I’m another proud, and maybe eccentric, member of the five percent. Every time, before I go to bed, I always look at one of your classics featuring many recordings of a landmark work, whether it be Brahms German Requiem, Vaughan Williams’ Symphony no. 5, or any of the symphony cycles. One of my personal favorites is the one you did on Frank Bridge. His ‘Enter Spring’ work was a revelation for me! I believe the 95% should consider going to your channel and look at the ‘videos’ section under the ‘popular’ category. As of January 2025, your most watched video is “The BEST and WORST Mahler Symphony Cycles”. What’s good is good. And you always do good, Dave. ☺️
Love your videos, Dave. I'm one of the 95% because _I have already watched all of your videos_ - I was here from day one. Or maybe day two, the latest. Keep it up, you're a tremendous resource of knowledge and fun! Greetings from Berlin
I too am one of the 5%. Joined your subscribers in 2020. I enjoy looking back on the older videos (not that old!), but I will also happily look at the video recaps. Thank you so much for enriching my life. Were it not for you, I wouldn't have encountered such wonderfully special performances such as Annie Fischer in Beethoven or the Schiff/Vegh Mozart piano concerto cycle - and many more. Finally, and with gratitude, my warmest good wishes to you for 2025.
Proud 5-percenter here! I seem to remember you once pitching the idea of doing a video on 20th century mass settings (e.g. Frank Martin, Poulenc, Vaughan Williams, etc). While this would be more of an “idea” recap than a preexisting video recap, I think it would be a great thing to put out if you still have any interest in that topic. Happy listening!
Dave, whenever I listen to a Haydn symphony below 56 I first check out the Haydn Crusade video. Absolutely contributes to understanding and enjoying the work. I’ll be 80 in April. Do you think you’ll cover the rest before I croke ?
Every time I am newly interested in a composer or looking for another interpretation I. look to see what you recommmend. I am always so happy. I have 3 wonderful Beethoven cycles Wand, Blomstedt and Barenboim which are a joy. I also love my cobbled together Mahler cycle with a 5 from my home team the Melbourne SO. Also so much great music.< I was not so blissfully unaware of. If you keep uploading we'll keep listening
I discovered you very recently, Dave. So, I watch new posts while I peruse the old ones. Thanks to your Mahler reviews, I now have 3 playlists: the Ideal Mahler Cycle (yours), the Alternative Mahler Cycle (something I created based on your reviews), and one for Mahler Lieder (yours).
Dear Dave! I would like to ask you to consider starting the Bach Cantata Schlep again! You have done only 7 episodes so far. Please Mr Hurwitz ! Give it a real thought.
I will. It stopped because I was savoring each one with the score, but they got packed away when I moved and I still haven't unpacked them. But I do hope to get back to it this year. At some point...(sigh)
I would love to hear reviews of conductors discussing what you believe are there strengths and weaknesses as well as their best recording. I’ve looked through a bunch of playlists of yours but haven’t found something like this. I want to learn about the great conductors and what makes them great.
I did a whole series on it for ClassicsToday.com insider members--more than 50 episodes. Each came with a preview for each conductor. Here is the playlist: ruclips.net/p/PLAjIX596BriEV-a05WITbmwaI5YWePx1c
you've introduced me to so much wonderful music which i'd not given attention to. Push comes to shove I'd probably single out Mozart's Divertimento for string trio (much solace during the pandemic) and Haydn Symphonies 97 &99 (conducted by Bernstein) as particular favourites. i'm not always in accord especially as regards modern music but life would be boring if that was the case.
Mahler's cycles. That was a milestone-thrilling one for me. A friend gave me Gielen's with the SWR Grand-Funk-Railroad (sorry can't remember those large names). Ended up getting Chailly's & Concertgebouw. Listening to it right now. But I don't have time for the ideals 'cause everyday I find something new in your playlist or in my list to get. Now I need Schreker's Chamber Symphony (I remember when you first did a review of his orchestral works, delicious indeed). Got 'em all. Dave, what's your pick for "Kammer-synphonie"?. Found a bunch online but I want the best one to listen it for the first time. Will check classics-today anyways. Thanks in advance.
5%er here! Have you ever reviewed Toscanini’s Beethoven symphony cycle in detail? I’ve seen you mention it here and there, but never an in-depth review.
Unbelievable that your viewers don’t take the plunge. Look for example into Dave’s ‘neglected’ playlist and be surprised again and again! And oh well, look around some more and you’ll find thousands of great talks to listen to for years to come.
Very helpful video Dave tnx, btw I would like to introduce you a Persian composer named Shaheen farhat , I sent the link of one of his symphony here Wich reminds me of Bruckner, it will be amazing if you share your opinion about this symphony and composer 🙏
Im lucky in that your preferences closely align with mine so being one of your 5% is extremely useful. I also use the playlists. Having committed to classical music as a primary musical genre only over the past few years and with limited time to explore makes your repertoire videos indispensable for me as a means to “catch up”. Im quite surprised that only 5% look into the backstories.
I was here from the very beginning. In fact, I may hold the distinction of eliciting your first admonishment against correcting your pronunciation of Italian. 🤌
Your playlists and entire archive are well organized and easy to search through, thank you for that.

Thanks for the reminder. So much to do, and so little time!

😂
Will do!

See if you can find Welser-Most on what was EMI. Or Gielen, naturally.
@@DavesClassicalGuide Thanks Dave, wow, to the hunt, while I check your Lajtha's couple of videos. "Le Soli" is just so amazing !!!!!.

Got a big laugh out of me, too!
