Me and my husband are both volkswagen lover here in Philippines... I uploaded also the volkswagen engine he rebuild... And I am so proud of him....... God bless and keep up the good work sir!
thanks chris for all your videos. i just bought my first bug. a 77 std with a 2275cc engine and freeway flyer trans. this is prolly the easiest car ive ever worked on and they are just great cars.
Great video, just rebuilt my 73 vw thing and bench tested it using this video. Worked great. Fabricated a little stand to mount fuel tank. Thanks for taking the time to make these videos.
I am from Brazil, here we call it Vw Beetle, for years it was the best selling car. I have a variation of it called Vw Brasilia 1980 same mechanical simplicity I am reforming, although they are different in some aspects I learn many tips with you thank you. I like your workshop has a very good space to work with.
Love VWs, worked on them my whole life. Actually you don't have to have a bell housing, they sell a piece that uses the starter holes and the one right below it to start one, its made out of something like Plastic. I bought a bunch of parts and it was in a box, otherwise I wouldn't have know about them. lol.
The Digifant system works well... IF its a digifant... we have used this fuel management system for built engines with large cams, large jugs, and it has served us well and extremely reliably... its all a matter of preference...
Once again, totally awesome thank you...I was wondering how the whole starter interchange thing works. I was also wondering if it's possible to hand crank a VW engine on the bench? Are there hand crank attachments that you can put on an engine? I have an old engine which I'd like to test on the bench but I don't have a starter. I wonder about using a ratched and attaching it to the flywheel or something heheh....might be a little dangerous.
It's good practice to fit an oil pressure gauge from test set in place of oil pressure switch for test runs. Can crank engine until pressure shows before starting. Gives you a nice fuzzy warm feeling inside!
Thanks a lot you're video really helpedi hae been working on getting my engine started for a while i installed the transmission today it was hard aligning the studs $ everythng but i got it know only thing left is to wire every thing up and post a vid
Hey chris! greetings from latin america , venezuela! i really like all your videos! you really do a nice job on everything, actually because of your videos, im going to buy a couple of VW Bugs! i have a resquest, maybe a lot of owners are interested cause i search on the internet and there is not a lot of information! a video tutorial and how to install a Oil Pressure gauge and a Oil Temp gauge!!! and sorry for my bad english!
I have a brand new engine I run the engine for about 2 hours in the vw of course I stop to check it out and I see oil all over is that normal or something went wrong. I asked you because I call this guy and he said that’s normal for the brand new engine in breaking time pls let me know thank you 🙏
very good video Christ thanks for share your information very helpful, question I got the new ignition coil can you told me how to do the wiring connection I am updating a kit with electronic ignition but I Can't figure the wiring connection for this system thanks from the ignition coil to distribuitor to the switch, also in back of the carburator there is terminal conection wich I dont know where have to be conect to thanks
Another great video! One question though.... for a carb with electric choke, could not hooking up the choke cause challenges in setting the timing or tuning the carb? Or do you just wait until the engine is in the car to do those things?
Hey good video, but that's a lot of work just to bench start and run your engine. You can avoid the whole bell housing thing by just taking a big 1/2" or 3/4" electric drill with socket to fit the crankshaft end pulley nut. Plug her on and pull the trigger. No need for a starter. I do it his way all the time. Great work on the video. Clear and concise.
Yes that would be so much more convenient! Could you possibly give me an example of a drill that does the job for you? Just to make sure I get the right one that has the power to crank it over.
Hi Chris, I've just done a body off resto on my 55 and have attached my transmission and engine to the pan / rolling chassis. Where does the braided battery earth strap fasten to?. I've still got the body off.
Realistically couldn’t you use any starter as long as you fab a good bracket and secure it to the block? I have a couple starters laying around that I’d plan on using for this. Now this is assuming the teeth line up with the flywheel…
Hi Chris, Thanks for ALL your videos. Quite an inspiration. I started watching them and then got myself a 70 Bus. Restoring it...never done something like this before. Question: Can you time the distributor using the method you described in your other video, while your engine is set up outside the car like this? Also, the spark is running directly from the battery here? Gen not hooked up to charge the battery, right?
hi Chris,i did buy a beetle 69 few years ago was working good ,for some reason decided to get it rebuild from professional.car ran for two weeks and suddenly froze.talked to many people .got many answers and way to fix.last thing i did was took all the spark plugs and crank it motor spin well but just as i put all spark plug motor wont crank or even move a bit so tried unplugging spark plug ,motor spin and just as i put the plug back motor stops.any suggestions please.
Hi i have a quick question Chris,I have a 68 vw bug with a 1200cc motor,Well that's what i think it is because of the engine case code starts with D0.I'm confused on knowing what the real size of my motor is because it's a dual port and i recently put on 34 icts dual carbs. Thanks for your time hope to hear from you.
Chris, love your videos! Question...what's the best way to turn off the motor once the initial 30-minute run is finished? Also, good info on the 2 types of starter bushings. Is there a bushing of you're putting a 12-volt starter on a 12-volt housing? Thanks.
Yes bushings for all types, 12v to 12v, 12v to 6v, or even 6v to 12v bushings need to be used depending on your setup. A 30 min run should be in the car, motor should be pushed under load for that run. But if you are on the bench, you just disconnect the coil wire.
hey chris 1776 with stock 72 bug and stock transmission. it is installed in the bug It seems to have good spark bluish color. now this is rebuild i bought. but i cant get it started gas in the carb. when i turn the key and and pedal to the floor it turns well but just makes a couple loud popping noises. i dont know what wrong?
Hi Chris I found a motor with the numbers 211.101.102E and as41 I would like to know in which model vw it comes I do not have the carburettor I have double port what would be number of parts I am not too expert

chris-i'm considering purchasing a 76 vw bug with fuel injection.. Is the fuel inject engine any better than a carburetor engine? Any tips you can give me about the fuel injection engine would greatly be appreciated. Thanks

hey chris, i have noticed the older vw engines like the one you have there possess a whistling sound when they run,
what causes this?
Well all depends what kind of muffler you have, the baffles inside, etc. Or it could be your fan belt making noise, or the fan in the back can be rubbing. These are areas that need fixing. But for the most part, beetles always have that so called "tweety" bird sound when they run.
