It's been 45 years sence I set in the driver's hatch of one of these Vehicles. My platoon was a Weapons Plt. 81mm. The Mortar was mounted in the bask of an M-125a1 Motar carrier. Would surely enjoy a trip down range again.
Judging by the turn near that office, the driver is learning how to operate this M113. With no reversing mirrors, reversing near a crowd without a ground guide is dangerous for the crowd. I cringed when I saw how close the crowd was. Having said, that, thank you for uploading this vid, brought back memories of my time in the Aussie Armoured Corps.
M113 is so common in the world of armour it is known as the beetle of the armoured world! over 100,000 have been made, and modernised MICV versions of the M113 are still in production.
I remember the procedure for lowering the ramp. Stop APC, lock steer laterals in place, press horn to warn those behind that the ramp was about to lower, shift to the right in the seat, with right hand, release ramp lock lever and extend it fully rearward, operate ramp lowering lever. when fully lowered, return locking leave to closed and release ramp lowering lever. Raising the ramp is similar but the engine revs need to be increased during ramp raising.

I wonder if we couldn't enlist some of the M113's we have to function as mortar carriers. That way we could have enough mortar tubes to always be in an enemies face with mortars. It would be kind of like a left jab in that it would keep an enemy off balance, and make it harder for them to stage an attack. Of course, they could do the same to us, but this type of attack would work better in the defensive role than in the offensive role, because a unit on the defensive is likely to be dug in.
Why did not they use these when they raided the early hours of the 8 of November 2022 the Treasury in Washington DC. 4 Marines lost there lives 3 or 4 wounded on the quick retreat after. Needless to say they did not complete there mission at the end the Marines were out numbered 1 to 10. Rest in peace brother Marines.
yes its the chev petrol version, what a lot call the M113A0 even though that is not an official designation. the first giveaway even before it started is the rings on the front sides 1/2 way up that were later removed from the design and they only fitted the top 4 bolt on lifting loops.
That’s what I was thinking the moment he started up. The 2 stroke Detroit diesel sound like doing twice the amounts of refs. I worked as a mechanic for the Dutch Army, so I know that lovely sound of the Detroit diesel.
The original M113 had the Chrysler 75M gasoline engine. The Detroit 6V53 was used in the M113A1, A2, and the 6V53T in the A3 version.. This example is a very early M113 with the V8 gas engine.

I drove the M113A1 in '78 & '79. During Reforger and RTEP as a driver you really got a chance to beat the hell out of them. Great fun....

That does not sound like the right engine which should be a Detroit 6V53.
