  • This is a video tutorial of how to remove the front bumper cover from a 2011-2013 Kia Optima (K5). If you're going to do this I would highly recommend watching this video first, unless you want to risk tearing your $500 bumper cover.
    There's an alternate method to this, but for first-timers, I highly recommend using this method.
    If you have any questions please let me know.

    Thank you, managed to do my DRL’s today following your video. Thank you for sharing!
    Also those last 3 bolts were the worst, I left the ones off you did also.

    I appreciate you taking the time to make this video. I have no experience with modding yet, but have decided to begin the modding process on my own Kia Optima. Therefore, videos like this are a tremendous help in ensuring that I do not damage my car during the process. Also, I love your Optima; it's a beautiful color with awesome wheels.

    I have a 2005 kia optima but this was the closest video I found. gonna have to replace my front bumper soon, my old one got torn up on the drivers side. this video at least gives me a pretty good idea of what I'm gonna have to do. SN - SXLs with factory DRLs and fogs have more wire harnesses on either side to remove before the bumper can be taken off freely. Thanks again for the detailed video!

    Many thanks drew for your well documented video on the removal of the Optima . Drew I have to remove a front bumper on a 2013 Kia ceed which I hope would be similar to the optima . . As the car has been in a collision before I purchased if and I find that the bumper vibrates as if we're not properly fitted when it was put back together when being reassembled . ..meaning that some bracket or mounting points weren't connected as they should have been .

    Hey...great video! Ive got a 2014 Cadenza and I want to do a grill swap, so I know I have to drop the bumper cover. The Optima bumper cover assembly looks very similar, do you think itd be much different? I already removed all the top screw bolts and fasteners, and the bolt in my wheel well is the same....I just havent looked at the bolts/fasteners underneath the bumper. Im thinking it has to be very similar. I read in a thread where they didnt have to drop the whole cover to get the grill out...any thoughts? Thanks...

    Hello NappyDrew. Was wondering if you could answer a question for me. I had to replace my headlight bulbs which I used your video. Very helpful by the way, made it easier. However, when I put it back together, my outside temperature reading is now flashing on my instrumental panel. Would you or anyone else know where this sensor is located and could I have done something while changing the lights? I called the Kia dealership and they were no help. They just wanted to charge me and the rep did not even know that the bumper had to come off. Didnt make me feel to confident in dropping it off to them. Any ideas?

    • @AMDRyzenEnthusiastGroup
      @AMDRyzenEnthusiastGroup  9 лет назад +2

      +Mitch Mitchell
      Well, firstly if you only change the bulbs in your headlights, bumper removal is not needed. You only need to take the bumper off to replace the entire headlight assembly. With regard to the temp sensor, I could only guess, but I frequently use : www.optimaforums.com/forum/ for anything I'm unsure of. I'm sorry I can't help more, but there's a LOT of info there, and lots of people to help. I'd be very suprised if one of my forum buddies couldn't help you out. Good luck!

    • @AMDRyzenEnthusiastGroup

      Those are the factory horns. You can get to those by only removing the upper portion (grille), which is a bit of a pain. For me it's just easier to take off the whole bumper cover. But, I've done it many times. I can drop that bumper cover in about 10 minutes, so...

    Hey man, nice video. But you don't need to take those last three bolts out. They only hold on a clip. The bumper is designed to pull out of those clips. Just pull carefully and hard on the part that is riveted to the bumper. It should come out.

    I think it's absolutely insane that Kia made the vehicle so that in order to replace the headlight side marker lamps you must remove the front bumper to do it. My body shop said sometimes it can take up to two hours they charge $45 an hour and then of course the cost of the bulb.

    • @AMDRyzenEnthusiastGroup
      @AMDRyzenEnthusiastGroup  8 лет назад +1

      ***BEWARE***
      YOU DO NOT NEED TO REMOVE THE BUMPER TO CHANGE THOSE BULBS!!! IF YOUR MECHANIC TOLD YOU THAT, TAKE YOUR CAR ELSEWHERE!!! THIS IS FOR CHANGING THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY ONLY.

