- I allow myself to make one extremely dumb purchase a year, and I decided I would buy a $3000 bottle of liquor. In this video, I will be taste testing and reviewing the Louis XIII Cognac Bottle. Reviewing with me is my Uncle Binh Nguyen from Food Addiction TV. If you enjoy this video, please leave a like and subscribe to my RUclips channel. I know it has been 3 years since my last video, but I seriously plan on doing more with the channel in the near future. Thanks for watching :)

Believe it or not, I actually bought a $2500 slab of Japanese A5 Miyazaki Wagyu Prime Rib. I filmed it last year as my stupid purchase, but the footage was out of focus and unusable. I plan on buying another slab and redoing the video. Be on the look out for that video. Thanks for watching this video!
That sounds amazing though
There is nothing to be ashamed that isht is bomb!!!
Thousands of bucks of disposable income
No photography skills whatsorver😂
all buy of china is fake wake up dude same with turkey
You can tell dude in blue wishes he didn't buy it lol
☝️🤓🤦♂️😂......I'm doing this too 💯
Yup...lol
Get Don Julio 1942. Wont be disappointed.
I gave him a like because I felt so bad for him. lol. Hope it helps to monetize it for him. lol.
If you have money to buy stupid things like he said sure he wasn't hurting from buying it.
Thanks for this video. I'm tired of watching reviews by professionals, I appreciate a sincere review by a non-regular consumer.
Thank you for the kind words ☺️
Brian Tan loved the video, and i subscribed. Where did you buy it? I looked online and could not find it...a link would be really helpful...cheers!
Yes very refreshing. Please upload next year's cRaZY purchase .. Take care fellas ...
Can you name some professional brandy/cognac review channels?
@@thehonesttruth8808 I totally agree this is such a great video, honest reviews are the best!
“One stupid purchase a year.” Had me dying. Take my subscription
Damn, this man bought a 3k bottle and was brutally honest about it and had buyers remorse, for his brutal honestly alone, I have to give you credit and subscribe, its something I've always wanted to try but now, will never buy and two, the balls to open it and test it for us, I would have felt the same way, damn, do I open it??? Haha... you have my respect and I never subscribe but for you, I did my first subscribe! I know its a lot of money, but thank you for sharing with us and you saved some of us 3k or more, thank you for the honest video.
That's why this is a GREAT review to me. Haha
Lol. A liked the guys review. It was honest. But that won’t stop me from buying and sharing with my brother
Damn his face after he took the first sip…🫠 he completely regretted that
This guy just asked if you should drink a $3000 cognac on ice. I would have kicked him out of my house immediately.
Lmfao
dude kept saying "it smells really good!"...i mean duh!?!?!
You can tell his broke by asking that!
Right smh
Lol 😂, bro wasn't thinking of da price, he was gone treat that like a regular bottle of remy martin vs....
We used to sell this for $150 a shot, but we bought it whole sale at $1700. Needless to say no one ever bought it.
That’s like 10-12 shots payed for
I feel like I’m watching two classmates presenting a $3000 book report in front of the class
damn 3 grand but its ok. When you are old and look back, memory is what you will have and this you will remember back on and laugh.
Spend money on memories, don't fret.
Well said. Not to mention they have a nice decanter they can keep or sell on ebay for a couple hundred bucks lol
50 years ago, this bottle cost well less than 100 bucks. It has appreciated in value similar to a Rolex.
You confirmed what I have suspected. The bottle and packaging is totally what you are paying for. About a decade ago I paid $300 for a bottle of Remy Martin XO in a very nice bottle. My friends and I had a very sophisticated evening drinking it. I really didn't feel that it was all that different from any inexpensive Cognac. It crosses my mind now, that if I bought a cheaper bottle of Cognac and filled the XO bottle with it, everyone (that I know) would be convinced that it's the real thing. That's what you should do when you finish the Cognac in that beautiful bottle. Just get a much cheaper bottle of Remy Martin and refill the bottle. You will continue to impress friends and family and eventually feel that you got your money's worth. Thanks for this extremely honest review!
For XO cognac, try the Hennessey XO, IMHO it tastes better than the Remy or Courvoisier XOs (but also pricier).
That empty bottle alone is at least $500 or more...👍
I would sell it & atleast get some of my money back from it 😂
"I'd rather drink dr pepper" lmao I feel that
Snow he could ADD in Dr. PEPPER.
HA! Love it ;)
Big Red😎😎
That’s a great deal! I just paid $3850 after tax! And it didn’t even have the outside suitcase. It was the last one on display inside a glass case at Costco 🤦♂️but mine says 100 years
Was it black? Because for 3850 you stole it
This was actually a really good video, no editing, non bias review, funny guys, great chemisty, both seem drunk which is hilarious
I had a few shots of this stuff at my girlfriends uncles Christmas house party. They had no idea how much the bottle cost and they were shocked when I told them. It was good, but nothing crazy. I’ve seen shots of this stuff go for $350 at luxury hotels/bars. Thank you for a casual review, it was very entertaining lol.
You did SHOTS of the world's most expensive cognac?!
@@wll1500 You actually drank something that was meant to be drunk!
@@Sytphc179 that's about equivalent to off-roading a Lamborghini
Expensive Cognac is like Expensive Parfum for women. To truly enjoy a masterpiece you have to really appreciate the inherent value and craftsmanship of artwork and product.
I wouldn’t buy the whole bottle but I would buy a glass on a most special occasion and one for my significant other. But I heard the bottle by itself has considerable resale value. You guys are the first I’ve heard who weren’t blown away by the taste. I would definitely like to try this one day, just on the strength of the sheer experience of doing so. Glad you guys had the opportunity. Cheers!
Tbh I weren't 'blown away' by it either, sure its far less harsh than the standard VSOP level but I'd say the Richard Hennessy for similar price is a better drink, for more dynamic, if anything this is a bit flat but who cares just enjoy what you enjoy init.
I did the same thing and by far, I prefer my Hennessy XO for $200 rather than a $3k bottle
I'm watching the video from a country where alcohol is illegal but I enjoyed it 😂😂
Keep it up guys !

