    Videos like this clearly show what one pays for when buying a transmission from you.
    It is not just the effort to do the work. It is the observation, and persistence to final workable solutions.
    And the inventory you have to keep... GOODNESS.
    I hope some youngster comes along to learn the craft from you. You do amazing work.

    Hey Paul, i also do think it is very important to be able to "aware" quality of the parts and how they go in and work together between correct amount of tolerances. I really appreciate your videos and teaching style. Not only people can learn about manual transmissions but also your videos deliver some important aspects about any kind of machine assemblies in general.

    Mechanical Metal Working is a lost art, especially in this day of spec racing. I'm lucky I came up when it was still done by everyone. There's something more about taking parts out of the box and doing them up for just a little more edge, than just taking them out of a box and bolting it on. As always, these are great lessons!

    Paul, I bought your Muncie book and watched all your videos probably 3 times. Nice job, man, you clearly know your stuff. You taught me a lot. I'm rebuilding my M21 and I have a question I can't find the answer to. The bearing cage for the input shaft is is tapered on 1 side and flat on the other. I did not make note of that orientation when I took it apart. Can you please tell me which direction the cage should go into the input shaft. It appears to be important, as the bearings will be offset one way or the other
    Thank you

    • @GearBoxVideo
      @GearBoxVideo  7 лет назад +1

      The taper is there to make it easier to install the cage. So it faces forward. The bearings run flat so even if it is installed backwards it will not be a problem.

      I buy and manufacture quality parts. You have to know what is acceptable and what is not. Most of the Ebay parts are horrible yet 1000's of people every year buy them because they are simply price shopping. Eventually have early failures or rebuilds that have problems. Hopefully watching my videos you'll educate yourself to know what is good.

    GREAT ! Now I have tg take my Box Apart Again.
    Where I grew up there was a place that rebuilt these boxes " Brian " I am sure you know of him,
    I had more failures from them. As I later evolved... another place made a Jig and found the cases were distorting
    and found ways to get proper dimensions back by boring and bushing..

I am taking it back for them to listen and comment. Any idea what could cause this? Hi Paul, I've got a box that gets stuck in a gear. With the engine on, brake applied and clutch in, I can get in/out any gears butter smooth. Eliminating all possible causes during strip down and inspection, I can only narrow it down to the synchro hub and slider fitting very loosely on one of the cluster. The assembly rocks quite epicly compared to other cluster that has no issue. Could this be the cause of the issue if the slider gets cocked once engaged?

    • @GearBoxVideo
      @GearBoxVideo  6 лет назад

      The fork should hold it from getting way out of square, unless the fork is worn as well. It could be that the rings are low fitting and the keys are starting to slip out

    • @kevliong2952
      @kevliong2952 6 лет назад

      GearBoxVideo Thanks for the reply. One key popped out last time the case was apart and was found in the drain plug magnet. New synchro was put on and checked for gap and grab (which was all good) and new spring was put on. As a non expert, I didn't check the hub and slider until this time around when it got stuck.
