I just downloaded seen seen that for Red Alert online. The layout came up for the online game I don't even know how to operate this layout or even join a game or start a game.
In the game launcher you have to click on "Play Online", then log in with a nickname. Now you should see the game rooms on the left side, just double click to join. You can create a new game on your own if you just follow all the green buttons.
you need to create a group first (Ctrl+1) and afterwards use the formation hotkey. The key is by default in the original game "f" and in our version "c"

You only have to hold Q while clicking on the empty space on the ground that you want your unit to move to. You do not have to hold Q while clicking on the unit to attack. You can hold q while you click on the enemy unit to attack but it doesn’t make a difference. Most top players only hold q while clicking on the empty ground though some hold it while clicking auto attack as well.
How do you add new units to a team? Say I have a squad of Tanks and want to integrate other units in to that tank team. I find myself having to amass everybody together to re-do the team.
It doesn’t let you skip damage. It makes your tank move while firing. When tanks shoot there is a delay between when the tank targets the square and when the ammo hits the square. If your tank is being shot at, the when the enemy tank prepares to fire, it selects as a target square the square that your tank is currently on. It then swivels it’s guns in that direction and releases the shell, then the shell flies across the map. It takes a fraction of a second for all of this to happen, and if your tank is moving then the enemy tank will probably end up firing at the square that your tank was on a half second ago and your tank will either be missed completely or only take splatter damage from being 1 square over which isn’t as bad as a direct hit. It is hard to keep your tanks constantly in motion when Q fighting, and so there are still definitely many direct hits, but the advantage is significant. The AI Ian programmed to be smart enough to do this itself unfortunately.
I never played online, but I went through the campaigns on hard and can do the add to group command pretty fast. They call the "add to group" command shifting; I too found using the thumb very helpful. If you practise it, and get good, it will help you if you ever play any of the other CnC titles eg Tiberium Wars.
@@Busher50 It's tricky at first but if you get fast with it, you become very efficient building tanks, which is what really matters for fast victories. It is useful to set a command for your home base and secondly for your current location. That way you can build tanks whilst your attacking the enemy, then return to your home base, shift the tanks into your group, then return to your last attacking position. This means you can replenish your loses quickly.
@@PiperTMTotalWar yeah man, that's the difficult part. I can do the ctrl and shift pretty quick but just having trouble moving my hand back to W,E,R for the bookmarks
@@Busher50 I guess the more you play and practise the more natural it will become. Maybes you can tweek the controls so it's more comfortable, i'm sure you will succeed:D
It works out of the box, no port forwarding or any settings. If you can't connect then it's probably your anti-virus/firewall blocking the client. Make sure you allow "cncnet5.exe" and "ra95-spawn.exe"

I just downloaded the classic version of command and conquer red alert... but I can't figure out how to do the most basic tasks of selecting soldiers or tanks and moving them or attacking the enemy. What are the buttons or hot keys for the mac? Please help

How did you get so zoomed out? in c&c remastered it doesn't zoom out to even half that far.

When you use the Q button, do you need to hold the button whilst you click attack on the enemy unit? Or you only have to hold the Q button afterwards?
You have to attack, then press and hold Q and click somewhere you would like the tanks to drive.