I tried some XIII and was just blown away by how good it was. Price point is terrible but it is what it is. Appreciate the honesty.

bottle made of baccarat, 24k gold on top. what do you expect? more than 40 years old cognac. $3000 is really worth it. especially for decor.
23 seconds in & I’m already enjoying myself.
I appreciate good ppl and real reviews.
Big ups to you King
Packaging cost is $2800, and cognac is $200
those brandies are aged 50 years plus you dont have a clue what you are takinf about
Daniel Kress how you sure they aged for 50 yrs dumbass. 🤣

50 years ago, this bottle could have been purchased for less than $60 in Canada.
Wow that's pretty cheap! It would be like buying it for $425 today :)
@@mikepowell8232 Yes sir! I worked in a large restaurant as a teenager and in those days, the price label was affixed to every bottle, and I remembered seeing a price of $57 for the Louis XIII. This compared with around $10 for a bottle of VSOP, and a bottle of Dom Perignon cost less than than $30.
It seems to me that over time, it's the high end stuff that escalated greatly in price. A new bottle of Louis XIII now retails for about $4,500 in Canada.
@@msbrownbeast wow time does really go by fast, crazy to see this type of things, thanks for sharing 😊
Tried this for my birthday at Ruth Chris and to my it gave me a hint of roses. But I paid $150 for the glass lol
Crazy how they can jack up prices so much

