  • Some quick feedback on my new Piaggio BV 400 Scooter. Noticed there are very few reviews from the USA, so wanted to post one. Bottom line, fun, quality, speed, comfort, new tech at a great price. Vespa Motorsport and Robot are the best!

    Thanks for the review. I watched countless youtube videos before ordering mine. I now know more about the bike, than a natural owner. It's strong enough to beat most, if not all it's 400cc competitors.

      Yes, I'm still loving it. Took it to AmeriVespa Flagstaff this year... and did me solid! Great riding up to Grand Canyon and Sedona.

      No problem. Just normal break-in (trying to avoid too much time on highway). One thing Vespa Motorsports told me is the BV 400 does burn some oil, not much, during break-in. I had to put in maybe 1/8 of a quart after 300 miles.

    I also live in AZ, got mine in San Fco. went there to buy a used one but the seller had understated the actual millage by more than double!, not to come back empty handed decided to go to the dealer and get me a new one, so far I love the bike, as you mention - no vibrations in the fwy, very important. - BTW I got it in the silver color with a box tha fits 2 full helmets, wife rides along 😊

    Like your review. 81 years old, driving large touring bikes for sixty years .Can't stop driving but need a lighter more user friendly ride. Will try and get a 400 in this area. Nova Scotia Can. the salt and rust capital of the world . Have a great day .

      Thanks Richard. Just my 2 cents... as a guy who runs 2 scooter clubs with hundreds of members, I've had a lot of little bit older folks tell me exactly what you say... I think you have to be realistic. There's only something like 30 or 50 lbs of difference between this bike and a Harley Davidson Nightster. They are freaking heavy bikes. I'd suggest at most you look at the GTS 300 Vespa, still just a little lighter. Getting hurt is not worth it. I'd suggest smaller IMHO. Good luck, be safe.

    Which one you like better?
    I have the BV400 but the look of the classic Vespa is amazing, I’ve been thinking to trade my BV400 for GTS300
    What do you think?
    Is it worth it?
    Let me know and thanks!

    • @fatcatscooter2584
      @fatcatscooter2584  Год назад +2

      Love them both. BV 400 is fantastic for highway... smooth. Handles well and nimble considering how big it is. But like all the BV's... seating position is tight for long rides... I need to stop every hour or 2. GTS is so easy to handle but you feel a little more of the bumps but the seat is very spacious. Great speed but BV has a lot more speed. GTS gets the looks. If only one bike, I'd go GTS 300 as can do highway, more leg room, and comfortable seat with classic looks.

    3rd time watching this. Need an update about your feeling about the space, particularly the foot space. I have a friend that says the glove box on all BVs seem to not fit well and the foot space is not so good. Heard you say the same about foot space. So in your opinion, is the limited foot space a problem with a long ride. Anyhoo, enjoy your channel over the past year as I've converted to Vespa GTS. I love the looks/color of yours.

    • @fatcatscooter2584
      @fatcatscooter2584  Год назад +1

      Thanks! Yes, foot space is just OK. I have a early 2000 BV 200 and a 2008 BV 500 and both of them, exact same as this, you sit upright and flat footed (as on our GTS's) but don't have any extra inches to stretch once in a while (except sideways off the bike for a few seconds)... but I knew this buying it. Totally fine for an hour or 2 ride, more than that without stopping it's annoying. But I think most of use ride an hour or so, stop, get back on. Not an issue. If lots of long rides, maybe not the best. Good room ,not great room. Compared to Bergman 400, no where near the room. But it does not suck, just ok. Hope the helps, the upside is so much power for a 400cc and insanely smooth. No issues at all with Glovebox, not sure what he's saying. One note, happen to talk to owner the Vespa Dealer (smart guy), he said he's had several come back that he sold that are burning oil with low miles so to keep an eye on it. I noticed mine (only 450 miles so far) was down 1/8th a quart. Not a lot but defiantly will need to check more often vs the GTS. Sorry, long answer.

      @@fatcatscooter2584 long answer appreciated. My HPE was broke in gently (now 2500 miles) and never came off the full mark with oil. Still no burn. Thanks again. Look forward to an update next summer.

      @@Scootphoria Sounds like GTS new HPE engines no oil burning... just a little on BV 400 HPE. but little oil in a little engine means to watch it. I'll be bringing the BV 400 and my GTS 300 to AmeriVespa in Flagstaff June of '23, got to lead the Grand Canyon Ride! You coming??!!

    How is the wind coming off the windshield with respect to buffeting and wind noise? Robot at Scooter West said for his height there was buffeting.

      Greg, are you punking me??!! LOL, I just filmed with Robot this week for Amerivespa, small world you should ask. I think he and I are about the same height... maybe he has an inch on me. No buffeting at all, 0! And I ride the thing 85mph up the 101 highway to work many mornings. I honestly think it could be the helmet. • @fatcatscooter2584
      @fatcatscooter2584  Год назад

      Need trickle charger because I'm in AZ and the extreme heat kills batteries as it is so helps extend life and as I have two bikes, in the summers I might not ride one of them for over a month, don't want battery to die. On trickle chargers I get 3 years or more out of batteries. Thanks!! G

      Sorry, not sure what you are talking about. Spoke to dealer I purchased from, they only concern they've had is a little oil burning... just important to check level especially during break in process. Engine stalling sounds like something specific to the bike you have? Any more info?
