- This Airbnb is a relatively new build near the Playa Chiquita area of Sosua. It's a nice spot but we ended up taking a loss. Check out the video for the review and the story.

Villa in the slums says money to the locals they need some barb wire on the perimeter I’ve seen that listing on Airbnb when I saw it sitting basically in a Slum with no security or stout barriers I crossed that one out these people can be like Spider-Man if they think there are valuables inside I’m surprised even second story balconies have bars in DR they need them here leave expensive valuables at home !
THIS IS WHY I ONLY STAY IN CASA LINDA WHEN I GO TO SOSUA. A GATED COMMUNITY WHERE THE SECURITY GUARDS WALK AROUND WITH SEMI AUTOMATIC AND MACHINE GUNS, AND ALL VISITORS GOTTA SHOW ID'S TO ENTER
I like Casa Linda but we always get noise complaints when we stay there. We always end up next to some old folks I guess.
Sounds like the whole island ain’t safe of police have to walk around with semi automatic weapons and shotguns 😂 smh

@@MajorLyfestyle the thing about Casa Linda is the majority of the people staying there are damn near full time residents and not just villa owners who rent the villas out, so Casa Linda has clamped down hard anyone who brings the party attention to the subdivision. You basically have to just any kind of music down by 8-9 o’clock and they limit the chicas also so there are better choices to stay at.

The scariest thing is the boldness of the kid... knowing you were there and still invaded the house... I bet it wasn't his 1st time robbing that spot, he knew it too well.
That's what I kept saying. I'm guessing he figured that since we were there, the upstairs sliding door might be unlocked. He probably tried when we were gone but everything was locked up. I was shocked by that amount of boldness though.

The reason I ask is I live near there and I’m pretty sure there is some Haitians that live close by…. One time my house got robbed and the kids who did it brought a back pack I ended up finding all my shit on my property in a back pack is was some odd shit then one time my wife made me call the police after she swore up and down she saw somebody I searched the whole property and found no one so did the cops we I thought she was just buggin
@@juliov6166 My friend said he looked either Dominican or white. We did see some kids playing in the area but he didn't get a good enough look at his face to point the kid out.
Whats even more scary is that We keep finding crates of brand new guns and ammo in alleys in poor community's in the States.

Glad you guys are safe! I would never say in a place like that. As you move around the Dominican Republic, you see apartments and houses with bars and gates on every level; that for a reason.

I guess I got comfortable because I been staying in spots with no security in many different countries and never had a problem.

@@steven544 I'm an international traveler that isn't scared of my own shadow. You're spreading false ideas that these countries are significantly more dangerous than the hoods we grew up in. Not true. I've stayed in Motel 6s that were worse than most anything in Sosua.
This is why I always stay on the strip or near.
I almost got gotten twice trying to save money and walk alone down those dark streets at night
I'm gonna stick to what I know from now on.
Grand Laguna is my go to spot not to far from the shenanigans and not to close right by pica flora. Glad he caught it before the worse happened.
I been hearing about Grand Laguna. I know the area but I never ended up staying there. Gonna check it out for next time.

Been 2 DR many times - u gotta b n a gated community with security. I like Sosua Ocean Village = no problems.
I like your videos, always authentic. You guys are on a serious adventure. I been going Sosua for over ten (10) years and I only stay at Casa Linda and Ocean Village, even though I don't like Casa Linda wrist bands. Safety, luxury and peace of mind is at it's best. Ocean Village is much better than Casa linda
I recommend staying in Sosua Ocean Village, it's much much better than Casa Linda. It's an ocean front and gated community. Been to Sosua many times and never had any problems in Ocean Village.
I stayed in Ocean Village a few times. Had a complaining neighbor once but we still had a great time. That is definitely a go to spot.

Nice spot....but after you showed me the surroundings, it's a def NO!!! You couldn't pay me to stay in a nice place with nobody else around except 3rd World families that are just trying to eat. No thank you. Glad yall gotta out of there safe tho.

@@MajorLyfestyle ....Live and learn. As long as you're both safe, that's all that matters. That kid could have easily had a gun and panicked when he seen your friend and God forbid killed him or both of you. Just stay in the more populated areas...safety is the #1 concern when you vacation over there. Hotels are probably your best bet for safety in my opinion. Europa Hotel has good security as does Sosua Inn or Casa Valeria if you want a little more luxury. Stay safe out there. ✌

Sorry this happened to you. Personally, I wouldn't have liked to be isolated from others in that villa. I've heard too many horror stories about the DR and it is now off my list.
I will still go back to the DR. I'm not going to let this one incident ruin all the great times I've had there.

Passport and emergency credit card get stashed AS SOON AS I ENTER THE VILLA!! I have hidden my passport under the fridge, Under the BIG TV thats too heavy to lift and run with, You gotta get crafty b/c once its gone ITS GONE!!!
Good tip! Gotta protect the passport at all costs.
That's the only way I stash. I put the passport and cash away. Only leave 10 bucks out just incase I get robbed
@@moneymakingmitch Always leave some Bait cash out , easy to find, like a Drawer and make it look like that is your place where u keep the cash .. a Big Wad of Pesos , and maybe $100- 200 USD , that is more than enough for the thief to think he got your stuff.. I would say $10 is not going to cut it .
Hide the rest and the Passport in a place where it would take some time to find it, and you are good .
In my situation, I don't think he would have stopped at his cash. He already filled his pockets and moved on to trying to take my boy's entire suitcase. If they believe they have the time to clean you out, they will take as much as they can carry.
@@jefffromjersey52 10 wil cut it cause I got fake money underneath the real money. They not looking to see if it real they trying to steal and go. That's unlikely to happen tho because the places I stay is controlled access and I don't invite women I don't know over to see me.