magdalenojuan it was in a glass but it was 1.5 oz lol
@@V3RSATILE86 damm bro. At least you tried it. I'll rather keep buying my bottles of Don Julio 1942 or Dom P.
You probably want it to breath a little longer, Louis 13 is the smoothest thing I ever had with alcohol in it, but is it worth $3000, probably not.
I have had the Louis, and Hennessy XO which are lovely but IMHO the Davidoff VSOP is a superior experience. You're right though...they both drank way too soon!
spangst I’ve never had Davidoff VSOP, based off your comment. Highly recommended??? I’m always looking for new drink to try!
@@BrianTanYT Yes, highly recommended and a fraction of the price...$100 for the VSOP, $300 for the XO both are charming.
@@spangst 50$ for vsop and 120$ for xo,and not even close to be 'superior experience' to Hennessy xo let alone Louis 13...
I like to know where you got the drinking glasses from
The price is crazy as hell, but Remy is still the truth!! Now I haven't spun no bread like that on liquor, but trust me everybody has spun money on something they don't like or is not worth it.
It's a unique cognac! Glad you have had an opportunity to buy and taste it! Just a thought with regards to Remy Martin 1738, which I also have in my bar - one should not drink cognac by shots... It is not tequila.
The law of diminishing returns, my brother. I appreciate your honesty.
“I’d rather drink a glass of Dr. Pepper.”
Bro you’re so real with it! I love that. Honest review, nothing held back.
I’ve had a $650 shot of whiskey and lemme tell ya. It wasn’t worth it haha.
One of the finest drinks in the world ..... but “I’d rather have a glass of Dr Pepper “ 😱😂😂
I looked up Louis xiii cognac on youtube because i saw it on a menu in a restaurant. Good review, guys. It was genuine and sufficiently detailed. Almost tasted the cognac in my mouth...
Now pair it with the most expensive cigar in the world.
with a cohiba behike would be fine
U deserve a million views for this
Had this for my 50th, it’s a special experience, I think there are something like 155 flavour compounds. Pretty complex stuff. Not sure if I could taste the difference between this and an XO.
Now turn that bottle into a molotov cocktail
I've been dying to try some louie. I am a big cognac drinker but this review makes me think it's just not worth it. I've lost the urge. Right now my favorite XO is D'ussey I doubt this one is $3,000 better
Fine cognac deserves to be sipped. Knocking back “shots” is no way to consume such a rich liquor. Let the spirit sit one minute in the glass, after pouring, for each year in the cask. A 40 year old spirit needs a good half hour to fully relax into any glass after nearly half a century sleeping in a warehouse barrel.
Popping it open & doing shots (as if it was Jim Beam) is dishonoring everything special about the rare bottle.
It may NOT be worth $3k but damn, give the liquor a decent chance to develop before you slowly savor the fragrance and sip the pour. Evaluating even drugstore cognac successfully requires that you consume the beverage appropriately.
albert miller spot on!!!
Who are you to tell anyone how to drink.what they own. Fine spirits or bourbon snobs are douche bags. 🖕
Christopher Pate this is literally a bullshit statement to justify the price, there is no way this is even true
@@christopherpate7204 Hey, you can just take it as an advice. You can fully ignore it, or you can learn from it.
It would be interesting to see another tasting video, when the cognac is left for the half an hour to sit and then sip it slowly. And compare.
@@davidshen5742 The price is justified by the age it needed to spent in the barrels. I have never had it and will be a long time before I will (if ever), but I at least try to understand the price behind it. And on that breathing - it is a common knowledge, that such old alcohol should be let to breathe. You can try it yourself. Maybe you won't like it, and it is ok, but you will realize it does change the taste.
I really liked the honesty of your review. Some people pretend they are experts and talk too much. You guys are just two cool buddies who enjoy brandy. Now you own something coveted by so many. Good for you 👍. Don’t regret anything. Just enjoy it, you deserve it.
I never drink cognac but I’m watching this video 😅
I've been drinking it all wrong man.I just drank it straight out of the bottle.Several hours later i'm already off to a new bottle.I do alot of Hennesy VSOP,a habit i picked up from attending Cambodian weddings...🙃
I thought I was watching the movie, “Crazy Rich Asians”.

