Thanks for the shares, thumbs up and comments. Hopefully no Cirrus pilots' feelings were hurt in the making of this video. They are really great airplanes and I take flying and safety EXTREMELY seriously. That said, I like to have fun and I think there is a lot of fun to be had in flying. Thanks.

I was a big believer in feeling the propeller as it turned in order to feel for variations in the balance. I am currently a big believer in hands free operations.

Kinda obvious, as a light sport guy myself, that you snooty guys can't even tell when the end of one of your wings was replaced with a Cessna wing- which is why it doesn't fit.

One thing that you should really emphasize is having an appropriate vape juice reserve. I had a very unfortune occurrence where I had to perform a power on no CH00T landong due to magenta line being inop and making my way into vmc. Now, of course I attempted to vape my way out of the situation, but before ifr could be recovered I was out of juice and had to go through my emergency procedures. Now, being a Mesa Airlines veteran, and learning under $wag Martin himself I was confident in my abilities. However, you standard pilot probably could not have handled the situation due to the no CH00T requirement in the class M airspace I was in. Let this be a lesson to all. Keep an appropriate vape reserve at all times, and avoid class M if at all possible, the no CH00T requirement is awful, and should be taken out of the AME. #vapesaveslives

As a certified lawnmower mechanic used to spinning gizmos, I can tell you that it only takes 3 screws on that spinner thingy to hold the propeller on. 2 if you absolutely have to get away from your girlfriends daddy. The other thing is that it's ok to fly with cloud residue on 1 wing but not both. It's not good to have both wings heavier than your mother inlaw. 1 yes, both no. Too slow to get away from daddy and his shotgun. lol. Have a great day!

I got to the airport and was going to preflight but I had a few beers so a forgot what I was supposed to point at and tap on so naturally I went to RUclips to figure out what to do. Oh course wow my favorite CFI had a video. I now use this as my preflight checklist. After the preflight I got thirsty, because it was Thursday, but then I don’t remember what happened. The plane is back in the hangar so I assume the flight went well. I must have found the other videos on how to fly. Thanks again!

Thank you for this instruction. I recently bought a nice SR22 and do need some help with this "preflight thingy", I hadn't previously thought about doing that but if you do it, it must be important. I haven't really gotten into that yet, everything seems to be working OK, I can get to 3500 feet in 2 min and it lands very nicely, just haven't yet figured out why it almost runs off the left side of the runway during takeoff, I just start at the very right edge with the Cirrus kind of pointed to the right and it takes off just before going into the grass on the left. Must be a low air pressure in one of the tires or something. But the thing I need your advice about is some stuff I found a couple days ago in my SR22. There is this red dangly piece of cloth hanging from the ceiling, don't know what it's for but the ignition key is attached to it. Seems like a good place to hide the key, don't think any crook would think of looking there for the key. The other day when I was going to start up, as I reached for the key, it fell out and went down someplace around the center console. As I was searching for it I noticed that the lid for the center console has a hammer fitted into a bracket that was obviously made to hold the hammer. Do you have any idea what this hammer is there for? It's not like I am a carpenter or even a do it yourself carpenter. I thought about looking in the book the guy gave me when I bought the aircraft, but don't remember where I put it, He said it was a sort of owner's manual. Who reads those things anyway?

On a serious note, yes - really. I noted that when you opened the little door to "check the tubes" that you allowed the latches to snap with full force to the open position. Doing this has been blamed on cracking the structure of that door. I always put a finger on the latch to prevent it from snapping open, then let it up gently after pushing the release button. Love the videos, keep them coming.

Cloud residue can be very dangerous. If allowed to build up it can make your plane hard to find in the hanger and you may take the wrong plane. Finding that you are in a helicopter at 5000 feet without the appropriate rating can lead to an tricky phone call from the FAA....

Very informative, thanks for the insight. I always appreciate it when pros, like you, share their experience.
One small question, though, doesn't pre-flighting a Cirrus also require to pull the red handle? Or did Cirrus get away with it, as they figured that this is not necessary, because the chutes have proven to be so so extremely reliable? ;-)

    • @JustPlaneSilly
      @JustPlaneSilly  8 лет назад +11

+transsib I don't know what Cirrus recommends per se but I would pull the red handle for any of the following scenarios:
      Bounced landing
      Bee in the cockpit
      Spilled my coffee
      Spilled my beer
      Sirrus / XM radio failure
      Busted altitude on a checkride.
I am sure there are other reasons but those are the main ones.

They wouldn't let me sit in it at Oshkosh last year LOL. True story. To their credit, I was dressed like a frat boy and there were lots of dudes in suits that cost more than my house. My real opinion is I hope the chute saves some lives if there happen to be some incidents but from just a flying perspective, you can get more bang for your buck with other options. I get that people who can afford this plane are not worried about getting more bang for their buck though. High rollers want what they want and I can't blame them. You can get more people in a faster plane that is less expensive to operate. But not with a V-tail so there's that. I would love to go for a ride in one. I haven't seen one in person except for the demos at Osh. I hope to cross paths w/ one soon. I want to see it in action.
