    Thanks for the easy to follow video! Had a heat pump installed in 2016, iced up the last two years in winter and finally stopped cooling this summer. Purchased the sensor in this video and fixed the cooling. Hoping it fixes the icing in winter. No experience with HVAC and was able to do this in less than 30 minutes. Thanks again!!!

    I’ve had the same freezing-up issue for a few months now since heat was called for. I live in northwest Ga. My unit a 2018 4ton. After pulling the meter out I realized the board and both sensors were bad. Thanks again for bringing this to attention, specifying the replacement parts and taking the time to video it sir. After replacing all 3 it’s been working great!

    Good evening. I had a newer rheem about 6 years old, very similar to this unit. I had a bad defrost board and replaced the board with the sensors. Called back today with defrost not working, I had replaced the board a few days ago. upon arrival found un it iced up. shorted the pins to put into defrost and only stayed in defrost for less than 30 seconds with sensor incased in ice. This video is very helpful and now i know to get the new sensors. Thanks again

    What is up with these coil thermistors? I have had the ONLY TWO Honeywell DB7110U1000 defrost controls I bought forTRUCK STOCK, have their coil thermistors go bad within a week of installation.
    First time I just replaced the thermistor but the second time I also exchanged the control for fear that the control somehow destroyed the thermistor???
    Weird, over 30+ yrs of calls, this is the first time I ever ran into bad sensor issues under warranty. Thanks for the RHEEM INFO! I'll keep an eye out!

    Yes! We've had the same problem on the 2018 heat pumps (two stage in this case). A slug fried the original board. Replaced the board, but not the sensors (which tested OK using an ohm meter). Fine in cooling mode, but in heating mode, needless defrosts all the time. Very short defrost cycles, too, so hard on the system and turns on the resistance heaters needlessly. I thought that setting the defrost termination at 70 was the error, but no difference regardless of which of the three settings we use.
    SO, should we replace the new board AND both sensors or just the two new sensors?
    I find that board part number 47-102684-104 has been replaced by 47-102684-204. Is it safe to assume that the 104 to 204 is compatible?
    ALSO -- these outdoor unit cases rattle like crazy. Is there some weatherstripping missing that we can add to end the rattle? It seems that the metal case around the coil is what is loose and missing some sort of vibration dampening.
    Thank you for your helpful video!

  • @BigDuval

    I was working on a 2 stage heat pump from 20 and the error it was throwing was the coil failure. Bypassed the board until I can get a new board and sensor after the weekend but they are still having problems cooling.

    Had my Rheem instead this past April. Since turning cold in Maryland and having to turn the heat on it's been making a loud trumpet like or whale call sound before the fan comes on. I was told it was the defrost mode. Is this normal or is this part of the board/sensor issue?

  • @Roybwatchin
    @Roybwatchin Год назад

    Would this bad sensor cause my condenser fan to cycle on and off even while the compressor is running fine? My fan only runs for about five seconds and then shuts off for about minute and then comes back on for five seconds. Then compressor gets hot and shuts everything down. My defrost board is flashing two blinks so thinking this is the problem. Does it for ac and heat pump modes. Thanks

    • @HVACTechTips
      @HVACTechTips  Год назад

      No this would just effect the defrost in heating. Sounds like it may be a bad board, motor, or capacitor? Can't say for sure unless there's more information given.

    I have a RP2060BJVCA 2 months old system, and the service guy said that my 410A levels look good, Pressure looks good, he checked system during the day when it was 40 degrees. Defrosted fine during the daytime but it won't defrost during the colder nights (28 Degrees) and just shuts down without going into defrost mode. So then it wants to start up with frost on coil. Please someone tell me where to start looking for the problem.

    Thanks for the tip. I have a Rheem (2005) that was new - in box - never installed until 2018, and not put into service until 9/2019. It came with an unfinished home I bought here in the Gatlinburg area. In your video, you never mentioned what "the problem" with the defrost board/sensors was. My problem has been, when in heat mode, it goes into defrost too often and runs for too long. Thus, adding very cold air to the house to be re-heated. (more run time = more $$) Last year I replaced the defrost board with professional installation. Protech 47-102684-83 to replace 47-21517-16. Still doing the same thing. Do you think the sensor kit replacement might solve this problem? I have used a total of four (four) different HVAC companies. I seem to be learning more at RUclips University. Thanks if you can help. John A.
