead. If they had to do all that, rather than the grieving families, they may find it a little more difficult to dehumanize the living? Those who revel in it are too far gone into insanity. With diseased minds as those, there is no remorse, no compassion. Compassion needs reigniting. A species that sees the combative as normal, isn't a species that sees a future. It becomes a death cult.
Your mic cut off at the end but you were smiling so it must have been good.
I would love to see some video about the fact that in the US its totally legal to marry a child in many states.
No it isn't. Only five states (California, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Washington) have no minimum age for marriage. Even then, there are legal restrictions. It isn't a free-for-all. As far as I am concerned (being from the UK) the age at which someone ceases to be a “child” is 14 [Children and Young Persons Act 1933]. One is still a “minor” until 18, but that is a different distinction.
@@allenwilliams1306 equalitynow writes: "child marriage is currently legal in 41states (only Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont have set the minimum age at 18 and eliminated all exceptions), and 20 U.S. states do not require any minimum age for marriage, with a parental or judicial waiver."
@@friedrichjunzt I see. As I thought. You are deliberately misusing the word “child” for emotive effect.
@@allenwilliams1306 In America you're a child and minor if you're under 18. "No minimum age" means that there's no low limit even under 18, and that's in 20 states. They are children, what are you on about?
@@peacefulminimalist2028 In the UK, and most civilized countries, we do not consider adolescents children. They start changing into adults, and well before they reach 18, they become fully sexually functional and capable of having children of their own. A large proportion of them do have sexual intercourse and ignore the arbitrary age limit of 16 imposed by law. If they get caught, they get told off usually. They don't get caught by the police, who aren't interested in young persons having sex with each other as long as they are discreet about it.
You can't treat these people as children. In practice, in England and Wales, very few of them actually want to get married before they are 18, which is now the legal age for marriage, but hardly any of them will still be virgins at that age: many will have boyfriend/girlfriend relationships, having had frequent but exclusive sex together for several years, and not in secret, either. Everybody knows this, and accepts it as perfectly natural and proper. In my view, in rare cases, marriage might be appropriate, and I see no reason why persons aged 15 or over should be legally prevented from marrying if that is what they want. The age limit used to be 16, and the reason why it was put up to 18 was not stupid people clamouring for the “protection of children”, but because most of the 16 and 17 year olds who got married were girls who came from a particular minority cultural background where early and arranged marriages were the norm, and research was done which found rather too much persuasion was frequently applied to these girls to be married than was desirable. Rather than tackle it by laws directed to the practice, the government decided to put marriage age up generally on the basis that nobody else would complain in any number since, as I said, very few young persons actually want to get married young. In Scotland and Northern Ireland, you can still get married at 16. in NI, permission of one parent or a court order is required. Neither is required in Scotland.
Young people are encouraged to engage in safe sex, and free contraception is available to them at NHS clinics and from their family doctors. This is at any age, and is confidential: parents are not informed unless there is no alternative in the case of a serious threat to the patient's health or that of others. Everyone knows about this and there are no protests.
Nobody yaps on about “child protection” if talking about teenagers. It is plain that they are not children. If you started treating those, say, 14+ as if they were children, or even referring to them as children you'd just be making trouble for yourself. Children are harmless. Young persons are not. As I said previously, we recognized this in law 90 years ago. Why are you lot so backward?
2:08 - "You guys"? Which of the 50 countries are you talking about?
Just the male members lol
When I went University in the 1970s in the UK it was free and they paid you a weekly 'wage' for living expenses
But only 14% went to university then vs 38% now.
@@seancurran8108 yeah, and “God knows why”. Lots of “degrees” are vocational, and should actually not be university courses at all. Because they are solely related to work, employers ought to have their own colleges (which they would completely fund) to train those wishing to pursue those occupations.

George Carlin - 'That's why they call it the American Dream, because you have to be asleep to believe it.'

Hey, we Europeans are happy, we're just not optimistic lol., but I get a sense that it's because it's more grounded in reality of how things are then anything else, whereas in the US, Americans tend to see things how they want things to be, especially about their own country and not seeing things how they are.
European countries are usually voted as some of the happiest around the world, but you wouldn't think so because we tend to be low beat about it, the US is like the other way around, very optimistic about things, even thought there are a lot of things that are messed up in the country and there's nothing wrong with being optimistic, as long as it's grounded in reality, which I feel a lot of the times it's not in the US and it reminds me of the fake smiles that's been conditioned, you know it's fake because too many do it to too many strangers, which isn't how humans are, and I feel that being too optimistic is part of that conditioning, which means nothing in the real world where people just want to feel secure, with a good quality of living.
Your name is Connor? Are you the android sent by CyberLife?
Your comment at the end was especially poignant.

