Sometime destraction helps mom. Other times I listen to her ideas and agree if "we can" work out her anxiety. ❤
Nice to be meeting mom where she is, @janetpogue4970!
Thank you soo much! Being a caregiver is exhausting but you’ve given me insight and ideas to make it fun for both of us. You are a blessing! 💐

You sound like you have a cold. I know, very off topic. Back on topic, though, you’ve taught me soooo much, and I just wanted to say thank you.
Hi, @courtneyhawkins3339, I think that Teepa was just very tired when she did this session, thanks for noticing and ask though. You are very welcome for all of the materials - we are very glad that you have learned sooooo much, all of us who work at Positive Approach to Care agree with you (www.teepasnow.com).
Off topic but I wanted you to know say that I like the QR code. However I watch videos on my phone and can’t scan it. Can you create a link as well?
Hi, @sandrahyer! Sorry that the QR code was too small. Here's the link: teepasnow.com/pac-annual-conference/ It's to information about ou upcoming conference (Nov. 15-17, 2023). In-person and virtual tickets are still available.
Would you use this approach with children having physical and cognitive problems in which the children want to assume the parental control or echolalia of other adults behaviours (as seen on TV or on the internet)? Would you then refer to those children as "having dementia" or not?
Hi, @paulemorbois5739. Thanks for asking. We recommend our techniques for any interaction with anyone no matter what. If they are living with dementia, brain changes, or just living. We prefer to use the term living with brain change or neurodiversity than dementia per se. Why label a person? If you would like to discuss this in more detail, please contact us at info@teepasnow.com or 1-877-877-1671.

Hey Teepa if I ask my husband a question like "do you want coffee?" And he can't answer. Do I give it to him anyway?
Hi, @teresanaylon2823, it's a member of Teepa's team here to answer your question. So it sounds like your husband is not able to answer when you ask a direct question. I wonder how it would be different if instead of asking the question alone, what if you were to show him a cup of coffee to see if he would like it? We do not always have to just use words to try and get someone to respond. Teepa and the team have found much more success when we show people first and then use a word. If you would like to talk more about this, please reach out to our team for a free 30-minute session.
Consult@teepasnow.com or 1-877-877-1671.
My husnand is 71 years old snd has early onset dementia. In the last few years his symptoms have increased to where he recognizes me but doesnt know my name, he's had to be reintroduced to our 3 small children, and he has started to forget how to read. He no longer drives but still insists he is safe to do so. He is also an epileptic. The seizures seem to increase his dementia symptoms. Because he is unable to comprehend the seriousness of the situation with our children, thry have bern returned to foster care. Since thry were taken, his symptoms seem to have abated. Is this normal or do i need to be concerned about the lucidity before passing? The doctors have not been able to answer my questions. I'm at a loss how to continue to help him
Hi, @johannawilmore3250, I'm sorry that there's so much uncertainty in your situation. I'm wondering if you want to reach out to our team to set up a free 30-minute consultation to discuss things in more detail. It is very hard to give quick answers here, when what you write brings up more questions for us. Please email consult@teepasnow.com or call us at 1-877-877-1671 to set up a session.
I have a feeling this is easier to do with a non-family member (as a caregiver) than a family member. :(
Agreed. It is also harder for us family caregivers who are learning these techniques late, so we have already done some of the "damage". I didn't admit mom's problems until her disease was fairly advanced so I have been feeling for the last six months. Still have a lot of catching up to do!
Hi, @TheAmtwhite, you are right it can be a little easier for a non-family member, but even a family member willing to try can have moments of joy with their person. Thanks for watching, subscribing, and commenting!
Hi, @ginic7032, glad to hear that you are working to improve your care partnering. I know that you will catch up. If only these easy distractions worked with FTD
I agree completely.
Hi, @whalewoman813, yes FTD does require a bit more. If you'd like to learn more you may want to check out this search on our website (teepasnow.com/search/?search=ftd&search_filters=%7B%22products%22%3A1%7D) or connect with our team to talk specifics (consult@teepasnow.com)

@@teepasnowvideos yes! Four months ago as a new caregiver, I was assigned to care for an amazing 96 year old retired Director of Nursing, Amber Gem suffering with dementia, and no one in my care team had knowledge or any training on the various Gem states and no one would last with her because she was consistently in an Amber state. For years she had not allowed anyone but her daughter to assist with her daily needs, especially toileting, and was verbally abusive and mean. As frightened as I was to interact with her, I kept at it despite the daily challenges but every evening and my time off, I researched for ways to make the daily caregiving experience better for both of us, for her as well as for my own sanity. Fortunately I Found your video on toileting an Amber Gem and I was HOOKED on your videos! I applied your advice and remarkable training and boom 🤯 I received a positive response from my Gem! It has taken time but she now trusts me fully and we both enjoy each others company and she is now out of the predominantly Amber state and in is now freely expressing herself in her Emerald state most often! 💚 💎 Your Positive approach to care is invaluable and should be taught in all care facilities, everywhere! Mine is a true success story and I thank you and your team so very much for making your videos available on RUclips. God bless you and your PAC team. Continued success to you! 👏🏼
