These clips are from BBC 'Top Gear'. It's basically a comedy show based very loosely around cars. It was a huge hit all around the world, and with a quarter of a billion people tuning-in every week was pretty much the most watched TV show in history. It ran for many years with hundreds of episodes, and although it may look like it from this compilation they certainly weren't mocking Americans every week! They did two-hour specials where they visited all manner of countries. They're excellent and very funny - well worth a look.
It say it was more than “loosely” centred around cars. The whole dynamic of the show is cars and the humour and camaraderie between the trio.
When Top Gear started and during my youth it was a car show, but it morphed into a show that became the chsracters in the starring roles but it still did pieces on cars. Clarkson went on to have a talk show for a few years of his own as well. The Grand Tour is worth a look.
Not the it WAS a huge hit all round the world… well they deffo cried after all that lost revenue 😂 clarkson may be a bit of an arse sometimes but no denying he and Hammond and may deffo gave the bbc a large chunk of money from that show
Hi James i'm British, don't feel bad Clarkson takes the piss out of everyone on planet earth including the British, and deep down I think he loves America really he constantly plays pranks on both his co-stars it's just the way he is.

I tell this to all my American friends (and then-girlfriend). If anybody from the United Kingdom makes fun of you or your country… take it as a compliment, because it means they like and respect you.
We generally only “take the piss” out of people and things we like, including ourselves, self deprivation is a British skill.
Jeremy makes fun of pretty much every nation (including the UK itself) but he definitely has a love/hate relationship with the US. But it’s all in good spirited humour.
Indeed. Belgian here, we do the same and are subjetc to the same 'teasing' with our English, French, Dutch, German, Luxembourg neighbors and vice versa. fair enough for us, we have a sense of humor, different, but real!

About 15 years ago I was flying back to the UK from the US .with my adult family , I was carrying a large star telescope in a long box ,when I was approached by security asking me to open up the box to make sure I was not carrying a missile launcher ,I thought it was very funny ,but I don’t think they thought so 😂😂

I have to say that you're a great sport to have reacted with such good grace to our Jeremy Clarkson's outrageous and merciless comedy comments about the U.S. I know Jeremy well and like him enormously but while you were laughing along, I was sometimes wincing with embarrassment. One of my best mates is from Florida, out of New Orleans and i wouldnt dare show him this video. Bravo sir.

He’s right about American immigration people. My husband was working there for 3 months and I went for a holiday. I was grilled like a kipper! When I said I would be staying with my husband who was working in the USA for 3 months he yelled at me ‘can’t an American do his job’! I was amazed to be let in!

Ok so Jeremy Clarkson tore the A out of all Americans but I think you may like his documentary called the greatest raid,and the Victoria cross winners, basically America’s equivalent of the medal of honour

Tbh, as much as he makes fun of America, he spent a lot of time filming over there for his two car shows. In top gear, he filmed in America for episodes in seasons: 9, 12, 13, 16, 17, 18 and 19. In his other car show, the grand tour he did seven episodes In the US, across the first 3 seasons.
And Americans wonder why we make fun of them.

When the French captured English longbowmen they would cut off those 2 fingers so they could never fire arrows again. Before the battle the ranks of English and Welsh archers lined up and showed the French they still had their fingers before they proceeded to annihilate them. Our peace sign is the other way round.

And gasoline is more accurate. Petrol, which we call it, is short for petroleum, which gasoline is derived from.
But you don't put gasoline in a car mate.

He's the same with everyone who isn't Jeremy Clarkson.
Clarkson is a bit like a posh Al Murray, though with Al Murray it's all an act, whilst I think Clarkson might be a bit more like this in real life, though he's definitely playing on it. Like Al Murray, he's also a lot smarter than people give him credit for. The schtick of Clarkson, Hammond and May (former Top Gear presenters) is to be loveable dickheads.

”Gas” is short for ”gasoline” by the way, wich works as a fuel at the differens from petroleum that has to be refined before it can be used as fuel… and wich is what the brittish has shortend to ”petrol”