    • @JulysAngel69
      @JulysAngel69 7 лет назад

      nappydrew Wow, this body shop Wharton Cadillac Body in Parkersburg WV, was doing body work after a collision, I'm so frustrated with them. It was the body shop manager that told me this. They had called me with a repair estimate, to get ok to do work as I had to go out of state to help move a daughter, I asked him to send in email. Next thing, I'm being told it's finished and never had an estimate for the work. I told them owner's manual states seatbelt should be replaced, so that should have been only supplement, but somehow they got a whole lot more paid to them, plus looks like they charge for 2 front bumpers they even put a note that customer not happy ordered another. Don't think any work should have been done until I had estimate in hand.
      How do you replace sidemarker parking lamps in headlights?

    • @AMDRyzenEnthusiastGroup

I don't have anyone to help me, so have to do what I can alone. I may be 60 and don't look like a mechanic, but don't let that fool you. Lol! I've put a fuel pump in a 94 Ford Explorer 2 times by myself took 3 days but did. Put starter motor in a Mazda Miada, power antenna in my Dad's Buick Park Ave, fuel filters in his and mine and my sold Explorer. On the 3 bolts hidden behind bumper on each side(one you only do 2 instead of 3) to finally get bumper off, I don't even see a hole that can be bolted to those on my new bumper. I haven't tried to put it on yet, but can't see a place that those would bolt to(found pre painted to match bumper shipped for $160 on Amazon) is for a 2012, so hope it fits since mine is Korean built. My 11 Kia optima ex-t, wife bought new car, so now I am fixing it up like new again since she has another vehicle now. Going to seafoam valves, run oil system cleaner, clean throttle body, and replace spark plugs since car runs great still and has 95,000 miles, may use it as my work car. Been probably most reliable car we ever owned and zero issues other than regular maintenance and a couple CV joints.

    • @AMDRyzenEnthusiastGroup
      @AMDRyzenEnthusiastGroup  4 года назад

      That's because there's a bracket that's technically supposed to be attached to the car with those bolts, and your new bumper snaps into it. You should have half the bracket attached to your old bumper cover, if you took it off this way.

    • @AMDRyzenEnthusiastGroup
      @AMDRyzenEnthusiastGroup  8 лет назад

      +Armanda Wilson, A 2006 Kia Amanti is probably a lot different. I'm not sure, but Kia redesigned their whole fleet around 2010-2011 when Peter Schreyer started turning out his newly designed "Tiger Nose" on Kia vehicles. By 2011, Kia's were much different cars than in 2006. That being said, Removing the bumper from a 2006 Amanti couldn't be that difficult. If you can't find a good video, I would recommend buying a service manual for a 2004-2006 Amanti. Chiltons is a good one for most cars, but you may be be to pick up a Haynes Manual at your local Autozone.

    • @AMDRyzenEnthusiastGroup
      @AMDRyzenEnthusiastGroup  7 лет назад

      Your best bet, for a decent price, would be to try to find one used, from a Junkyard, but if not, it's cheaper to buy it without paint, and have it painted. They charge an arm and a leg for new bumpers, with paint. I really don't know much more. It's been awhile since I looked around at parts for like that. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

    • @AMDRyzenEnthusiastGroup
      @AMDRyzenEnthusiastGroup  7 лет назад

      Some Optimas were built here, in the USA, and other in Korea. If it was built in Korea, it likely has a hole to mount a tow-hook. If it was assembled here, in the USA, it probably doesn't have the proper mounting area. Open your door, on the driver side, and look on the side (where the locking latch is, the part you can't see when the door is shut) there will be a sticker telling you where it was assembled, in addition to vin#, etc.. If it wasn't made in Korea, I think you'd have to do a Korean bumper swap, to the best of my knowledge, unless you modified it, in some other way. Hope this helps.

    • @AMDRyzenEnthusiastGroup
      @AMDRyzenEnthusiastGroup  8 лет назад

      You do, unless you have an SX, because it won't fit. At least on 2011, 2012, 2013. Anything newer, I'm not sure. They changed the design in '14. If you're leary about doing it, there's a bumper extension you can buy directly from KIA that is made to fit around the DRL's after you cut it, without sacrificing part of your bumper.

    • @AMDRyzenEnthusiastGroup
      @AMDRyzenEnthusiastGroup  8 лет назад

      Easiest way to cut it, BTW, is with a Sawzall. Just go get a couple GOOD metal cutting blades, and it'll take literally a minute or two. Just be sure to also buy a can of black primer to paint the bumper where you cut it, so it doesn't rust.

