    Jami, GURL! I missed the live, I'm watching the replay. You are scaring me with that knife! 😬 Use a pizza cutter to make some marks on those boards. I'm getting too old for these SCARES! LOL

    Perfect timing. I just bought a few boards of pecan wood that’s been drying for about 4 years. I’ve already starting cutting the boards, and using tung oil to seal.

    • @cynthiafisher9907
      @cynthiafisher9907 2 года назад

      Is tung oil food safe? Or are they only for decoration?

    • @mtparrish
      @mtparrish 2 года назад +1

      @@cynthiafisher9907 Tung oil is extracted from nuts. Known for good water resistance, it often requires numerous coats. It leaves a natural finish that darkens the wood while showcasing the grain. Once thoroughly cured, it is food-safe.

    • @cynthiafisher9907
      @cynthiafisher9907 2 года назад

      @@mtparrish Thanks for the reply! I knew it was a good sealer for wood, I just didn’t know if it was food safe.

    • @mtparrish
      @mtparrish 2 года назад +1

      @@cynthiafisher9907 I thought it was interesting too that it derives from nut oil. I have 5 boards cut and about 10 to go. I hope my customer group will like them!

  • @janetbyrne7765
    @janetbyrne7765 2 года назад +1

    Please be careful with the lovely green patina on the copper as it is toxic if consumed! You must seal it with something to block the transfer to your hands or food. And wash your hands after touching it!

    Does anyone else use vinegar to rinse off their cutting boards after they have washed them with soapy water? I do it because my mom taught me to sanitize them that way. Jami I might not be able to catch all your lives but I always make time for your replays. I always seem to learn something from you. Today I learned you have black moto pants in stock. 😅 Had to go and order a pair.❤️

    Is not maple wood the hardest wood, not sure about pine ,, for cutting boards, I guess all food safe depends on how slivery the wood gets when cutting food on it.? So, not sure about pine, ?what you think

    • @JamiRayVintage
      @JamiRayVintage  2 года назад

      The pine works well, it does wear a little faster but I’ve never worn through a pine cutting board yet. As far food safe woods a good rule is if the tree bears edible fruits, nuts or sap it can be used around food.

    as far as using scrap wood to make food safe boards, can you use any wood?

    • @JamiRayVintage
      @JamiRayVintage  2 года назад +1

      Pretty much. A good rule to follow is no manufactured wood like MDF and if the tree bears edible fruit, nuts or sap it’s safe to be around food.

    Are these totally decorative ? Cause popular wood which is very soft ,,,,for cutting food on gets very unclean, it so porous hard to clean , so I guess choose what you can cut on that , no meat or cheese

      Actuality, wood cutting boards halt bacteria growth and are proven to be healthier than plastic over time. The wood itself prevents bacteria growth

    • @JamiRayVintage
      @JamiRayVintage  2 года назад

      They’re food safe. The tight grain of the poplar works well even though the wood is much soften then say a maple or birch.