Good decision. There is no need to put yourself at risk when there are better options in Sosua.
Like you said the remote location definitely was a factor, stick to the gated communities. You should of stayed at my listing in Hispaniola, 4 bed/4.5 bath private pool, and your favorite…. Security 😂 We used to rent them we bought and now rent it out, and we tried to make everything perfect because we know all the stuff that used to get on our nerves as guests. I stayed there I'm February. The owner and his wife did us dirty. They didn't fill the water tank and we ran out of water in the entire place after 1 day there . The alarm went off in the middle of the night as soon as we walked in with guest and would not turn off. Found out later the owner was watching from there place and was mad we came with guest and remotely set the alarm off. It's a ok place but needs improvements.
Wow! I figured they were probably watching but I didn't know they could set off alarms. They definitely need to work on a few things. When the rest of that area gets built up, it won't be such a bad location to stay.
i dont care were you go to travel never stay in a place were their is no security its just not wort it
we manage the other apartment, the first one, for 2 years already, to alleviate any safety concerns for quest along with our alarm system we have installed safety bars in all windows and doors. No one can gain access any longer and we've had no further issues.
I'm glad you've made improvements to keep your people safe. I think that area will soon be a sought-after location in Sosua.

I have a travel safe that I didn't bring with me on that trip also. I'll never forget it again
*That place is dope, it's for the private traveler for sure, but personally I need a hotel right on the strip. I need to be near a store at all times, and next to the action. After a drunk night, all I got to do is walk down the street. lol
We definitely like the privacy when we travel so we always do villas and there aren't any near the main strip. Sometimes things get a little crazy by the pool that we don't need everybody seeing lol

I hope you called AIRBNB and let them know what happened. It is also a good idea to leave a review about the place as well.
I left a review and said what happened but I didn't contact Airbnb. I doubt they would do anything.

Nah bro ! You gotta let them know wht went down. If you don't report it, then it never happened ! Mention the missing tv's and shower drainage issue. U guys should've had security on the premises, especially due to the isolation .
Rule number one only stay in gated guarded communities, garden condo and infinity blu should be your choice next time. This place is too isolated, but this situation doesn't deter me I'm going this Saturday with both eyes open as always. Thanks for sharing your story. it reminds me what not to do.
I tried out a new spot, and it didn't work out. It didn't deter me either. I've been back there 3 times since that happened.
I've stayed at a couple of Airbnb's in Sosua and Pop with no issues but there is always the chance for something to go wrong, be it security related or guests getting out of hand by either stealing, getting injured or tearing s@@t up. That's a nice spot but too isolated and I am glad you are ok and things didn't turn out worse. Going forward I just stay at a hotel in town to keep things simple, everything I need is nearby and I minimize even avoid any security problems, guests included. The place must also have a safe or I don't stay there. God forbid if you need help if something does pop off, it's not far away. Thank you for sharing this experience brother.
This was the first time in 5 years of going to Sosua that I had and incidents. Just happened to choose a bad location this time. I still had a great time and I'm ready to go right back. I'll just stick to the more secure spots that I'm used to from now on.

@@MajorLyfestyle No sir, if you can afford to be robbed then you got ALL the dough. That potential headache is hella expensive. You’re better off staying at Club Residencial or Bay City Condo. I stayed at Club Residencial for $600/mo for about a year and a half. The last thing you want is to leave the matrix to go to the DR and be stressed while you lay your head. Definitely don’t overpay but man, don’t have these jokers running all through your stuff. But more power to you. Keep traveling, keep exploring, and enjoy the journey!

I've been to the Su countless amounts of times over the years and stayed in various locations and never came close to anything like this happening. I'll just take this lesson and do better next time.

i never stay in those villas only small gated commmunities. a giant new modern house in the middle of the hood while people live in rundown shacks is not a good idea somebody is going to try to steal from you all the time i like to blend in

How did you go about learning Spanish and about how long did it take you to get to a conversational level?
@@Jmb90 i watched videos on youtube compiled with different phrases in spanish . theres videos people created with 100 phrases after you master that go study the 500 phrase video then 1000 phrase video also get a dominican dictionary or a book that teaches you dominican slang they have one an amazon kindle. and the more hours you put in the faster you will retain the language i put in 3 hours a day of studying alot of people wont do that some people have put in 8 hours a day and accomplished a new language in 60 days

I definitely put that in the Airbnb review. The owners are currently threatening me because I put this information out. They have no interest in trying to make their property safer.

That is why I believe on enforcing immigration laws in DR. Everybody who is there illegally must go. That would reduce crime a lot. Colombia is a better option for you guys.

What did the owners have to say about it and what was the deal with the security cameras? Also, i'm guessing there was no safe in any of the rooms?
They asked if we wanted to get the police involved but we didn't think that would accomplish anything. All the cameras are at ground level and didn't catch anything on that ledge. They didn't have any safes and I blame myself for not asking because I usually do. I would have brought my travel safe if I knew they didn't have any.

Got to remember, they steal everywhere, especially in certain countries, that’s why you see most of the cribs down there, with bars and walls everywhere. But good thing it was just a kid and not older kids with guns and knives. Stay safe , that’s why I only stay in Casa Linda when I’m there, little costly, but I can say it’s secure!

But you dont know what you missed if you weren't there at that time. Before, the girls would put more time into their job with the guys. Nowadays, they ask for more money and want to spend less time and move on to the next customer. Building a vibe is def a plus if you can do it.
