I absolutely love everything about the moon jar! It's stunning! I love to watch a master working with porcelain. I hope one day I will be brave enough to make something fairly large with porcelain. Thank you for sharing her process. ❤️
What beautiful work! I’m purely a sculptor, but moon jars are by far my favorite shape! I would love to know what porcelain Ms. Thom uses to get such vertical height and to be able to use that much water without it getting waterlogged- any of the porcelains I have used in the US if it even looks at water it flops into a puddle, I even have to use throwing slip for handbuilding and sculpting 😅. When using porcelain on the wheel I basically throw dry at this point!
I am here to ask the same question, I have the same experience with porcelain and water. I learned that throwing with slip instead of water really helps. But that porcelain looked very strong and disinclined to water log. The best cone 6 porcelain I have found is Standard 365. Great stuff. I guess this will start a quest to find clay like that.
