Love this one!!
Glad you liked it Fran
thanks for this video, its beautiful.
Thank you, Malcolm for your tutorials. They are very helpful. I really like your art. Are the paintings behind you made in oil, acrylic, gouache, tempera? I can't choose my own paint and constantly jump from oil to gouache, to watercolour and back again.
Thank you. Those are all oils. That is still the most popular medium for collectors. Also extremely versatile.
@@MalcolmDewey Thank you. But I'm not a collector. I'm trying to be a painter for many years, painting for my own pleasure. ))
@@user-rx3ph3ox4i Then you have a wonderful journey ahead - enjoy!

Any reason I couldn’t do this with gouache?
only paint thickness is the main difference.
It must be my brushes because you tend to lay it down. My brushes tend to just pick up the paint and I’m just removing paint rather then laying down paint. It’s just waisted time and paint. So frustrating. I have bristle brushes for blocking in. Synthetic brushes and natural hair. All Rosemary and Co. any advice? I do use a light touch. Barely touching the board. Thank you.
It could be the speed and firmness of the brush movement. The motion needs to be fairly strong over the existing paint. No hesitation. Also if the lower layer is too wet from mediums or oil it will be slippery. This makes the next layer difficult. Finally make sure lower layer is thinner than the top layer. Practice these approaches to get a better feel for it.
@@MalcolmDewey thanks I will give it a try.