If somebody tried to throw that bottle away even after its done.I would be digging through the whole garbage to find it lol! Too expensive but atleast you enjoyed it thats all that matters.
Regular everyday reviews are so much better for us... Thanks for the review guys ... I was gonna gift one of these to a friend for Easter, here in Australia generally it's about 5k (Australian dollars) now have an Easter offer of 4300 so thought to check it out...
I had some one time. This girl I was dating invited me over her Uncle's for Christmas. He was drunk and I saw he had this, and I know you don't get if you don't ask, so I hinted, "oh, how does that taste? I heard a lot about how great it was..." and he said "Let's have some!" We went out to the back patio with cigars and our Louis XIII shots. When I was ashing the cigar it fell into the shot glass. I smoothly grabbed his shot glass and annexed that. He went to grab the shot of Louis XIII with the ash in it, held it up to look at it, then shrugged as if to say "well, that's $200 so whatever" and downed it. But it just tasted like every other bottle of Cognac/Brandy/whatever I ever had. Then again, mixing alcohols, smoking cigars, and not knowing what I'm doing probably all had something to do with that. lol.
cant wait to try some day!
Buy a shot at the bar a good bar
John Malkovich made a movie basically promoting this congac and it won't be available to watch until 2115. I'd say imagine how pissed everyone would be but our grandchildren will be like "who the fuck is John Malkovich"
Que bueno tiene estar ese Coñac .
Cuando puedan prueben el Brandy Luis Felipe , o el Brandy Cardenal Mendoza seguro que les gustaran un saludo desde Málaga 😊☺️☺️😊
😅😅 he said it taste like regular alcohol for $3,000.😅😂🎉
The good thing is that you now have the bottle and you can fill it up with cheaper cognac and drink it with class lol
It's worth every penny for the memories you create when drinking it. You'll never forget the experience...
Simon Stepsys That’s pretty much the way I looked at it. Will always be a fun memory. Thanks for the comment! Cheers!
How many people can say they’ve tried it?
Thank you for this. I was gonna make an impulse buy. And you helped
I have an automotive channel. The first time I drove a BMW was in 1990. I drove a 1990 750il. It cost $65,000 back then. A Cadillac 1990 Deville cost about $31,000. The difference was night and day. I ran 145 mph in this 296 hp 5 liter v12 like it was nothing.
I had this a few months ago it goes down smoothly with a warm honey spice and light oak aftertaste. You can now buy a small bottle for 600$ 🇺🇸. I would recommend only if you are into cognac and want something special to sip on
i have the same bottle. well it like chanel and hermes bags, rolex watches. very expensive but it’s all about the brand. They all buy the looks and the brands not the taste. Maybe only pro can tell how good this bottle is.
XO bottles means the youngest blend in the bottle is a minimum of 10y. Not 6.
Recently, it varies. 6 minimum is what we usually see in most classified XO's, but a 10 year minimum is the most common case for more deserving brands.
I tried the Remy Martin XO a while ago, I’m definitely curious to try the King Louis!
I inherited a bottle of Louis XIII but have yet to have the balls to open it. The most expensive bottle I've ever opened and drank is Johnny Walker Blue and I had the same impression you did upon taking my first sip..."tastes like alcohol" 🤣😂 Was definitely underwhelming, not worth the price and, I expect, that Louis XIII would be just about the same experience.
Attended a Louis tasting yesterday and it was magical! Such a beautiful cognac, unlike any other!
New drinking game! Everytime you tense up because he is even a little bit reckless, you take a shot of Louis X111. I call it, "Fuck Money".
Awesome!!! I am a father of 5 and this is outta my pay scale but I'm happy for y'all. Good stuff.🎯💯
Thanku for the honest review mate
One stupid purchase a year ???🤭 With that single purchase, you can scratch that list for the next three years.
Putting aside the luxury of the liquid itself, its box is so nice 💯
Definitely a special occasion drink.. i was buying it for myself for my birthday but I started buying it for my divorce anniversary. I do enjoy a bottle once a year for the last 10 years.. when I first started buying it it was $1200 now in my area it's $3300 and once a year is not bad to splurge
This is the level of success I’d love to reach.
Great review. I appreciate your honesty. I bought a shot for $180 about 4 years ago. It was good. You do have to have a taste for it in order to appreciate it. Thanks again
Your spend more than a Crack head
It's a fine aged cognac. The value is not only in it's taste but in it's rarity, history, age, distillation craftsmanship, quality and the incredible care it went in to produce this. When taking a sip, you must respect and embody all these qualities to truly appreciate it. It's like comparing between a Rolex and Timex, both watches keep good time but one has an intrinsic and timeless quality while the other does not. Cheers.
What is the point of this if the product tastes horrible
its just a drink. thats the sales pitch they pull on suckers that have too much money. the physical appearance of a watch is a very large aspect of the product itself. You cant imitate the look of a rolex without spending the money it takes to make it look that way, and everyone can tell the difference. But liquor? you can for sure imitate the taste. Every watch those wine tasting videos where “experts” cant even tell the difference between $1000 wine and bottom shelf wine?
but hey, its your money you can burn it for all i care
This is the best cognac review I've seen 🤣
Aye I liked and subbed just for the fact that you went and bought it and only had a few hundred subscribers. Cheers bro hopefully this goes viral

can you tell which one is better without looking at the bottle?
Great honest review 🥳🥳thank u for sharing your experience 🥃
A good idea would be to sell the opened bottle for 2,700 😂😂 then you only dropped 300 for it
Good tip about giving the drink 1 minute rest time in a glass for each year it spent in a barrel.
I was drinking a 12 yo bottle of booze yesterday but had to give it a half an hour rest in a glass for the scent of too much alcohol to go away. After 30 mins I could sniff the nice aroma it produced and the drink became much much smoother. So yeah, definitely have got to wait.
I'm surprised they didn't put this info in the instructions on the website on how to drink it, where those guys read it. What a shame!
I bet $100 they both woke up with full beards after them sips

