Delightful performance Oscar. I liked your tempo. In my opinion some players rush it and lose its grandeur. Used to love playing this pre-arthritis! The Tuba is wonderful; as is the other solo reed on this organ.
A wonderful recording, Oscar - the organ sounds fabulous (especially that beautiful tuba!). Once again, your videography is excellent, adding greatly to the visual enjoyment for the watcher as well as the aural pleasure for the listener. For my taste, this is the PERFECT tempo. I have heard 'Tuba Tune' taken at a quicker pace, which I think can make it sound a little rushed . . . but in this recording you match the generous acoustic of the cathedral with a performance that delivers all the thrills of this much loved gem by C S Lang. Bravo! (I bet your 'Trumpet Tune' would sound glorious on this instrument, too . . . as would a certain other 'Trumpet Tune' known to me!)
Thank you Graham. It is truly one of the finest organs to be found in Australia and perhaps one day I shall record your trumpet tune on this very instrument :)
@@james.flores Of course, it's the performer's prerogative to 'murder' any piece of music, if so motivated. The score is marked 'Allegro con brio' with a dotted crotchet = 126 for metronome guidance. Every organ and every building housing that organ will significantly influence appropriate tempos for any music played. I have heard your excellent recording, James, from April 2020 playing this piece with great panache on the Hereford sample set . . . and it works wonderfully. I await with (amused) anticipation a recording at 'prestissimo'. Rather like the infamous Toccata from Symphony 5 by Widor, what ever tempo you take it at, organists will undoubtedly always find fault and be more than happy to voice their criticisms. But you're man enough to take it!
Pointless, stupid mask = thumbs down, despite the glory of the organ. I know that console: I've played a concert on that organ myself. The area is entirely boxed in and self-contained. Nobody nearby. Why on earth is that boy wearing that stupid thing for this video? SO infuriating! What message does he think he is sending?
Hi Doctorfoster. When this video was made, it was required by law to wear a mask *all the time* when inside any place other than your own home. If I was not wearing a mask, I would have been denied access to the building. Regardless of your or my thoughts on wearing masks, do you not think it's perhaps a bit unfair to dislike the video purely for that reason? I'm saddened to hear you feel that way - I did not intend to send any message by wearing a mask, I simply followed the rules which were in place at the time.
Take the poker out you’re arse. This is someone either keen to protect themselves and or following cathedral rules. It’s not affecting your ears so apologise and grow up.

Bravo Oscar! Fantastic video, great playing, and what a wonderful organ! That tuba is perfect - so round and beautiful!!

Great, Oscar! Another gem I’ve yet to get my hands on.
Just curious. Is this organ tuned slightly sharp from A=440?
