In my opinion, this is good security. They manage to keep their customer's data private even if it means breaking the law.
They didn’t break the law. In fact by not giving access to a customers phone they protected his privacy and dignity of wich one is the most important and the other one a very important law. If they had given the FBI Access they wouldn’t have broken the law either but ignored their company’s highest policy and standard(The Security and Privacy of their customers).
@@TheLonghairedBomber But it can also be argued that Apple is technically withholding/concealing evidence, which is actually a crime in the US (at least most states as far as I know)
@@PatoChu wich is understandably a very important law but a humans dignity is the most powerful law of all and towering over every other one(I don’t know if it’s the same in California). Here where I live without acknowledgment of the suspect or a definite proof of such a crime a phone can not be searched by anyone.
@@TheLonghairedBomber The FBI is not "anyone" though. Also, you're correct in one thing, it's not strictly illegal for Apple to refuse, I am just saying that it can be argued that this is obstruction of evidence which is a serious offense.

This would be seen as withholding information and under the necessary and proper clause which congress has power with, (and is kind of given to government agencies) they would win in court and apple would lose. Also they could’ve just done it to the one phone, but it would cost them time and for such a small portion size they saw no value

There’ll always be an exploit or an issue which the engineers haven’t thought about but a hacker has. Nothing in this world is 100% perfect, not even computer security.

This is a tricky situation. It’s why Apple security is so “weird” people can do illegal stuff (mainly drugs) on their iPhones and probably be good because Apple security is insane. So if someone were to commit a minor crime like drugs or something of that sort… I think it’s good that Apple wouldn’t turn them over to the most powerful people in the U.S. government. But then with terrorists it becomes more difficult. I can easily forgive someone who does drugs but killing 16 people 😬 from the perspective of the shooter however, they certainly wouldn’t want their phones info leaked to the fbi so they are now counting on Apple to not dig that hole as well.

1.1. As already discussed many times, the photos issue was a bug with no proven malicious intent.
2. The “M series chip vulnerability that cannot be patched” is overblown. It would require plenty of expertise and a whole lot of time to exploit, not sustainable for real-life use. It’s practically a non-issue. There was another issue with M1 which could only be exploited by manipulating the voltage flow… you know how hard it is to do that, let alone without breaking the machine and at the exact nanosecond to successfully exploit?