You need to understand the lineage from the Kings. Luis and Richard. That’s what it’s all about. The royal lineage, that’s what makes it so special.
"i'd rather drink a glass of dr pepper". lol! oh the burn.
Probably a bit too rich for my taste but I will be trying the 1738 as I've just been getting into cognac. Is Cognac a popular drink in Vietnam because of the French influence I assume?
Great honest review I love cognac and unfortunately just can’t afford a bottle of this and I’ve always wanted to try it , love the Remy Martin XO love it !! I’m English and in England on Amazon a 35ML bottle of Remy XO is usually £70 (pounds) I think today’s exchange rate is $1.2 US 🇺🇸 to £1 GBP 🇬🇧 so £70 is only maybe $80 if that . I just work a regular job as a Fork lift driver and my salary is only £15-17 per hour I guess I could buy a bottle throughout the year and it would leave me very short for my rent on a 2 bedroom apartment in Liverpool is £650 per month and it’s a nice apartment. I’d be short for groceries and as one of you guys said 3 grand is a hell of a lot of money for just the regular working class guy or gal you could get a used car , have a nice holiday abroad , get a top of the range OLED tv . Clothes etc etc … I can afford the XO and that is not like all the time I like the 1738 and that is £49.99 here in Tesco which is the UK’s biggest supermarket chain . Like your guys Walmart we have Asda the second largest and Walmart own Asda they have roll back and the always low prices slogan 😅 you can tell it is Walmart they are cheaper than Tesco usually and in the U.K. the sales tax VAT is already added to everything so the price on the shelf is the price you pay . The Hennessy was on sale yesterday for £39 and I the Remy Martin original was £43 .
It was great seeing you open and taste it and show the packaging and just be down to earth about the reality of it , well done guys very humble and great talking points , I watched a video of some master distiller some French guy who makes this stuff doing a review and it was way way over the top pretentious like if you had been touched by god just drinking this Cognac I liked the realism of this and Cognac is my drink of choice I usually have it on the rocks and I’ll usually have the VSOP the VS or the XO in my cabinet. Tesco actually do their own version of XO and it’s the Finest brand which is their signature branded generic branding for the most expensive items throughout the store like Tesco Finest Fillet steak or Tesco Finest ice cream or Tesco Finest cooked meats etc etc . They had a bottle of cognac that was just Tesco value Cognac £14 😣 it’s not good , their own brand XO is £37 and it is a lovely drop well worth the price a massive 10/10 for value . The Remy Martin XO was £68 just checked online they have the 35 ml bottle for that and the 700ml bottle is £135 . Expensive still but it is so moreish 😂 I don’t mind the Martell V.S either . I enjoyed this review it was exactly what I needed to see , down to earth and you two guys were just keeping it real . I like scotch too usually single malt and the 15 year old Glenfiddich is under £40 and good value , I remember buying the Johnnie Walker blue label scotch and it costing £170 😮 and although it was very nice and presentation was second to none it was just not not worth it I’m afraid , this Louis XIII is the favourite drink of Jay-Z and was enjoyed by Napoleon 😂 👍
Get yourself a small glass for boiled water. Get your snifter and pour 1.5 ounces of Cognac and let rest for 30 minutes. while resting boil water and pour in small glass do not fill to top. Place snifter of cognac on top of glass with boiled water and let warm cognac. Sip and enjoy the full flavor trust me you’ll learn why you paid 3k
Once a leo turned lion now judah I might actually have to try that! Thanks for the info!

Only three thousand dollars a bottle ? I'll take two more bottles then.It must be on sale...........😂
I imagine it to be like JW Blue.. mostly a status symbol and not really worth the money (I have a bottle and was deeply disappointed by it). I was curious about this cognac and have no intention of buying it but appreciate your review.
Lol at all these connoisseurs shaming. I actually appreciate the casual point of view in contrast to the more you're paying. Is it his fault he'd prefer the $60 XO? If I'm buying a $1.7 mil Bugatti but a $300k Lamborghini or Ferrari is just as nice, why am I spending the extra dough for show? I don't care if it took 10 years, 100 years, or 1000 years to distill if the taste is barely noticeable? It's not $2940 more noticeable!
No way, i'm ever gonna buy such an expensive bottle. The 1738 is my cognac drink for years now, always tastes good, sometimes a would buy a hennessy xo if i come across one for around 160 buck, but those two are my all time favorite.
i also bought one. Just waiting for a special occasion to drink with the family.