I have a question for American ?
In France, Mcdonalds is expensive
So what about the basic menu with Bigmack+coca+french fries & a sundae?
I have a fully automatic AK4 (our version of the G3) in my house. The active parts are in a class 3 safe weighing over 180kg's as is required and the ammunition is stored in a class 2 safe, the rest of the gun is on a class 2 lock on a wall bolted into concrete without means to remove it because it's bolted into the steel rail that makes up the foundational carrier of my house. If I didn't have steel carriers I would need a third safe.
But yes, I have a fully automatic 7.62x51 NATO rifle at my house and I'm allowed to have that because I've passed all security checks (I'm ex Airborne Ranger that had psychological assessments for over a decade) and it was in line with my use.
I also have shotguns and hunting rifles that I use for other things than hunting fascists when called upon to do so.
The US idea is, "leave your firearms lying around loaded so kids can shoot each other with them or so they are easily stolen?
Here's a clue to how this works, if a firearm in the US is used for ANY criminal activity, it's classified as an Illegal firearm. 100% of the statistics are lying to you. 200 000 legally purchased firearms are stolen every year and those are never counted as legally purchased firearms when used to commit a crime.
Gotta love NRA statistics, it's whatever the fuck they can make up.
And yes, this is a subject that pisses me off because a friend of mine that served under my command in Bosnia was killed in Dallas because someone thought the fucking gas handle resembled a shotgun and so he was shot to death and the killer cleared of any wrongdoing.
Fucking VOTE as if your life depends on it because it just might.
As a Brit I know the AR-15 is a slightly inferior M16 with no full automatic trigger. Call yourself an American!
I'm sure an an American will correct me on some detail.
You mentioned that people smoke way more here in europe but are way more in shape
Actually smoking is kinda beneficial to stay in shape, even though that is not the real cultural difference that affects obesity rates. But nicotine increases the metabolism by about 100-200 kcal a day and it also reduces appetite
Hi. This is a general rant against YTs who compare the US to Europe, and not against your reaction to these types of videos. Once again, Europe is a continent and not a country and so you can’t compare 50 or so countries to one country. Also Europe does not have a flag, that is the flag of the EU, a member organisation not a country or a continent. It only contains 27 countries who are European before they join the EU, European while they are members and European after they leave, so again not comparable to one country. Saying that the US is large and has a large population does not change the fact that it is one country and cannot be compared to many countries with separate governments and political systems and peoples and history and languages and cultures. Also this is just the same age group reacting. Where is the different perspective? Sorry I know that wasn’t really a comment about your reaction video which was good.
No, it not free to go to University College in Denmark, you actually get paid up-to around $850 a month to study, so that you can focus more on your studying.
I study Computer Science in Germany and I pay around 150 Euros each semester but that depends on the University.
This covers things like bureaucracy, unlimited public transportation within the city, printing fees, etc.
The education on it's own is free though.
The 150 Euros are not tuitionb, but student body (ASTA) membership fees in a small inscription fee.
@@bluebear6570 that's what i said. Education on it's own is free but you still gotta pay a little
Americans have a higher obesity rate than Europe because American portions (especially from fast food outlets) are absolutely massive. In Europe we have strict rules governing foodstuffs but American rules are much more lenient and geared towards speed of food preparation (ie. tinned cheese & squeezy butter) and the amount of added sugar making produce addictive. American food is smothered in chemicals - even eggs & chicken and that's strictly forbidden in most of Europe. A few Americans I've worked with say they feel healthier living in the UK & have put it down to diet. The US Government needs to address that.
What you said at the end….. I totally agree 🫤
Re flags: the Saudi Arabian is very nice, and it tells about the country. But it is difficult to reproduce for small children. The American flag is easier and can teach the children to count and be accurate (correct number of stars and stripes 😊). And the South African flag says "we have many shapes and colours, but we're one country (and we hope they'll be right 🙃)
Yes, in Denmark studying at university is free. And you get an amount every month so you only need a part time study related job.
Haven't you seen the street interviews where young Americans don't know how many stars and stripes and what they stand for? 🤣
I have three McDonalds within a mile of my house. The prices have gone up by about 40 in just over a year.
From US media and Hollywood, you get concepts like "fat shaming" and "healthy at all sizes". So I'm surprised the (NYT?) video even mentions obesity as an issue there.^
Really inspiring words at the end there m8...

It is actually very difficult to re-qualify when you are older. You can't longer get that free tuition and there will not be universities wanting to teach you because of that free education BS. You stay willing or go abroad to study or study online.
Having Brits comment on tuition cost is a little ironic. Iirc, they're the only country in the world with higher average tuition costs than the US. Some US colleges will be more extreme but the average is higher in the UK. That said, I have no idea how much of a difference there is between lower and high cost unis in the US.

"handguns" are all guns not mounted to a structure. All rifles are handguns. Pistols are the most common type of handgun though and also the most common type of weapon in mass shootings.
Banning AR-15's would do fuck all. You could just get an AK74 or an AR-10 for range, in fact there is a sheitload of rifles that are equal to an AR-15.
You want to do this properly, start with pistols and semi autos. Only revolvers and bolt action rifles and none of that unless you have a license signed by a third authority where you have completed the tests and been evaluated by law enforcement officers educated to do just that.