      On the back of your headlight assembly there are adjustment screws. Park in front of a garage door or a wall with your lights on, and dial it in to what you prefer. I can't believe nobody at the places you went could help you. The adjustment screws are very easy to identify. Hope that helps you Eric.

      I recommend disconnecting all power before this sort of thing, even though I don't do it personally. It's certainly a lower risk operation, however, I'm not exactly as careful as I probably should be. If they do go off, which is possible, however unlikely, it's very expensive to replace them. Once deployed, the bags are trash, and the trim pieces covering them are too.

      I'm not sure I understand what you mean when you say "front shell." The only part of the front bumper assembly that you can remove, without taking off the entire bumper cover, is the grille, and that's a pain in the a**.

    • @rukshannaffas4436
      @rukshannaffas4436 8 лет назад

      Yes the grill. How do you remove it without taking off the bumper?

    • @AMDRyzenEnthusiastGroup
      @AMDRyzenEnthusiastGroup  8 лет назад

      Basically, you just take off the fasteners on the top of the assembly, right under the hood, and CAREFULLY pull the grille out from the top, and you have to get your hand down behind it. Once you do that, you'll be able to access the fasteners that hold the grille in place. There are several right where the grille meets the bumper, and you'll have to go by feel, because you can't really see in there. In fact, it's been so long since I took the grille off, I can't remember if what type of fasteners hold it in place. Sorry I can't be more help.

    Hey Drew, that helped a lot...especially with those "surprise" additional bolts that are ALWAYS in an area that seems to be positioned just to cost you time, blood, sweat, and tears. Anyway, I need to replace just the drivers side headlight module (ruined a spot of it by trying to add blue headlight covers. Well, I couldn't get the glue off with any clleaner that I had..so I used goof off and it ate into my headlight. A 3" tan, melted plastic goo spot. So, I got a brand new, from the dealer drivers light for $95 bucks!! So, I want to replace it. I also have 80 watt cree fog light bulbs on the way.
    Please....if you have a moment...will my standard wiring handle the fog lights and should I just remove half of the bumper and kind of pull it out of the way to get to the headlight assembly "screwed" or should I just take the whole thing off and do it like you did?

    • @AMDRyzenEnthusiastGroup
      @AMDRyzenEnthusiastGroup  8 лет назад +1

      As far as how much to remove, if your changing fog light housings, take off the whole bumper, trust me...tried it....
      Your wiring will be fine. I would be more concerned with melting issues, unless the new lights are LED's. I melted my fogs with 50 watt halogen bulbs. If they're not LED, you might regret it. The wiring will handle the load just fine, the fog housing, not so much. The fogs are only designed for 35 watt standard bulbs, but LED's are MUCH cooler, and they take very little power to operate.
      Good luck!

    Hi, can you do video on how to replace the fender liners on Kia Optima

  • @cumshot247
    @cumshot247 7 лет назад +1

    Hey Drew, I was trying to replace my HID bulbs on my 2012 Optima SX. I
    got the back cover off the low beams but can't seem to disconnect the
    connector to the bulb. I've seen other videos where you just twist and
    the bulb comes out but these HID bulbs are different and don't seem to
    twist. And even if you do get it loose, how about that darn connector at
    the bottom that won't/can't disconnect?
    I was told that I would have to remove the bumper and headlight assembly to change this bulb. And if I do this, I don't see how it would help me to get the bulb out of that little space in the back. Thanks Drew.

    • @AMDRyzenEnthusiastGroup
      @AMDRyzenEnthusiastGroup  7 лет назад +1

      Yeah, on the SX models the factory HID's are "D1S" bulbs. They don't twist. They are attached to a square base, and it unplugs from the side. If you google "D1S Headlight" you'll see what I mean.

    • @cumshot247
      @cumshot247 7 лет назад

      Yes, I've seen the connector on the side and in the tight space behind the headlight, I've pulled hard as I could and even tried prying with a screwdriver but seeing the connector starting to bend, I stopped. Is there something I have to push, pull, or squeeze to get it off? I'm in fear of breaking it if I force it too much...

    • @AMDRyzenEnthusiastGroup
      @AMDRyzenEnthusiastGroup  7 лет назад

      1. Unplug factory connector by unclipping and pulling off bulb.
      2. Remove factory bulb by twisting counterclockwise out of factory socket.
