    Just a suggestion to your Sony e-mount lens: Replace the Sony alpha with the newer 3rd gen or 4th gen to better reflect on autofocus speed test. Best would be a7R4. You have the best AF, and ability to crop to about 26MP aps-c mode. This is better than using a5100 as a test for crop camera image.

    The ability to quickly switch to manual focus and having the manual focus be mechanical is what makes the Sony G worth it if you're going to shoot macro regularly and have the extra cash. My only complaints about it are the amount of focus breathing (which might be inevitable, but isn't ideal for stacking focus) and shorter focal length. I shoot insects a lot and would love something like a 135mm macro for it so I don't spook them...

    • @Shadow81989
      @Shadow81989 4 года назад

      I forget if it was Sigma or Tamron, but one of them used to make a 180mm macro lens, which I almost decided to get (for the exact same reason that you want that 135mm macro). I'm afraid they stopped making it though, but I still somewhat hope for an updated/new version of it.

    I guess you meant to say pin cushion distortion?

    • @Shadow81989
      @Shadow81989 4 года назад +2

      Came here to say exactly that - but then again it's so little distortion, that it doesn't even really matter which of the two it is ;-)

      Oops, did I say barrel distortion? Sorry, yes, it is pincushion distortion (second time I've mixed those two up, what's wrong with me hehe)

    Great review as usual, Chris. That said, next time you're talking to Sigma, please encourage them to start releasing lenses like this for the RF mount. I love my EOS R, but I am not as enamored with Canon's lens pricing. It sure would be nice to have some third-party optics to choose from, especially ones made by Sigma. :-)

      Don't worry, I think they already know that everyone wants these lenses on RF and Z mount cameras, too :-) my guess is that it's just a question of manufacturing capacity, and getting the autofocus algorithms sorted out etc (that's just my guess, though)

      @@christopherfrost Thank you for the reply. You know, this raises another interesting topic for potential discussion. As a long time Olympus, and Canon user, I naturally have observations about both systems, many positive and some not so positive. While people are always arguing the technical aspects of various cameras/lenses/systems, what is often missed is the relative financial considerations. I think, Canon, Olympus, Nikon, Pentax, Fuji, etc. probably all make superb equipment for the most part, along with the occasional "dog," but it would be very interesting to compare systems in terms of total cost of ownership--average lens price, maintenance costs, etc. While a camera body and a kit lens can be enough to lure you in, what may not be obvious is how expensive a particular brand can be as you seek to flush out your camera bag with the items you need to get the shots you want. Let's face it, if you're buying a camera with an interchangeable lens mount, it isn't because you plan to never use more than one lens. Over the years, I've found my Olympus System to be generally good value for the money. I've been able to afford professional spec'd optics, and get long and reliable service from everything. After buying the Canon EOR R, with the 24-105 f/4L, I have looked at other RF mount lenses, but to date, I have avoided buying any due to their remarkably serious price points, and weight penalties. Anyway, it would be interesting to see how systems compare in terms of price when, say, a body, wide zoom, standard zoom, and long lens are thrown in for consideration. This could be done in two parts--at the consumer level, and at the serious level. Just a thought, and thanks again for the excellent videos.

    Can you do a video where in you review the autofocus of sony 18-105mm with a6000 with sports outdoors. Like how it would track the subject moving side to side. I really would like to know how the autofocus performs.

    A very good price for a lens like this in my opinion. The 90mm macro from Sony on the other hand has also OSS, but is also more expensive - the real question is if the higher price also shows in its features (it actually still has a mechanical manual focus - so good for macro!) and image quality.

      The Sony lens's focus is not actually mechanical (although it does look like it) - check out my review :-)

      That's a manual focus lens. The issue comes in getting the autofocus working correctly

    Sigma 180mm f / 3.5 EX APO DG HSM Macro or Sigma 150mm f / 2.8 APO EX DG HSM Macro? which is better?

    The Sony's hard to beat, with OSS, MF clutch and shorter focal length for general purpose shooting at not much higher or even lower price if you know where to look, the Sigma would not have the advantage as it does on L mount.
